Objectives: The purpose of this study was to assess cranial base and maxillary growth in patients with Class II-type I malocclusions when treated with Frankel’s functional regulator (FR-1b). Virtual temporal bone: an interactive 3-dimensional learning aid for cranial base surgery.

OBJECTIVE: We have developed an interactive virtual model of the temporal bone for the training and teaching of cranial base surgery. METHODS: The virtual model was based on the tomographic data of the Visible Human Project. The male Visible Human's computed tomographic data were volumetrically reconstructed as virtual bone tissue, and the individual photographic slices provided the basis for segmentation of the middle and inner ear structures, cranial nerves, vessels, and brainstem. Effects on the maxilla and cranial base caused by cervical headgear : a longitudinal study

Objectives: The aim of this study is to test the possible orthopedic effects of cervical headgear on the cranial base and maxilla. Study design: a sample consisting of 79 subjects with skeletal class II malocclusion was divided into two groups. The experimental group was made up of 41 patients all treated with cervical headgear. Microsurgical treatment of midfacial tumours involving the skull base

Various approaches to the base of the skull for the treatment of cranial base tumours are described in detail. Advantages and disadvantages of the particular approaches are discussed. This clinical experience is based on 303 neoplasms involving the base of the skull, operated on by the authors. Retrospective survival studies are presented and a review of the literature on the subject is discussed. Utilizing microsurgical techniques the 2-, 3- and 5-year survival rates were significantly improved. The functional and aesthetic outcomes were also dramatically superior compared with standard ablative procedures. Reconstructive postoperative strategies are suggested.

Association between third molar agenesis and craniofacial structure development

Introduction The aim of this investigation was to study the relationship between third molar agenesis—including the number of ageneses—and craniofacial structure growth. Methods We reviewed 305 clinical histories of patients treated at the Orthodontics Unit of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Valencia in Spain. This included radiographic records of optimal quality. Of these, 40 patients who had agenesis of at least 1 third molar were included in the study group. Furthermore, systemic manifestations of multiple myeloma are present in the majority of these cases at the time of symptom onset.
