Molecular characterization of Treponema pallidum subsp. pallidum in Switzerland and France with a new multilocus sequence typing scheme

2018

Syphilis is an important public health problem and an increasing incidence has been noted in recent years. Characterization of strain diversity through molecular data plays a critical role in the epidemiological understanding of this re-emergence. We here propose a new high-resolution multilocus sequence typing (MLST) scheme for Treponema pallidum subsp. pallidum (TPA). We analyzed 30 complete and draft TPA genomes obtained directly from clinical samples or from rabbit propagated strains to identify suitable typing loci and tested the new scheme on 120 clinical samples collected in Switzerland and France. Our analyses yielded three loci with high discriminatory power: TP0136, TP0548, and TP…

Stereochemical features of the hydrolysis of 9,10-epoxystearic acid catalysed by plant and mammalian epoxide hydrolases

2002

cis-9,10-Epoxystearic acid was used as a tool to probe the active sites of epoxide hydrolases (EHs) of mammalian and plant origin. We have compared the stereochemical features of the hydrolysis of this substrate catalysed by soluble and membrane-bound rat liver EHs, by soluble EH (purified to apparent homogeneity) obtained from maize seedlings or celeriac roots, and by recombinant soybean EH expressed in yeast. Plant EHs were found to differ in their enantioselectivity, i.e. their ability to discriminate between the two enantiomers of 9,10-epoxystearic acid. For example, while the maize enzyme hydrated both enantiomers at the same rate, the EH from soybean exhibited very high enantioselecti…

Paternal uniparental disomy chromosome 14-like syndrome due a maternal de novo 160 kb deletion at the 14q32.2 region not encompassing the IG- and the…

2015

The human chromosome 14q32 carries a cluster of imprinted genes which include the paternally expressed genes (PEGs) DLK1 and RTL1, as well as the maternally expressed genes (MEGs) MEG3, RTL1as, and MEG8. PEGs and MEGs expression at the 14q32.2-imprinted region are regulated by two differentially methylated regions (DMRs): the IG-DMR and the MEG3-DMR, which are respectively methylated on the paternal and unmethylated on the maternal chromosome 14 in most cells. Genetic and epigenetic abnormalities affecting these imprinted gene clusters result in two different phenotypes currently known as maternal upd(14) syndrome and paternal upd(14) syndrome. However, only few patients carrying a maternal…

Anaesthesia protocol evaluation of the videolaryngoscopy with the McGrath MAC and direct laryngoscopy for tracheal intubation in 1000 patients underg…

2021

IntroductionRapid sequence induction of anaesthesia is indicated in patients with an increased risk of pulmonary aspiration. The main objective of the technique is to reduce the critical time period between loss of airway protective reflexes and rapid inflation of the cuff of the endotracheal tube to minimise the chance of aspiration of gastric contents. The COVID-19 pandemic has reinforced the importance of first-pass intubation success to ensure patient and healthcare worker safety. The aim of this study is to compare the first-pass intubation success rate (FPS) using the videolaryngoscopy compared with conventional direct laryngoscopy in surgical patients with a high risk of pulmonary as…

The increase in the prevalence of obesity worldwide has led to great interest in the economic consequences of obesity, but valid and powerful instruments for obesity, which are needed to estimate its causal effects, are rare. This paper contributes to the literature by using a novel instrument: genetic risk score, which reflects the predisposition to higher body mass index across many genetic loci. We estimate IV models of the effect of BMI on labor market outcomes using Finnish data that have many strengths: genetic information, measured body mass index, and administrative earnings records that are free of the problems associated with nonresponse, self-reporting error or top-coding. The fi…

Métabolisme sucre-citrate chez Leuconostoc mesenteroides

2001

Sugar citrate cometabolism in Leuconostoc mesenteroides. Bacteria from the genus Leuconostocplay roles in the dairy industry. The most important functions of this bacteria are their ability to produce CO 2 and flavour compounds through lactose heterofermentation and citrate uti- lization. Although the biotechnological role of the citrate metabolism is very important and widely appreciated, little is known about the genetic properties of Leuconostoc spp. In our laboratory, we cloned the genes responsible for citrate metabolism ( clyR mae citCDEFGOPcluster), for D-lactate dehydrogenase (ldhD) and for phosphotransacetylase ( pta). In addition we have planned to con- struct new vectors and we h…

Dynamic Triggering of Mud Volcano Eruptions During the 2016–2017 Central Italy Seismic Sequence

2017

©2017. American Geophysical Union. All Rights Reserved. On 24 August 2016 a seismic event (Mw6.0) was the first of the long Central Italy sequence (ongoing at the end of 2017) of medium-to-high magnitude earthquakes, with nine Mw≥5 up to October 2017, and with about 74.000 seismic events registered after 1 year. The largest was the Mw6.5 30 October 2016 event near Norcia. After the major seismic events, 17 mud volcanoes erupted around Monteleone di Fermo village (Marche region). Mud volcano eruptions generally occurred a few hours to a few days after the main earthquakes, suggesting a seismic triggering. We analyzed the peak ground velocities and dynamic stresses during the three largest ea…

Toward a real-time tracking of dense point-sampled geometry

2012

4 pages; International audience; In this paper, we address the problem of tracking temporal deformations between two arbitrary densely sampled point-based surfaces. We propose an intuitive and efficient resolution to the point matching problem within two frames of a sequence. The proposed method utilizes two distinct space partition trees, one for each point cloud, which both are defined on a unique discrete space. Our method takes advantage of multi-resolution concerns, voxel adjacency relations, and a specific distance function. Experimental results obtained from both simulated and real reconstructed data sets demonstrate that the proposed method can handle efficiently the tracking proces…

Frame-related Sequences in Chains and Scales of Hilbert Spaces

2022

Frames for Hilbert spaces are interesting for mathematicians but also important for applications in, e.g., signal analysis and physics. In both mathematics and physics, it is natural to consider a full scale of spaces, and not only a single one. In this paper, we study how certain frame-related properties of a certain sequence in one of the spaces, such as completeness or the property of being a (semi-) frame, propagate to the other ones in a scale of Hilbert spaces. We link that to the properties of the respective frame-related operators, such as analysis or synthesis. We start with a detailed survey of the theory of Hilbert chains. Using a canonical isomorphism, the properties of frame se…
