Synthesis of a MUC1-glycopeptide-BSA conjugate vaccine bearing the 3'-deoxy-3'-fluoro-Thomsen-Friedenreich antigen.
2011
A novel MUC1-glycopeptide–BSA conjugate vaccine with a specifically fluorinated Thomsen–Friedenreich antigen side chain at Thr6 was prepared. Preliminary immunological experiments reveal specific binding of the tumor-associated glycopeptide antigen analog by anti-MUC1-mouse antibodies.
Eating patterns are associated with biomarkers in a selected population of university students and employees.
2011
AbstractThe association between diet and CVD cannot be assigned to a single nutrient, but rather to a set of nutrients and non-nutrients, and eating pattern analyses have become an important tool in investigation of this relationship. Our objective was to investigate eating patterns in relation to nutrient intake and serum concentration of folate, vitamin B12 and TAG in ninety-five healthy adult participants. Dietary information was collected by an FFQ, and eating patterns were obtained by principal components analyses of thirty-three food groups. Three eating patterns were extracted, a sweet eating pattern identified by intakes of cakes, snacks, sugar-sweetened drinks and chocolates; a pru…
Preservation of the soft protein corona in distinct flow allows identification of weakly bound proteins.
2018
Abstract Nanocarriers that are used for targeted drug delivery come in contact with biological liquids and subsequently proteins will adsorb to the nanocarriers’ surface to form the so called ‘protein corona’. The protein corona defines the biological identity and determines the biological response towards the nanocarriers in the body. To make nanomedicine safe and reliable it is required to get a better insight into this protein corona and, therefore, the adsorbed proteins have to be characterized. Currently, centrifugation is the common method to isolate the protein corona for further investigations. However, with this method it is only possible to investigate the strongly bound proteins,…
The Effect of High Parathyroid Hormone Concentration on Calcitonin in Patients with Primary Hyperparathyroidism2)
2009
Serum calcitonin (CT), parathyroid hormone (PTH), and calcium levels were measured in 23 patients with primary hyperparathyroidism. PTH was determined by a midregion (M-RIA) and a carboxyl-terminal (C-RIA) specific PTH-RIA. Only 2 patients had elevated CT levels. In contrast to the findings in 46 healthy controls, the CT levels did not correlate with calcium levels. Patients who had the highest iPTH values showed a negative correlation between CT and iPTH (M-RIA (n = 7): R = -1.0000, p less than 0.001; C-RIA (n = 13): R = -0.5604, p less than 0.05). The results of the C-RIA were subtracted from those of the M-RIA. In 12 patients with the highest levels of intact PTH (M-RIA - C-RIA), serum P…
Interrelationship between reproductive hormones and acute phase proteins during estrous cycle and pregnancy in Spanish purebred broodmares
2021
Highlights • Steroid hormones and acute phase proteins in cyclic and pregnant mares were evaluated. • SAA and CRP did not discriminate cyclic and pregnant mares. • Pregnancy induced a limited acute phase response in Spanish purebred mares. • SAA, Hp and CRP were independent of E1 and P4 dynamics during pregnancy.
A Novel Long-Term Graves’ Disease Animal Model Confirmed by Functional Thyrotropin Receptor Antibodies
2020
Introduction: A novel long-term murine model for Graves’ disease (GD) using repeated, long-term immunizations with recombinant adenovirus expressing the extracellular A-subunit of the human thyrotropin receptor (Ad-TSHR) was applied to evaluate the functional anti-TSHR-antibody (TSHR-Ab) profile. Methods: BALB/c mice received 7 immunizations with either 1010 plaque-forming units of Ad-TSHR or control Ad-GFP. Naïve (nonimmuized native) mice were also studied. Three 3-weekly immunizations were followed by 4-weekly boosts until the 7th immunization. Blocking (TBAb) and stimulating (TSAb) TSHR-Ab …
Aging and microRNA messaging : associations with systemic estrogen levels and physical performance
2018
This thesis took an innovative approach, which involved methodological development, to investigate microRNAs as candidate molecules and as genome-wide regulators of age, menopausal status and physical condition in both sexes. The focus was on potential serum microRNAs indicative of age, pre- or postmenopausal status, with or without estrogen- based hormone replacement therapy (HRT), and long-term physical training. MicroRNA associations with adiposity and inflammatory markers were also analyzed. Three different study designs were used: 1) the SAWEs study comprised healthy postmenopausal monozygotic twin sisters (n=11, 54-62 years) with discordance for HRT and premenopausal women (n=30, 20-4…
Acute neuromuscular and endocrine responses and recovery to single session combined endurance and strength loadings: ‘Order effect’ in untrained youn…
2013
The purpose of this study was to investigate acute neuromuscular and endocrine responses and recovery to a single session of combined endurance and strength loading using two loading orders. Forty-two men were demographically matched to perform a single session of combined endurance+strength (E+S) or strength+endurance (S+E) loading. The strength loading was conducted on a leg press and included sets of power, maximal strength and hypertrophic loads with an overall duration of 30 minutes. The endurance loading was conducted on a bike ergometer and performed by continuous cycling over 30min at 65% of subject’s individual maximal Watts. Both loading conditions led to significant acute reducti…
External evaluation of population pharmacokinetic models of vancomycin in neonates: the transferability of published models to different clinical set…
2012
AimsVancomycin is one of the most evaluated antibiotics in neonates using modeling and simulation approaches. However no clear consensus on optimal dosing has been achieved. The objective of the present study was to perform an external evaluation of published models, in order to test their predictive performances in an independent dataset and to identify the possible study-related factors influencing the transferability of pharmacokinetic models to different clinical settings.MethodPublished neonatal vancomycin pharmacokinetic models were screened from the literature. The predictive performance of six models was evaluated using an independent dataset (112 concentrations from 78 neonates). T…
Wall mannoproteins in cells from colonial phenotypic variants of Candida albicans.
1990
Candida albicans ATCC 26555 switched at high frequency (10(-1) to 10(-3)) between several phenotypes identified by colony morphology on a defined mineral amino-acid-containing agar medium supplemented with arginine and zinc (LAZ medium). When cells taken from colonies exhibiting distinct morphologies were plated directly onto LAZ agar, spontaneous conversion to all the variant phenotypes occurred at combined frequencies of 2.1 x 10(-1) to 9.5 x 10(-3). However, when cells taken from the different colonial phenotypes were plated directly onto an undefined medium (yeast extract/peptone/dextrose; YPD medium), or first incubated in liquid YPD medium and then cloned on YPD agar, all colonies obs…
