Nonlinear Disorder Mapping Through Three-Wave Mixing

We implement a simple and powerful approach to characterize the domain distribution in the bulk of quadratic ferroelectric crystals via far-field second-harmonic spectroscopy. The approach is demonstrated in a lithium tantalate sample with periodic electric field poling and random mark-to-space ratio.

This qualitative study examines the professional agency of secondary English teachers in Midwestern South Korea. Specifically, it investigates how secondary English teachers in South Korea understand their professional agency and what mediates their professional agency. Finnish Secondary Students’ Mental Models of Magnetism

We examined Finnish lower secondary students’ mental models of magnetism through their drawings, written explanations and interviews. Secondary students in Finland (N=12) engaged in six lessons designed specifically to target three key concepts in understanding magnetism: structure and organization (magnetic domains), magnetic fields and magnetic interactions. We describe how, with a finite number of key concepts introduced, students reflected upon and revised their mental models of magnetism and magnetic interactions towards more sophisticated and normative scientific views. From behavioral sciences to biology to quantum mechanics, one encounters situations where (i) a system outputs several random variables in response to several inputs, (ii) for each of these responses only some of the inputs may "directly" influence them, but (iii) other inputs provide a "context" for this response by influencing its probabilistic relations to other responses. Resumen En este trabajo se hace una primera aproximación a la ansiedad de los estudiantes de secundaria ante las ciencias. Se han aplicado a 175 estudiantes de educación secundaria de diferentes cursos dos cuestionarios validados y una prueba de evaluación de competencias científicas. Un cuestionario mide la ansiedad ante diversos contextos científicos y el otro evalúa la ansiedad generada por una prueba de evaluación de ciencias.
