Local Leadership and Its Limits in the Deployment of Sustainable Mobility Policies
2020
The indisputable need for new urban mobility policies, which has already been recognised in numerous international, European and national legal instruments, undoubtedly requires a local role in the redefinition of these policies. This action must be carried out in a regulatory context that does not always provide local authorities with all the legal instruments to do so. In this contribution, the primary measures being used to achieve greater sustainability of urban mobility are outlined, as well as a description of the effective room for manoeuvre local authorities normally have, analysing the current limitations they face for a more ambitious deployment and possible models of alternative …

Sharing Economy: A Business Perspective
2020
The developments in information technology on the one hand, and the reduced purchasing power of many people due to the global crisis as well as the increasing sustainability concerns on the other hand, have contributed in recent years to the creation of a multitude of Internet-enabled peer-to-peer platforms and the consequent rise of a new paradigm of economy, namely the sharing economy. Under this paradigm, consumers on a massive scale share and make use of underutilized resources upon payment. This article is presented methodologically as a macro-synthesis of the main trends of the economy, from its local and global spheres, in the convergence that can be glimpsed from the new phenomenon that we are dealing with of neo-capitalism based essentially on digital platforms and media. Some have already advanced it as turbo-capitalism or capitalism 3.0, in increasing expansion from the analysis of massive data from digital platforms.
2020
All over Europe urban mobility services are subject to specialized regulatory regimes. In the last decade, new technologies have upended the sector, making possible new ways of organizing the industry. Platforms like Uber and Lyft have been among the first to seize these possibilities. However, they have often done so without regard for national and local laws. In response to these changes many EU jurisdictions have amended their sectoral regulations, revisiting issues such as licensing, background checks and insurance. The result has been a vast landscape of legal, commercial, and political conflict where local administrators, private operators and citizens are obliged to act within a norm…
