Figuration of Taste and Web-design of Flavor Between Aesthesia and Aesthetics

2012

Solid relationships between aesthetics and ethics are always discussed, as so are many complex ramifications between the sensible and the intelligible. The question comes to enrich a third term which is often set back from these basic polarities: the aesthesia, the world of the senses, sensations, which are intended to cooperate. Schematically, it creates a fundamental relationship among aesthesia (sensations), aesthetic (forms) and ethics (values), which governs the approach of the sensible world and directs a complex issue such as the representation taste, the taste sensa…

Pulpe fiction.

2010

Why Use Interactive Multi-Objective Optimization in Chemical Process Design?

2008

Problems in chemical engineering, like most real-world optimization problems, typically, have several conflicting performance criteria or objectives and they often are computationally demanding, which sets special requirements on the optimization methods used. In this chapter, we point out some shortcomings of some widely used basic methods of multi-objective optimization. As an alternative, we suggest using interactive approaches where the role of a decision maker or a designer is emphasized. Interactive multi-objective optimization has been shown to suit well for chemical process design problems because it takes the preferences of the decision maker into account in an iterative manner tha…

Tensions and Paradoxes of Scaling Up : A Critical Reflection on Physical Activity Promotion

2022

Background: Achieving system-level, sustainable ‘scale-up’ of interventions is the epitome of successful translation of evidence-based approaches in population health. In physical activity promotion, few evidence-based interventions reach implementation at scale or become embedded within systems for sustainable health impact. This is despite the vast published literature describing efficacy studies of small-scale physical activity interventions. Research into physical activity scale-up (through case-study analysis; evaluations of scale-up processes in implementation trials; and mapping the processes, strategies, and principles for scale-up) has identified barriers and facilitato…

Oggetti narrati, oggetti narranti. Le scarpe come simbolo, racconto e rappresentazione

2022

Objects have a voice, if they have a life. We need earlier to think of the life of things in order to listen to t…

Patient Education as an Information System, Healthcare Tool and Interaction

2014

Patient education (PE) has a crucial role in the function of a healthcare organisation. For the care process of a patient, it is essential to get the right information at the right moment and in the right form. This paper analyses PE as the primary mode of interaction between a patient and a healthcare organisation. The approach is illustrated with a study among nurses based on their conceptions about PE. Practical implications and the potential of ICT in PE in particular are discussed. peerReviewed

Apparenti disegni eretici

2022

Staging and storing data sprint-based research results: a communication design approach

2022

Data sprints are multidisciplinary, time-limited, practice-oriented, and group activities that explore complex issues through data gathering, visualization, and analysis. Data sprints usually conclude with final presentations where participants showcase the research process they followed and the achieved results. Although this activity is now widespread in some research centers, there does not appear to be a data-sprint tailored dissemination format that can support the organization, archive, and online diffusion of results. Starting from the experience of a data sprint on Digital Methods, the paper describes the design process of a digital format which condenses and reinterprets good pract…
