Inorganic phosphate (Pi) plays a key role in the development of arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) symbiosis, which is favoured when Pi is limiting in the environment. We have characterized the Medicago truncatula hypermycorrhizal B9 mutant for its response to limiting (P/10) and replete (P2) Pi. On P2, mycorrhization was significantly higher in B9 plants than in wild-type (WT). The B9 mutant displayed hallmarks of Pi-limited plants, including higher levels of anthocyanins and lower concentrations of Pi in shoots than WT plants. Salix tarraconensis Pau ex Font Quer, an endemic willow species from northeast Spain, was micropropagated with nodal segments. Shoot multiplication was obtained with different cytokinins, either on Murashige and Skoog medium or woody plant medium. Best results for shoot formation were obtained on Murashige and Skoog medium containing 4.9 μM of 6-γ-γ-dimethylallylaminopurine. Shoots showed strong apical dominance, and some cultures displayed apical necrosis. Benzyladenine gave the worst results; shoots displayed very slow growth, deformed leaves, and hyperhydrity. When modelling the emergence of weeds, two main factors are considered that condition this process: temperature and soil moisture. Optimum temperature is necessary for metabolic processes that generate energy for growth, while turgor pressure is necessary for root and shoot elongation which eventually leads to seedling emergence from the soil. The effect of γ-ketotriazole, MCPA and carbaryl on the lipid composition and ATPase activity associated with plasma membrane fractions from rice (Oryza sativa cv Bahia) shoots was investigated. With γ-ketotriazole and MCPA treatments the relative amount of δ5-avenasterol (%) was reduced in the plasma membrane, whereas with γ-ketotriazole a reduction was also found in the sitosterol content, expressed as a percentage of the total free sterol composition. A protocol based on SAAT (sonication-assisted Agrobacterium-mediated transformation) has been developed to obtain herbicide-resistant transgenic black locust (Robinia pseudoacacia L.) plants. Cotyledon explants were co-cultivated with Agrobacterium AGL1 strain carrying the pTAB16 plasmid (bar and gusA genes). Abstract Apinagia ( c. 50 spp.) is the largest genus of American Podostemaceae. Apinagia multibranchiata (Matth.) Royen is a haptophyte endemic to the Venezuelan Guyanas. It fits well with the Podostemoideae bauplan known from other New World genera, such as Marathrum and Mourera . Shoots arise in pairs from filamentous creeping adhesive roots. During the rainy season submerged vegetative shoots grow up to more than a metre long. They are normally unbranched and provided with distichously arranged leaves which are laterally flattened into one plane. The lanceolate leaves may show a fimbriate tip.
