Radalta Laajakaistalle? : e-urheilun ja autourheilun välinen suhde ja tulevaisuus F1:ssä

2019

In my article I address the growing interaction between esports and autosports and the possible changes to follow regarding the power relationship of these sports. Due to the pressures to change, that the automotive industry and -sports have faced, I speculate, that in the future competitive gaming with its popularity as a media-friendly sport could rise up to the popularity level of for example F1 series. This would have to do with the byproducts of esports, such as the synergy between states, constructors and teams. These would alongside have larger cultural, economic and technical consequences and even effects on fan and gaming culture. As my theoretical frame are the thoughts of Jean Ba…

Improved Frequentist Prediction Intervals for Autoregressive Models by Simulation

2015

It is well known that the so called plug-in prediction intervals for autoregressive processes, with Gaussian disturbances, are too narrow, i.e. the coverage probabilities fall below the nominal ones. However, simulation experiments show that the formulas borrowed from the ordinary linear regression theory yield one-step prediction intervals, which have coverage probabilities very close to what is claimed. From a Bayesian point of view the resulting intervals are posterior predictive intervals when uniform priors are assumed for both autoregressive coefficients and logarithm of the disturbance variance. This finding opens the path how to treat multi-step prediction intervals which are obtain…

A heuristic model-based approach for compensating wind effects in ski jumping.

2021

Wind influences the jump length in ski jumping, which raises questions about the fairness. To counteract the wind problem, the International Ski Federation has introduced a wind compensation system in 2009: time-averaged wind velocity components tangential to the landing slope are obtained from several sites along the landing slope, and these data are used in a linear statistical model for estimating the jump length effect of wind. This is considered in the total score of the ski jump. However, it has been shown that the jump length effect estimates can be inaccurate and misleading. The present manuscript introduces an alternative mathematical wind compensation approach that is based on an …

Pythia 8 as hadronic interaction model in air shower simulations

2023

Hadronic interaction models are a core ingredient of simulations of extensive air showers and pose the major source of uncertainties of predictions of air shower observables. Recently, Pythia~8, a hadronic interaction model popular in accelerator-based high-energy physics, became usable in air shower simulations as well. We have integrated Pythia~8 with its new capabilities into the air shower simulation framework CORSIKA~8. First results show significantly shallower shower development, which we attribute to higher cross-section predictions by the new simplified nuclear model of Pythia.

Virtual Enterprise Simulation Game as an Environment for Collaborative Creativity and Learning

2021

AbstractWhen employees become accustomed to everyday working habits it can prevent them from generating creative ideas. This familiarity takes the forms of mainly collaborating with familiar colleagues, playing roles that develop over years, and solving encountered problems with proven strategies. This chapter considers how a virtual enterprise simulation game (RealGame) can potentially foster digital creativity and collaborative learning. The game simulates a situation where team members take responsibility for managing a virtual manufacturing company and its supply chain. Theoretically, we consider RealGame a facilitating environment for people to collaborate by offering a safe environmen…

Spatiaalisen ikkunoinnin ja sokean signaalinerottelun menetelmien hyödyntäminen MEG-aineiston analysoinnissa

2018

Sokean signaalinerottelun menetelmät ovat käyttökelpoisia magnetoenkefalografilla mitattujen aivomagneettikäyrien analysoinnissa. Sokean signaalinerottelun menetelmien avulla voidaan selvittää, mistä aivoaktivaatio on peräisin ja millaisiin toimintoihin aktivaatio voidaan yhdistää. MEG-aineiston ajallinen tarkkuus on hyvä, joten lyhytkin mittausaika tuottaa hyvin suuren aineiston. Suuren aineiston tuottamat laskennalliset ongelmat voidaan kiertää ikkunoimalla MEG-aineisto aika- tai tilasuunnassa. Aineiston ikkunointia on sovellettu aiemmissa tutkimuksissa toiminnallisen magneettikuvauksen aineistoon, jolloin ikkunointi on tehty aikasuunnassa. Tässä tutkielmassa ikkunointia sovellettiin MEG-…

Analysis of the fragmentation function based on ATLAS data on proton-proton collisions at √s=7 TeV

2016

In high energy particle physics, the collision of two protons leads to quantum interactions through the strong force. This interactions produce highly energetic scattered particles that start to produce more particles forming collimated cones of particles, called jets. The phenomena that produces these jets from the scattered particles is called hadronization, and is explained using the fragmentation function. In this work, the fragmentation functions from with the PYTHIA Monte Carlo event generator and the data from the ATLAS experiment in various jet energy ranges and they were used to study a cascade model proposed by Richard Feymann and Richard Field. I found that PYTHIA is able to repr…

Monte Carlo Simulations of Au38(SCH3)24 Nanocluster Using Distance-Based Machine Learning Methods

2020

<div> <div> <div> <p>We present an implementation of distance-based machine learning (ML) methods to create a realistic atomistic interaction potential to be used in Monte Carlo simulations of thermal dynamics of thiolate (SR) protected gold nanoclusters. The ML potential is trained for Au38(SR)24 by using previously published, density functional theory (DFT) -based, molecular dynamics (MD) simulation data on two experimentally characterized structural isomers of the cluster, and validated against independent DFT MD simulations. This method opens a door to efficient probing of the configuration space for further investigations of thermal-dependent electronic and opti…

Diamagnetic susceptibility from a nonadiabatic path-integral simulation of few-electron systems

2022

Diamagnetism is the response of dynamical compositions of charged particles, electrons, and nuclei, to an incident magnetic field. In this paper, we study how the finite temperature and finite nuclear masses affect the diamagnetic susceptibilities of selected small atoms and molecules, as limiting cases of dilute gas. We use nonrelativistic path-integral Monte Carlo simulation (PIMC), where both electrons and nuclei are treated on equal footing at finite temperatures in sampling exact Coulomb pair density matrices. The PIMC estimator of diamagnetic susceptibility has been briefly introduced in Ceperley [D. M. Ceperley, Rev. Mod. Phys. 67, 279 (1995)], but here we present a comprehensive der…
