Modular approach to obtaining organic glasses from low-molecular weight dyes using 1,1,1-triphenylpentane auxiliary groups: Nonlinear optical propert…

2013

Abstract A new modular synthetic approach to obtain organic glasses from low-molecular weight azobenzenes and stilbenes has been accomplished using 1,1,1-triphenylpentane crystallization preventing auxiliary groups. Six new structures show excellent solubility in non-polar solvents and thin films with good optical qualities have been obtained using a spin-coating technique. The glass transition temperatures of the new amorphous materials were in the range of 73–108 °C. The nonlinear optical activity in thin amorphous films was measured after a corona poling procedure.

Optimized blue light generation in optically contacted walk-off compensated RbTiOAsO4 and KTiOP1−yAsyO4

1999

Abstract We study type II 1.32 μm second harmonic generation (SHG) in a RbTiOAsO 4 optically contacted walk-off compensated device. The reduction of the effective walk-off angle by a factor of 3.7 with respect to KTiOPO 4 for the same interaction leads to an enhancement by a factor of 10 of the conversion efficiency. A model is proposed for both type I and type II SHG in such a structure. The angular tuning curve is a multi-peaked one, as predicted by the model. The enhancement of the SHG conversion efficiency allows us to optimize the generation of blue laser light at 440 nm: a specially designed KTiOP 0.98 As 0.02 O 4 solid solution crystal achieves angular non-critical phase matching at …

Second harmonic generation in coupled LiNbO3 waveguides by reverse-proton exchange

2003

We demonstrate second harmonic generation of a near-infrared pump in a nonlinearly coupled system formed by longitudinally uniform proton- and reverse-proton-exchanged LiNbO/sub 3/ planar waveguides. Phase- and mode-matched transverse electric (TE/sub 0/) frequency doubling into transverse magnetic higher order guided modes is achieved through temperature control, in agreement with the model.

Second-harmonic generation in Langmuir–Blodgett monolayers of stilbazium salt and phenylhydrazone dyes

1988

The second-order nonlinear optical susceptibilities χ(2) of several phenylhydrazone and stilbazium salt dyes in Langmuir–Blodgett monolayers have been determined from second-harmonic-generation measurements. Three of the substances demonstrated χ(2) values greater than 10−6 electrostatic units, although two of the three did not absorb light significantly at the second-harmonic wavelength.

Scanning near-field optical microscopy (SNOM) of lithium niobate aperiodically poled during growth

2007

In the present work, aperiodically poled lithium niobate (APPLN) was grown, along the a-axis, by the off-centred Czochraski method. The domain formation has been triggered by rare earth doping, using in this case Er3+ and Yb3+ ions. The growth conditions were selected in order to obtain a modulated domain distribution. SNOM measurements have been performed with a Nanonics Imaging Ltd model MultiView 200 TM working in non-contact tapping mode.

Thermal expansion, normalized thermo-optic coefficients, and condition for second harmonic generation of a Nd:YAG laser with wide temperature bandwid…

2011

Interferometric determination of thermal expansion and of normalized thermo-optic coefficients of RbTiOPO4 at four laser wavelengths are performed as a function of temperature. A suitable vectorial formalism applied to obtained data allows the establishment of the temperature dependence of refractive indices, and subsequent theoretical analysis enables one to predict that an extremum in the evolution of the phase-matching direction in the (X,Y) plane should occur near 100 °C for type II second harmonic generation of Nd:YAG lasers, with a temperature bandwidth that can be as large as 117 °C for a crystal of 10 mm in length. Such unusual behavior is observed experimentally by recording the co…

Continuous-wave, double-pass second-harmonic generation with 60% efficiency in a single MgO:PPSLT crystal

2014

We present a double-pass scheme for high-efficiency, high-power, second-harmonic generation (SHG) in a single MgO-doped periodically poled stoichiometric lithium tantalate (MgO:PPSLT) crystal. The device is pumped by a single-frequency, continuous-wave fiber amplifier laser system at a wavelength of 1091 nm. For the double-pass scheme, a conversion efficiency of 60% and a harmonic power of 12.8 W at a wavelength of 545.5 nm with a high beam quality of (M2<1.2) is achieved. Compared to single-pass SHG, a double-pass enhancement factor of more than two is observed at the highest fundamental pump power.

Synthesis and nonlinear optical properties of novel N,N-dihydroxyethyl-based molecular organic glasses using triaryl substitutes as amorphous phase f…

2011

In given study a new structural design of molecular NLO materials is presented where amorphous phase formation is achieved by introduction of bulky trityl and triphenylsilyl substituents. Obtained materials formed stable organic glasses with good optical quality and glass transition temperatures notably exceeding ambient. NLO activity was successfully measured in samples that underwent corona discharge poling. The comparison of both enhancer groups revealed, that trityl group increases thermal sustainability of material, while triphenylsilyl group better promotes formation and stability of amorphous phase.

Multimodal nonlinear imaging of suspended carbon nanotubes using circular polarizations

2013

In this work, multimodal nonlinear microscopy of suspended CNTs using circular polarizations (CP) was reported. Significant variations in the SHG and THG signals of the CNTs between left hand circular polarization (LHCP) and right hand circular polarization (RHCP) were observed. The variations in the nonlinear signals can be associated to the unique properties of the CNTs such as chirality.
