2011

This article proposes a reflection about Italian art exhibitions on Middle Ages all over the twentieth century in order to understand the reception of medieval history in Italy. The Italian case is compared with the other European countries and their own relationships with Middle Ages. The articles studies also the important changes in the cultural offer and in the museum function during the last decade of the twentieth century and analyses their major consequences on the exhibitions. Lastly the ‘status’ of the exhibited objects and their mise-en-scene are examined.

2021

Humans possess an innate ability to interpret scenes under any condition. Computer Vision tends to mimic these capabilities by implementing intelligent algorithms to address complex understanding problems. In this regard, we are interested in understanding outdoor urban scenes in various weather conditions. This thesis specifically addresses the problems arising from the presence of specularity in the scenes. To this end, we aim to take advantage of polarization indices to define such surfaces in addition to traditional objects. In terms of understanding, we aim to introduce polarization to the fields of computer vision and deep learning. This thesis focuses on the following underlying challeng…

Motion Analysis for Dynamic 3D Scene Reconstruction and Understanding

2017

This thesis studies the problem of dynamic scene 3D reconstruction and understanding using a calibrated 2D-3D camera setup mounted on a mobile platform via the analysis of objects' motions. For static scenes, the sought 3D map reconstruction can be obtained by registering the point cloud sequence. However, with dynamic scenes, we require a prior step of moving object elimination, which yields to the motion detection and segmentation problems. We provide solutions for the two practical scenarios, namely the known and unknown camera motion cases, respectively. When camera motion is unknown, our 3D-SSC and 3D-SMR algorithms segment the moving objects by analysing their 3D feature trajectories.…

2009

During the last decades of the Eighteenth Century, various Italian theatrical centres were reached by the fascination of Rousseau's "Pygmalion". Some authors considered with great interest the new proposal and tried to create original works based on the same combination of spoken text, gestures and musical comment. The article lists many "scene liriche" imitating "Pygmalion" and focuses in particular on Alessandro Pepoli's "Pandora". This venetian product, thanks to the availability of the complete score, allows a discussion on the features and problems that characterize the Italian reception of the French model.
