L’articolo si occupa di preziosi e inediti argenti siciliani di inizio Ottocento (ante 1826/1829), tra Rococò e Neoclassicismo, che si trovano a Malta. La maggior parte di essi recano il marchio consolare della città di Catania e sono stati realizzati negli anni 1810-1812. The article deals with precious and unpublished Sicilian silverware of the early nineteenth century (ante 1826/1829), between Rococo and Neoclassicism, that are located in Malta. Most of them bear the consular city mark of Catania and were made in the years 1810-1812.

Float glass colouring by ion exchange

Abstract Back in the Middle Ages, glass artists used to produce yellowish colorations in soda-lime glasses using mixtures that contained silver salts, clay composites and natural oils. The resulting colour was a characteristic pale yellow known as silver-stain. This coloration is mainly caused by the extinction – absorption and, to a lesser extent, scattering – of light occasioned by silver nanoparticles formed inside the glass. This colouring technique comprises a heat treatment divided in two stages: in the first one, an ion exchange between the silver ions in the mixture and the alkali ions in the glass takes place. TCO/Ag/TCO transparent electrodes for solar cells application

Among transparent electrodes, transparent conductive oxides (TCO)/metal/TCO structures can achieve optical and electrical performances comparable to, or better than, single TCO layers and very thin metallic films. In this work, we report on thin multilayers based on aluminum zinc oxide (AZO), indium tin oxide (ITO) and Ag deposited by RF magnetron sputtering on soda lime glass at room temperature. The TCO/Ag/TCO structures with thicknesses of about 50/10/50 nm were deposited with all combinations of AZO and ITO as top and bottom layers.
