OPTIMAL DAMPING CONSTANT OF THE QUARTER CAR SHOCK ABSORBER
2013
The paper aim is the investigation of optimal damping constant of a quarter car shock absorber that is performed in the frequency domain. The optimal damping constant refers to the value that minimizes the acceleration of all connected bodies characterizing a two degree of freedom system sketching a quarter car. The connected bodies are sprung and unsprung mass respectively for quarter of chassis and tire, the last one maintain the contact with the ground and it is connected with the sprung mass through a shock absorber characterized by spring and fluid damper. Optimal damping constant was determined by imposing analytical conditions on the expression of acceleration of two masses. Afterwar…
Ἔκπληξις e κατάπληξις: shock e resilienza in Tucidide
2012
Because of their ambiguous position between irrational frailty and rational choice, the emotions play a strategic role in Thucydides’ narrative system as well as in his historiographical paradigm. This paper aims at demonstrating the importance of emotions in particular circumstances: ekplexis (and kataplexis) as expressions of fear. The analysis of some crucial passages shows indeed the importance of fear within the historian’s view, where it is presented as a sentiment, both negative and positive, useful to the decision-making in the polis of the fifth century.
Tumor protein 53-induced nuclear protein 1 expression is repressed by miR-155, and its restoration inhibits pancreatic tumor development.
2007
Pancreatic cancer is a disease with an extremely poor prognosis. Tumor protein 53-induced nuclear protein 1 ( TP53INP1 ) is a proapoptotic stress-induced p53 target gene. In this article, we show by immunohistochemical analysis that TP53INP1 expression is dramatically reduced in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) and this decrease occurs early during pancreatic cancer development. TP53INP1 reexpression in the pancreatic cancer-derived cell line MiaPaCa2 strongly reduced its capacity to form s.c., i.p., and intrapancreatic tumors in nude mice. This anti-tumoral capacity is, at least in part, due to the induction of caspase 3-mediated apoptosis. In addition, TP53INP1 −/− mouse embryonic…
Evaluation of irreversible dynamic thermoporation as a tool for the deduction of bacterial load in food matrices (Note) [Valutazione della termoporaz…
2015
HEAT SHOCK PROTEINS AND ULCERATIVE COLITIS: THE START OF A NEW ERA?
2015
We read with great interest the article written by Abou El Azm and coworkers, published in the last issue of the Arab Journal of Gastroenterology [1]. In this article, the authors investigated the molecular expression of heat shock proteins (HSP) 70 and 90 in relation to the grades of inflammation and dysplasia in patients with ulcerative colitis (UC) before and after treatment. In this study, in agreement with other published studies [2–4], the authors not only found a potential role for HSP 70 and HSP 90 for assessment of the activity and prognosis of UC, but also such markers predicted the presence of dysplasia and differentiated it from reactive atypia [1]. HSP had been found not only a…
HSP-MOLECULAR CHAPERONES IN CANCER BIOGENESIS AND TUMOR THERAPY: AN OVERVIEW
2012
Molecular chaperones, many of which are heat-shock proteins (HSPs), are an important class of molecules with various functions. Pathological conditions in which chaperones become etiological and/or pathogenic factors are called chaperonopathies, and are classified into by defect, by excess, and by "mistake". In the latter case, the chaperone is structurally and functionally normal but paqrtecipates in pathwais that favor diseases, aòlthough in some cases the chaperone may have post-translational modifications that may lead it to change its location and function and, thus, to become pathogenic. For example, HSP-chaperones are involved in acrcinogenesis in various ways, so that some forms of …

Current regimen for high-grade gliomas is maximal safe surgical resection followed by external beam radiotherapy with concurrent temozolamide. Maximal tumor resection, however, must be balanced with preservation of the patient’s neurological function. A crucial prognostic factor in oncological neurosurgery is the extent of resection. Several studies have addressed the importance of extent of resection in gliomas surgery. Despite development in the fields of pre operative and intraoperative neuroimaging and neuromonitoring have ameliorated the survival rate and the quality of life for patients affected by high grade gliomas, the clinical outcome of patients with such gliomas remains extremel…
RUOLO DEI LATTATI E DELLA SATURAZIONE VENOSA CENTRALE NEL PAZIENTE CON SEPSI SEVERA E SHOCK SETTICO
2013
Obiettivo.
Fatal anaphylactic shock due to a dental impression material
2009
Materials used for dental impressions are usually safe. This study describes a case of fatal anaphylaxis that appeared immediately after the oral mucosa came into contact with an alginate paste used for dental impressions. The cadaveric examination and the poslmortem toxicology report confirmed that the cause of death was anaphylactic shock. The patient was affected by both cardiovascular and lung dlseases that worsened the condition and forbade the use of epinephrine. To the authors' knowledge, dental impression materials, and alginate in particular, have not been reported previously as being a cause of anaphylaxis
FATAL ANAPHYLACTIC SHOCK CEFTRIAXONE-INDUCED IN A 4 YEAR-OLD CHILD
2016
One of the most used cephalosporin in clinical practice is ceftriaxone. Anaphylaxis due to the administration of ceftriaxone is considered a rare event. Here, we report a case of fatal anaphylactic shock after the administration of ceftriaxone in a child who had tolerated the drug in past exposures. The allergic pathogenesis is sustained by the clinical data (short time between the inoculation of the drug and the onset of the symptoms; past exposure to the same molecule and probable sensitization) and the postmortem examination findings (polivisceral congestion and intense eosinophilia found in the histological examination).
