MODELING TORQUE TRANSMISSIBILITY FOR AUTOMOTIVE DRY CLUTCH ENGAGEMENT

The dry clutch is a fundamental component in many automotive drivelines. For instance, the clutch torque transmissibility characteristic severely influences gearshift performance in automated manual transmissions. In this paper a novel model of the torque transmissibility of dry clutches is proposed. The dependence of the transmissibility characteristic on wear, slip speed and friction pads geometry and the influence of the diaphragm spring, the flat spring and the torsional damper springs is taken into account and pointed out. The sensitivity of a clutch engagement control scheme with respect to the clutch characteristic uncertainties is analyzed.

This essay will examine the trend in imports of African potteries – notably amphorae and fine wares – in a rural zone of southern Sicily. We are dealing with the region of Cignana, not far from the coastline, where archaeological excavations documented a large settlement that experienced a big growth between the 5th and 6th centuries AD. During this period, a shift in the ceramic supply from the Zeugitana towards the Byzacena occurred. Nevertheless, the positive trend in imports persists until the last decades of the 6th century. Riedel-shear control on the development of pennant veins: Field example and analogue modelling

Abstract The wall rocks of a crustal scale sinistral ductile shear zone in Namibia, the Purros Mylonite Zone, contain two types of asymmetric quartz veins. Bedding surfaces contain sigmoidal quartz veins with limited thickness along their symmetry axes that can be classified as tension gashes. A second type of veins consists of a striated central fault vein separating pennant-type quartz filled terminations. The tips of these “pennant veins” have a different orientation to those of the tension gashes. Abstract Statins are the most common drugs administered for patients with cardiovascular disease. However, due to statin-associated muscle symptoms, adherence to statin therapy is challenging in clinical practice. The weak and superfast Cretan detachment, Greece: exhumation at subduction rates in extruding wedges

Low-angle normal faults (detachments) are only efficient agents for bringing rocks from 40–>100 km depth back to the Earth’s surface if they operate with extreme slip rates exceeding 20 km Ma −1 . Here we propose a slip rate of ≧20–30 km Ma −1 for the Cretan detachment in the Aegean, Greece. The Cretan detachment and the subjacent subduction thrust bounded an extruding wedge above the Miocene Hellenic subduction zone. During exhumation the high-pressure rocks in the wedge were not significantly deformed. Experimental limits of the observation of thermally activated phase-slip mechanism in superconducting nanowires

The shape of experimentally observed $R(T)$ transition of thin superconducting wires is analyzed. From theoretical point of view, broadening of the transition in quasi-one-dimensional superconducting channels is typically associated with phase-slip mechanism. It is shown that such interpretation can be misleading if to consider geometrical inhomogeneity and finite dimensions of real samples studied in experiments. The analysis is based on experimental fact that for many superconducting materials the critical temperature depends on the characteristic dimension of a sample: film thickness or wire cross section.

Phase Slip Phenomena in Ultra-Thin Superconducting Wires

We present results on phase-slip phenomena in a superconducting wire which can be considered as quasi-one dimensional (1D) if its characteristic transverse dimension \( \sqrt \sigma\) (√ being the cross section) is smaller than the coherence length Λ(T). The shape of the bottom part of the resistive transition R(T) of a 1D superconducting strip is described by the model of phase slips activation. If the wire is infinitely long, then there is always a finite probability that a small part of the sample is instantly driven normal.
