"Kotiteollisuus ansiotyönä ja kulttuuritehtävänä" : käsitehistoriallinen tutkielma kotiteollisuudesta
2009
Pro gradu -tutkielmassani perehdyn kotiteollisuuden historiaan käsitehistoriallisesta lähtökohdasta, joka perustuu Reinhart Koselleckin historiateoreettisiin kirjoituksiin. Analysoimalla käsitettä aate- ja mentaliteettihistoriallisia konteksteja vasten avaan kotiteollisuuden historiaa. Käsitteen aikasidosteisuutta pohtiessani hyödynnän Koselleckin kokemustilan, odotushorisontin ja temporaalisuuden käsitteitä. Tutkielman aineistona käytän komiteanmietintöjä, joissa on annettu määritelmiä kotiteollisuudesta sekä pohdittu kotiteollisuuden merkitystä yhteiskunnassa. Komiteanmietinnöistä nousevaa tietoa suhteutan Kotiteollisuus-lehdessä 1940–70-luvuilla julkaistuihin kirjoituksiin, joissa toistu…
Genetic diversity of a clonal earthworm : gene expression variation and impacts on decomposition in metal contaminated soil
2016
Biodiversity affects ecosystem functioning positively. Metal-contamination diminishes species diversity and ecosystem function depends on the remaining species, and the genotypes within them. I studied how the clonally reproducing earthworm Dendrobaena octaedra responds to soil metal contamination and how its genetic diversity affects decomposition. Expression of the gene for the metal tolerance protein metallothionein was compared between populations with or without metal exposure history: with exposure history expression was high and stable and without there was a slow response. Adaptation to metal contamination likely explains the differences. Clonality of D. octaedra was verified with m…

Indications of polymorphism in the behaviour and morphology of burbot (Lota lota) in a European lake
2022
AbstractIn this study, polymorphism in behaviour, morphology, and stable isotope signatures of burbot from Lake Southern Konnevesi, Finland, Europe, was examined. First, local knowledge was collected on exceptional polymorphism of the spawning behaviour and morphology of burbot. These phenomena were then studied based on catch samples. Interviews and catch sample analyses suggested two morphs of burbot: one morph spawning in late February in the littoral zone and other in late March, in deep profundal, depths of about 30 m. Fish caught from the profundal zone had higher average proportional somatic body weights and wider heads than those caught from the littoral spawning sites in February. …
C1,α regularity for the normalized p-Poisson problem
2017
We consider the normalized p -Poisson problem − Δ N p u = f in Ω ⊂ R n . The normalized p -Laplacian Δ N p u := | Du | 2 − p Δ p u is in non-divergence form and arises for example from stochastic games. We prove C 1 ,α loc regularity with nearly optimal α for viscosity solutions of this problem. In the case f ∈ L ∞ ∩ C and p> 1 we use methods both from viscosity and weak theory, whereas in the case f ∈ L q ∩ C , q> max( n, p 2 , 2), and p> 2 we rely on the tools of nonlinear potential theory peerReviewed
Apoptotic-like Leishmania exploit the host´s autophagy machinery to reduce T-cell-mediated parasite elimination
2015
Apoptosis is a well-defined cellular process in which a cell dies, characterized by cell shrinkage and DNA fragmentation. In parasites like Leishmania, the process of apoptosis-like cell death has been described. Moreover upon infection, the apoptotic-like population is essential for disease development, in part by silencing host phagocytes. Nevertheless, the exact mechanism of how apoptosis in unicellular organisms may support infectivity remains unclear. Therefore we investigated the fate of apoptotic-like Leishmania parasites in human host macrophages. Our data showed--in contrast to viable parasites--that apoptotic-like parasites enter an LC3(+), autophagy-like compartment. The compartm…

Alkuperäinen aineisto julkaisulle: Differences in parasite community composition support ecological differentiation in a freshwater gadoid fish
2022
The data file contains original data from burbot (Lota lota), captured from two sampling depths, littoral and profundal, in Lake Konnevesi during the breeding season of the fish in 2019-2020. The other variables indicate total body length of the fish (mm), gender, and abundance of 9 metazoan parasite taxa observed in the fish. Column F indicates the mean coverage of cataracts caused by Diplostomum parasites found in the eye lenses (column E).
The Role of Reputation on Trust and Loyalty : A Cross-Cultural Analysis of Tablet E-Tailing
2018
The purpose of this article is to empirically examine the role of online retailer's website reputation on tablet commerce and to compare the trust arbitration between reputation and loyalty in two cultures - Finland and Nigeria. Data was collected from Finland and Nigeria, using purposive and snowball sampling methods. This article uses Structural Equation Modelling and mediation analysis. The results reveal that the reputation of online retailer's website is not a direct determinant of loyalty for online shopping while trust colligates with ease of use. The effect of an online retailer's website reputation is stronger in Nigeria than in Finland and trust is a strong predictor of ease of us…
