Provini. Sull'enunciazione fotografica
2020
Before the shutter release subtracts a certain fragment of existence from its continuous becoming, producing that "that-has-been" that Barthes recognized as the very essence of photographic art, the world is in front of the photographer with all its complexity: the infinite things that populate it, the infinite points of view from which it is possible to look at them, the infinite moments that mark their existence. In front of the man with the camera, an infinite number of photographs unfolds, many of which, unfortunately, completely incapable of provoking that jolt you get when an image is really good. How is it possible to describe and analyze photographic production? To think about it, t…
Politiche del reale. Sulla testimonianza fotografica
2021
Not only, as Barthes has shown, are photographs photographs are complex objects, endowed with a high degree of depth and of depth and considerable semantic possibilities but, as Floch has Floch argued, the testimonial one is only one effect of meaning among the many that they can produce. From this derives a twofold necessity. The first has to do with the caution that must characterize the approach to images. approach to images. A photograph is not a fact, it means it, and like every process of signification it presupposes a point of view a point of view, and therefore an ideology, which is revealed only when it becomes possible to only when it becomes possible to reconstruct what is missin…
Introduzione: di sardine e d’altri linguaggi politici
2019
At the market in via Drapperie, in Bologna, in mid-November 2019, sardines were sold for three euros a kilo. In more than one fish shop, the price was the same as always, no significant variation. Yet nearby, in the immense Piazza Maggiore, in those very days sixteen thousand and more sardines were playing the leading role, tight squeezes, not only producing an unexpected result against the aggressiveness of the right, the league and populist sovereignty, but inventing a new form of political expression: an ironic flash mob in the name of a world figure – the Sardinian, in fact – not particularly heroic or in any way handsome. A figure who – based on the well-known media mechanism of "conta…
Eco e la serialità. Appunti di lettura a mo' di introduzione
2020
Apple, Ibm and Microsoft in a war of signs
2007
The aim of my paper is exploring how image contributes on building the brand identity of specific organisations and how the meaning of the image can be resignified by the action of the players in a specific market. In particular, I will focus on the competition between three brands, Ibm, Apple, Microsoft. on the information technology market. My work is looking forward to be a continuation of the essay “Le vie du Logo” published in “Identités visuelles” by Jean Marie Floch about the visual competition between Apple and Ibm. I will use the tools of sociosemiotics, plastic and figurative analysis, screening more than 20 years of competition starting from 1984, the year in which the analysis o…
Mitologie dello street food (a partire da alcune pietanze siciliane).
2021
The article investigates the gastronomic universe of street food through two steps. The first is theoretical and highlights what are the founding semantic categories of street food with respect to other culinary worlds (home cooking, fast food, etc.) and, through this specifically relational point of view, also explains the transformations and inversions between systems of values that are in principle opposite. The idea is to conceive of street food not as some entity given from the outset but, on the contrary, as an effect od meaning of the social, media, gastronomic discourses that are made of it. The second passage is more empirical and is dedicated to Palermo's street food: chosen as a …
Introduction to the semiotics of the text
2021
This books aims to demonstrate how semiotic models of textual analysis can be used to study any social reality or cultural process. In addition, it shows how semiotic models work by using examples from everyday life and social praxis, communicative processes and modes of consumption, online interactions and cross-media procedures, political experiences and scientific universes.
Raccontare lo street food in viaggio: critica del giudizio turistico
2022
This paper is about tourist reviews of a specific gastronomic universe: street food. Specifically, I will deal with reviews from the Tripadvisor platform dedicated to street food places in the city of Palermo. The idea of focusing on reviews comes from the hypothesis that, since this type of textuality is an utterance at the end of a path, and is therefore the Sanction in narrative terms, we can reconstruct from reviews, by presupposition, the value systems that the enunciator-tourist projects on the gastronomic experience. That is, if there is a judgment it is because there is a preceding Contract, more or less explicit, very often implicit, that is grounded in a set of values that constit…
Ambienti digitali ed extended reality: alcune questioni semiotiche a partire da esempi di branding e retailing.
2021
This article raises some semiotic questions about extendend reality that involves the wide range of digital technologies including VR (virtual reality), AR (augmented reality) and MR (mixed reality), drawing on some cases from the world of organised retail and branding. We are talking about a set of technologies that, since the beginning of their creation and today in the fields in which they are most used, have brought to the surface, because they have questioned them, a series of theoretical problems of great interest for semiotics, such as corporeality and perception, the situation of fruition and the change of point of view, but also the narrative dimension produced - or not produced - …
Dimmi che sigla guardi e ti dirò chi sei
2020
Opening credits, sequences which accompany each episode of a television series, have radically changed over time. From being brief and marginal texts, edited with low care e watched with a low level of attention, they have become artistic and elegant sequences, often created by specialized companies to keep the viewer’s eyes glued to the screen. The opening credits still keep their original function – giving information about the programme – but nowadays they achieve their goal in various ways. The main titles refer to the content of the series using different tones, thereby setting a particular mood that prepares the viewer for the show. In this article, we will try to focus on these diffe…
