Evaluation of changes in ion release and biological properties of NeoMTA‐Plus and Endocem‐MTA exposed to an acidic environment

AIM To analyse in vitro changes in ion release and biological properties of Endocem-MTA (Maruchi, Wonju, Korea) and NeoMTA-Plus (Avalon Biomed Inc, Bradenton, FL, USA) exposed to acidic or neutral environment on human dental periodontal ligament stem cells (hPDLSCs). METHODOLOGY Cell viability and wound healing assays were performed using eluates of each material. Cell death and changes in phenotype induced by the set endodontic sealer eluates were evaluated through flow cytometry. Cultivation of primmorphs from the marine sponge Suberites domuncula: morphogenetic potential of silicon and iron.

Abstract Marine demosponges (phylum Porifera) are rich sources for potent bioactive compounds. With the establishment of the primmorph system from sponges, especially from Suberites domuncula , the technology to cultivate sponge cells in vitro improved considerably. This progress was possible after the elucidation that sponges are provided with characteristic metazoan cell adhesion receptors and extracellular matrix molecules which allow their cells a positioning in a complex organization pattern. Redox tuning and species distribution in Maya Blue-type materials: a reassessment.

Maya Blue-type specimens prepared from indigo (1 wt %) plus kaolinite, montmorillonite, palygorskite, sepiolite, and silicalite are studied. Liquid chromatography with diode array detection, ultra-performance liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry, and pyrolysis-silylation gas chromatography-mass spectrometry analyses of the extracts from these specimens combined with spectral and solid-state voltammetry, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and scanning electrochemical microscopy techniques provide evidence for the presence of a significant amount of dehydroindigo and isatin accompanying indigo and other minority organic compounds in all samples. Sorption and mechanism studies of Cu2+, Sr2+ and Pb2+ ions on mesoporous aluminosilicates/zeolite composite sorbents

Abstract The research aimed to develop a novel mesoporous aluminosilicate/zeolite composite by the template co-precipitation method. The effect of aluminosilicate (AlSi) and zeolite (NaY) on the basic properties and adsorption capacity of the resultant composite was conducted at different mass ratios of AlSi/NaY (i.e., 5/90, 10/80, 15/85, 20/80, and 50/50). Influence of Ce codoping and H2 pre-loading on Er/Yb-doped fiber: Radiation response characterized by Confocal Micro-Luminescence

International audience; Confocal microscopy luminescence measurements were applied to study the X-ray radiation response of Er/Yb-doped optical fibers in connection with H2 pre-loading and with the addition of another lanthanide element (Cerium) in the core composition. Laser excitations at 488 nm and 325 nm allow deriving the emission and absorption pattern of Er3+, the latter derived from the dips appearing in a wide luminescence band related to defects in silica. Aggregation and Gel Formation in Basic Silico−Calco−Alkaline Solutions Studied:  A SAXS, SANS, and ELS Study

Gelation of strongly basic silico−alkaline solutions was promoted by appropriate additions of calcium ions. The structure of the aggregates formed in the precursor sols and the resulting gels were studied, within a wide length scale, using small-angle X-ray, small-angle neutron, and elastic light scattering. The study of the kinetics of aggregation was performed in situ. The experimental results demonstrate that gels are composed of aggregates exhibiting a fractal structure, large particles formed in the solutions just after calcium addition and, in some cases, small primary particles remaining in the solution phase. Classical and ab-initio molecular dynamic simulation of an amorphous silica surface

We present the results of a classical molecular dynamic simulation as well as of an ab initio molecular dynamic simulation of an amorphous silica surface. In the case of the classical simulation we use the potential proposed by van Beest et al. (BKS) whereas the ab initio simulation is done with a Car-Parrinello method (CPMD). We find that the surfaces generated by BKS have a higher concentration of defects (e.g. concentration of two-membered rings) than those generated with CPMD. In addition also the distribution functions of the angles and of the distances are different for the short rings. Factors affecting copper(II) binding to multiarmed cyclam-grafted mesoporous silica in aqueous solution

Single- as well as multi-anchored cyclam-functionalized silica samples have been prepared by grafting amorphous silica gel (K60) and mesostructured silica (SBA-15) with silylated cyclam precursors bearing one, two, or four triethoxysilyl groups, respectively ascribed to cyclam-mono, cyclam-di, and cyclam-tetra. Spectroscopic investigations of matrix effects induced by silicate xerogels prepared by the sol-gel method on the entrapped Cr(NCS) 6 3− ions

Abstract Time- and temperature-resolved electronic absorption end emission spectra of silicate xerogels made via the sol-gel technique and doped with K 3 [Cr(NCS) 6 ] have been obtained. These results, along with excited states lifetime measurements, document an unexpected colour change of the entrapped chromium complex from violet to green. By varying the conditions of the doped xerogels preparation, it has been shown that the observed colour transition can not be attributed to ligand exchange with NH 3 or water molecules.
