The aim of the study reported here was to develop psychotherapeutic in-patient treatment for acute schizophrenia, following the principles of a need-adapted approach. To improve the integration of experiences which hospital staff have with acutely psychotic patients and their families, systematic supervision sessions were organised. In these sessions, it was possible to achieve shared psychological images through which the whole staff could integrate patients' behaviour and symptoms, both symbolic and non-symbolic. Animals are not the object of zoosemiotics as discussed here, neither is their language nor any other system of signs that affects them directly as living creatures that communicate, but the forms of animality, forms through which the concept of animal itself is socially constructed and transformed over time. Now, if there is one place in which such forms are plain to see, it is in those areas that focus on their nutrition. Looking at feeding animals as a semiotic activity, this paper wants to focus on what I call a nutritional pact, an implicit agreement that binds humans and animals, and that is being continuously negotiated by cultures. These formats are increasingly linked to the relaunch offered by Instagram pages, to the apps that manage reservations, to the reviews sites. Linking themselves to the possibilities offered by the web, restaurants have transformed their relationship with the city, the practices of food consumption and the rituals of everyday life. Reading the city sub specie gastronomica means observing the multiple relationships that the language of food and that of space entertain each other. What is highlighted in thie volume is the social value that founds, by merging them, the links between food and cities in the different branches that the authors propose to us. We therefore speak of restaurants and markets, kitchens and dining rooms, supermarkets and taverns, street food and fast food, food and wine tourism and domestic imprisonments.

Reading the city from a gastronomical point of view means observing the multiple relationships that the language of food and the language of space have with each other. It means selecting and making relevant some areas of the urban text and some parts of food discourse, electing them as representative segments of wider social dynamics. This essay propose an analysis of the docu-series dedicated to the notorious Newyorker writer Fran Lebowitz, Pretend It’s a City, directed by Martin Scorsese and aired by Netflix in 2021. The issues raised by the documentary are discussed with reference to the cinematic culture as well as to the contributions of some of the founding authors of the intellctual debate on gentrification and the city of New York.
