Defining user experience goals to guide the design of industrial systems
2015
The key prerequisite for experience-driven design is to define what experience to design for. User experience (UX) goals concretise the intended experience. Based on our own case studies from industrial environments and a literature study, we propose five different approaches to acquiring insight and inspiration for UX goal setting: Brand, Theory, Empathy, Technology, and Vision. Each approach brings in a different viewpoint, thus supporting the multidisciplinary character of UX. The Brand approach ensures that the UX goals are in line with the company's brand promise. The Theory approach utilises the available scientific knowledge of human behaviour. The Empathy approach focuses on knowing…
Elaborating biodiversity offsetting towards ecological accounting of land use planning
2022
The conditional censored graphical lasso estimator
2020
© 2020, Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature. In many applied fields, such as genomics, different types of data are collected on the same system, and it is not uncommon that some of these datasets are subject to censoring as a result of the measurement technologies used, such as data generated by polymerase chain reactions and flow cytometer. When the overall objective is that of network inference, at possibly different levels of a system, information coming from different sources and/or different steps of the analysis can be integrated into one model with the use of conditional graphical models. In this paper, we develop a doubly penalized inferential procedure for…
Unbeatable Value Low-Price Guarantee: Collusive Mechanism or Advertising Strategy?
2006
This paper investigates the effects of a low-price guarantee (price-beating guarantee) on the patterns of price setting of three supermarkets using micro-level price data. Following recent theoretical developments, the paper analyzes the ability of low-price guarantees to sustain anticompetitive prices. My empirical analysis suggests instead that this low-price guarantee may serve as an advertising device to signal low prices. The supermarket offering the low-price guarantee, aware of its price advantage in a subset of products, uses it to signal low prices to induce consumers to switch supermarkets.
Photoelastic stress analysis assisted evaluation of fracture toughness in hydrothermally aged epoxies
2014
The present work has investigated the fracture toughness of a model DGEBA epoxy system subject to Hidro-Thermal aging. A Photoelastic Stress Analysis technique has been implemented, showing the evolution of stresses arising throughout the water uptake process due to the non-uniform swelling of the material. Gravimetric and Dynamic Mechanical Thermal Analyses have further complemented the characterization, showing the onset of plasticization effects with aging. The correlation of all previous characterizations has allowed to conclude that an increase of KIC fracture toughness is obtained at the fully saturated condition. In particular Photoelasticity has also revealed the onset of relevant s…
Planning and Public Health. Nordkraft Regeneration as a Center of Culture and Health
2021
More than half of the world's population currently lives in cities, and urban health problems have worsened. In cities, there are serious risk factors for health and the spread of diseases, such as COVID-19 whose major epicentres have been in urban settlements. To guarantee public health, urban environments must be remodelled on the basis of new urban planning principles, in a holistic vision with integrated social and health-related aspects. Indeed, public health in urban habitats is not just about increasing life expectancy but also about improving the quality of life itself. Consequently, urban environments must offer not only health services but also social opportunities to individuals,…
