Differentiating explanations of attitude-consistent behavior: The role of perspectives and mode of perspective taking
2005
We examined whether participants could differentiate between explanations of attitude-consistent behavior related to EU membership given from two perspectives (EU supporter and EU opponent) by means of three perspective taking modes (the explainer's own perspective, imagined in-group members' perspective, and imagined out-group members' perspective). Participants were presented with explanations provided from different perspectives and perspective taking modes, and they were asked to judge the extent to which they agreed with each explanation, to guess the attitude of the provider of each explanation, and to rate the quality of each explanation in various respects. Participants could not di…
Patients’ health locus of control and preferences about the role that they want to play in the medical decision-making process
2021
Health locus of control (HLOC) may influence people’s behavior regarding their health as well as their desires to be involved in the medical decision-making. Our study aimed to examine HLOC’s relations with people’s control preferences about the medical decision-making. A total of 153 people filled out the self-administered version of the Control Preference Scale and the Multidimensional Health Locus of Control Scale–form C. The most preferred role is the collaborative one. However, HLOC explained heterogeneity in people’s control preferences: lower scores in external HLOC were related to a greater preference for the active and the collaborative role. From the personalized medicine perspect…
Characteristics and determinants of patient burden and needs in the treatment of chronic spontaneous urticaria
2019
Objectives: Treatment of chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU) is based on evidence-based guidelines. However, specific patient needs and benefits from therapy have not been differentiated on the guideline level. The current study was designed to use the first part of the PBI, the PNQ, to characterize[for full text, please go to the a.m. URL]
Validation of the Spanish version of the 9-item Shared Decision-Making Questionnaire
2014
Objective To translate and assess the psychometric properties of the 9-item Shared Decision-Making Questionnaire (SDM-Q-9) for measuring patients' perceptions of how clinicians' performance fits the SDM process. Design Cross-sectional study. Setting and Participants Data were collected in primary care health centres. Patients suffering from chronic diseases and facing a medical decision were included in the study. Measurements The original German SDM-Q-9 was translated to Spanish using the process of cross-cultural adaptation of self-reported measures as the methodological model for Spanish translation. Reliability (internal consistency) and construct validity [exploratory (EFA) and confirm…
Assessment of shared decision making in pediatrics: Developing German scales for patients aged 7-18 years, parents and parent-proxy reports (CollaboR…
2021
Abstract Objective To develop parsimonious German scales (CollaboRATEpediatric) to assess shared decision making (SDM) with patients aged 7-18 years, parents and parents on behalf of their children (parent-proxy reports), and to establish comprehensibility and preliminary face validity. Methods Based on an existing SDM scale for adults (CollaboRATE) we developed CollaboRATEpediatric in a two-step approach: (1) team-based translation of the English CollaboRATE scale into German and adaptation for pediatric patients, parents and parent-proxy reports, followed by (2) iterative revisions of the CollaboRATEpediatric scales based on cognitive interviews with patients and parents until comprehensi…
OVERCOMING SOCIAL ISOLATION WITH DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES AMONG AGEING POPULATIONS DURING COVID-19
2021
During Covid-19 social isolation has become more common worldwide, however, some groups, especially elderly people, might have experienced dramatically limited communication due to the lack of skills and access to digital technologies. In this paper, we examined if education was associated with the use of digital technologies to maintain contacts with a family, friends, other social networks and services. The survey was conducted in June-August 2020 by doing 1089 computer-assisted telephone interviews. The questions examined how people aged 50 years and older coped with socioeconomic and health-related impact of COVID-19.We used logistic regression analysis to study the association between …
Multimorbidity increases the risk of dementia: a 15 year follow-up of the SHARE study.
2023
Abstract Aims the literature regarding the association between multimorbidity and dementia is still unclear. Therefore, we aimed to explore the potential association between multimorbidity at the baseline and the risk of future dementia in the SHARE (Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe) study, a large European research survey, with a follow-up of 15 years. Methods in this longitudinal study, multimorbidity was defined as the presence of two or more chronic medical conditions, among 14 self-reported at the baseline evaluation. Incident dementia was ascertained using self-reported information. Cox regression analysis, adjusted for potential confounders, was run and hazard ratios…
Bandwidth allocation and pricing in multimode network
2006
This paper presents adaptive resource sharing model that uses a revenue criterion to allocate network resources in an optimal way. The model ensures QoS requirements of data flows and, at the same time, maximizes the total revenue by adjusting parameters of the underlying scheduler. Besides, the adaptive model eliminates the need to find the optimal static weight values because they are calculated dynamically. The simulation consists of several cases that analyse the model and the way it provides the required QoS guarantees. The simulation reveals that the installation of the adaptive model increases the total revenue and ensures the QoS requirements for all service classes.
Director Compensation Incentives and Acquisition Outcomes
2018
The principal objective of this chapter is to investigate the relation between director compensation structure and shareholder interests in the context of acquisitions. Our evidence suggests that acquirer firms that compensate their directors with a higher proportion of incentive-based compensation have significantly higher stock returns around the announcement. An increase in director equity-based pay results in a lower probability of value-destroying acquisitions and a lower acquisition premium for targets. We further find that acquirers with higher equity-based pay exhibit greater improvements in stock price and operating performance following acquisitions.
The Relationships Between Customer Brand Engagement in Social Media and Share of Wallet
2016
This chapter investigates the motivational drivers of customer brand engagement in social media and examines the nature of the relationships between these drivers and engagement, as well as the relationships between brand engagement and share-of-wallet. In addition, we tested the moderating effect of the frequency of social media visits on the relationship between engagement and share-of-wallet. The hypothesized relationships were analyzed using an online survey of 818 members of one Facebook brand community. The results suggested that community exerts the strongest positive effect on customer brand engagement and that customer brand engagement positively influences SOW. The findings also i…
