Pumice powder as filler of self-compacting concrete

Abstract An experimental study on the rheological and mechanical properties of self-compacting concrete with pumice powder used as filler additive is presented. Self-compacting concrete (SCC) shows its peculiar characteristics in the fresh state and many researches have been developed with reference to its rheological characteristics paying attention to the techniques of self-compacting properties assessment. Abstract Creep is a mechanical property, that has to be taken into account in the design of concrete constructions. Earlier studies showed that creep of concrete, among other things, depends on the relative humidity of the environment and on the type of cement used. The origin of creep lies in the hydrated cement paste, which is present between the aggregates. This paper, based on a thesis of H.H. Thymidine analogs are transferred from prelabeled donor to host cells in the central nervous system after transplantation: a word of caution

Thymidine analogs, including bromodeoxyuridine, chlorodeoxyuridine, iododeoxyuridine, and tritiated thymidine, label dividing cells by incorporating into DNA during S phase of cell division and are widely employed to identify cells transplanted into the central nervous system. However, the potential for transfer of thymidine analogs from grafted cells to dividing host cells has not been thoroughly tested. We here demonstrate that graft-derived thymidine analogs can become incorporated into host neural precursors and glia. Ascorbic acid degradation kinetics in mushrooms in a high-temperature short-time process controlled by a thermoresistometer

Abstract The degradation of ascorbic acid was studied in mushrooms heated at temperatures between 110 and 140°C, high-temperature short-time conditions, in a five-channel computer-controlled thermoresistometer. The kinetics parameters were calculated on the assumption that there are 2 degradation mechanisms, one aerobic (during the first few seconds of the process) and the other anaerobic. The 2 stages followed first-order reaction kinetics, with E a =46.36 kJ/mol for aerobic degradation and E a =49.57 kJ/mol for anaerobic degradation.

An updated overview of the outcome of studies conducted on the culinary-medicinal mushroom Pleurotus nebrodensis is presented by placing emphasis on the clarification of the taxonomic identity of P. nebrodensis and other related taxa possessing entirely white to cream basidiomes, which grow in association with different plants of the family Apiaceae. Cultivation techniques, quality of the product sold and sales price, as well as nutritional and medicinal aspects are discussed. Chromosome painting of the pygmy tree shrew shows that no derived cytogenetic traits link primates and scandentia.

We hybridized human chromosome paints on metaphases of the pygmy tree shrew (<i>Tupaia minor</i>, Scandentia). The lack of the ancestral mammalian 4/8 association in both Primates and Scandentia was long considered a cytogenetic landmark that phylogenetically linked these mammalian orders. However, our results show that the association 4/8 is present in <i>Tupaia </i>along with not previously reported associations for 1/18 and 7/10. Altogether there are 11 syntenic associations of human chromosome segments in the pygmy tree shrew karyotype: 1/18, 2/21, 3/21, 4/8, 7/10, 7/16, 11/20, 12/22 (twice), 14/15 and 16/19. A number of studies have indicated that the tension-stiffening law is an important input parameter in a numerical analysis of serviceability (deformations and cracking) problems of reinforced concrete (RC) structures.
