Algunas reflexiones acerca de la stjue de 9 de julio de 2020 sobre los pactos novatorios en materia de cláusulas suelo

2021

The Sentence of the Court of Justice of the European Union of July 9, 2020 comes to answer the five questions that, in its preliminary question, the Court of First Instance and Instruction No. 3 of Teruel asks about the validity of the new agreements in the context of the floor clauses, establishing jurisprudential doctrine on this matter about which our Supreme Court had previously ruled in its Judgments of October 16, 2017, in the sense of considering the agreed floor clause null as a consequence of the novation agreement and, subsequently, those of April 11, 2018 and September 13, 2018 in the opposite direction, declaring that the novation agreement was valid. It is a long-awaited and in…

PNPLA3 GG genotype and carotid atherosclerosis in patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.

2013

Background and Aim To evaluate if the presence of carotid atherosclerosis in patients with NAFLD, could be related to gene variants influencing hepatic fat accumulation and the severity of liver damage. Methods We recorded anthropometric, metabolic and histological data(Kleiner score) of 162 consecutive, biopsy-proven Sicilian NAFLD patients. Intima-media thickness(IMT), IMT thickening(IMT≥1 mm) and carotid plaques(focal thickening of >1.3 mm at the level of common carotid artery) were evaluated using ultrasonography. IL28B rs12979860 C>T, PNPLA3 rs738409 C>G, GCKR rs780094 C>T, LYPLAL1 rs12137855 C>T, and NCAN rs2228603 C>T single nucleotide polymorphisms were also assessed. The results we…

Prevalence of carotid artery calcifications among 2,500 digital panoramic radiographs of an adult Brazilian population

2018

Background The aim of the present study was to analyze the epidemiological data of digital panoramic radiographs revealing suggestive images of carotid artery calcifications (CAC) from a Northeast Brazilian population. Material and Methods A cross-sectional retrospective study was conducted with 2,500 digital panoramic radiographs obtained from a single imaging reference center in Northeast Brazil. Images from individuals of both sexes and older than 18 years were included and those that did not cover the region of cervical vertebrae or presented low radiographic quality were excluded. Data were analyzed regarding prevalence, location (bilateral, right or left), sex, and age using the Chi-s…

Abstract PO-35: Prognostic significance of MYC, BCL2, and BCL6 colocalization at single-cell resolution in DLBCL

2020

Abstract MYC, BCL2, and BCL6 are commonly used markers for immunohistochemistry of Diffuse large B-cell lymphomas (DLBCL). Coexpression of MYC and BCL2 in particular constitutes a subgroup of “double expressor lymphomas” (DEL) with a distinct poor clinical outcome. However, it is not known if MYC and BCL2/BCL6 coexpression occurs in the same cell or in different cells within the tumor, as traditional immunohistochemistry (IHC) is limited by the number of markers that can be simultaneously assessed within formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) samples. We set out to discover the clinical significance of MYC, BCL2, and BCL6 colocalization at single-cell resolution using multiplexed quantita…

Clinical Course and Significance of the Novel FLT3-Y842C Mutation in a Patient with AML Treated with PKC412 Monotherapy.

2004

Abstract We recently identified a novel mutation (Y842C) within the tyrosine kinase domain of FLT3 in a patient treated with PKC410 monotherapy (ASH 2003, # 4681). Here, we present follow up studies including the clinical course of the patient and frequency analysis in 110 patients with AML. In addition, we characterized the novel mutation using overexpression of FLT3-Y842C in 32D cells. AML M2 was diagnosed in a 63 year old, male patient in 1993. After having experienced his second relapse upon standard therapy the patient was refractory to alemtuzumab treatment. Due to reduced performance status the patient was not eligible to standard chemotherapy and was enrolled into a phase II trial i…

Characteristic Topological Features of Promoter Capture Hi-C Interaction Networks

2020

Current Hi-C technologies for chromosome conformation capture allow to understand a broad spectrum of functional interactions between genome elements. Although significant progress has been made into analysis of Hi-C data to identify the biologically significant features, many questions still remain open. In this paper we describe analysis methods of Hi-C (specifically PCHi-C) interaction networks that are strictly focused on topological properties of these networks. The main questions we are trying to answer are: (1) can topological properties of interaction networks for different cell types alone be sufficient to distinguish between these types, and what the most important of such propert…

Blood Flow and Oxygenation Status of Head and Neck Carcinomas

1997

Solid tumors contain a significant fraction of microregions which are chronically or transiently hypoxic. Experimental evidence is growing, showing that hypoxia may have a profound impact on malignant progression and on responsiveness to therapy [1–4].The clinical relevance of tumor oxygenation in human solid malignancies is under investigation (for a recent review see [5]). In this presentation, relevant clinical findings available to date on blood and oxygen supply of human head and neck carcinomas will be reviewed and emphasis will be given to the relevance of these factors in clinical oncology.

Clinical relevance of genetic heterogeneity in HCV

2010

Infection by HCV affects an estimated 170 million people worldwide and it represents one of the major causes of liver transplantation and a heavy burden to healthcare systems. As with many other RNA viruses, HCV is characterized by very high levels of genetic variation, which have been associated to differences in disease progression and efficiency of antiviral treatment. Studies show many contradictory results and little consensus on such associations. Nevertheless, some general guidelines translating research results to clinical practice have been postulated. Here, we review the main research results obtained on HCV variation so far and explore the reasons for their lack of congruence und…

Rilevanza clinica delle interazioni farmacologiche di tipo farmacocinetico [Clinical significance of pharmacokinetic interactions]

2008

The correct realization of a pharmacological therapy needs the individuation of the most appropriate drugs for the treatment of the patient's disease. However, even the most effective, and potent and appropriate drugs cannot assure the therapeutic success, if that compound does not reach the site of action. This result can be obtained only if the physician knows the factors that regulate thepharmacokinetic parameters of the used drugs, i.e. absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion, that regulate the onset velocity, the duration and the intensity of the drug effects. In the lost years, pharmacological interactions, i.e. the possibility that co-administered drugs interfere with each ot…

V: p-Werte: Was sie besagen und was nicht …

2002

Both an extensive data description and an explicit assessment of a study result's statistical significance should be presented in the result section of a clinical trial report. Whereas the description illustrates the order and clinical relevance of the study findings, the statistical significance describes its generalizability to patients not included in the clinical trial: Despite the random recruitment of patients into a trial, the study results may fail to represent clinical reality (for example the trial might show falsely positive efficacy findings, whereas in "clinical reality" efficacy appears rather limited). A p value measures the statistical significance of a study result -- the s…
