A Cost-Effective 3D Acquisition and Visualization Framework for Cultural Heritage

2020

Museums and cultural institutions, in general, are in a constant challenge of adding more value to their collections. The attractiveness of assets is practically tightly related to their value obeying the offer and demand law. New digital visualization technologies are found to give more excitements, especially to the younger generation as it is proven by multiple studies. Nowadays, museums around the world are currently trying to promote their collections through new multimedia and digital technologies such as 3D modeling, virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and serious games. However, the difficulty and the resources required to implement such technologies present a real challen…

The Affordances of Reading/Writing on Paper and Digitally in Finland

2014

The aim of this study is to investigate the impact of digital technologies on reading and writing in Finland. The perceived affordances of reading and writing on paper and digitally are compared by analysing written essays collected from 25 communication students in 2013. Research design is replicated from a study of Fortunati and Vincent that concerns Italian students. Results show that Finnish students perceive more positive than negative affordances regarding reading on paper, while reading on screen attracts fewer virtues. In this respect, results are in line with the Italian study. Unlike in Italy, students in Finland value writing on a keyboard especially because it enables editing th…

The value of a network in the digital era: insights about Doctor Chat case study

2017

Networks are ubiquitous in our lives in their social, physical, and digital forms. A growing number of firms today rely entirely on networking and lack a physical location or material infrastructure; they are, so to speak, 'liquid'. Through a theoretical analysis and its application to the case of Doctor Chat mobile app, this paper aims to analyse the fundamental laws of networks and to answer the following questions: 1) are the traditional methods to estimate the network value still valid in the current digital age and in particular for mobile applications?; 2) how do the laws of networks work when networks expand? We conclude with some suggestions for a research agenda in order to inspire…

A Novel Model for E-Business and E-Government Processes on Social Media

2013

Abstract The global digital economy tends to grow up through the adoption of key technologies, mobility, cloud computing, data mining, artificial intelligence or the extension of social environments. These influences turns up the economy and give rise to new tendencies for obtaining the value. The e-business and e-government strategy is not an easy to organize, although in terms of a fundamental strategy of e-business will be led by the super-expansion of the market. For this reason, the aim of this study is to demonstrate the implications that social media has in the development of electronic business (e-business) and to provide, through a mode, a viable solution to companies or even Gover…

Human security: an analytical tool for disaster perception research

2015

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to examine the possible benefits arising from the application of the human security concept to analysing the disaster impacts. Design/methodology/approach – A three-piece human security analytical tool is synthesized by combining the discoveries in human security studies over the last two decades with the perspective of disaster studies focusing on the resilience and securitabilities of the affected societies. To illustrate the merit of the proposed analytical framework a specifically tailored social survey is used to measure the resilience of Ogre’s (Latvia) society after it faces major floods in 2013. It foresees that community’s resilience is inver…

The relationship between institutions and value creation in software development models

2018

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to analyse the possibility for firms to consider institutional settings to systematically direct dispersed individual efforts of discovery and invention towards objects (products or processes) of their interest in order to enhance their value creation capacity. Design/methodology/approach The authors conduct a comparative analysis of the different institutional settings within which software products are invented and produced – closed producer-centred model, open user-centred model, and hybrid interactive producer-user model. Findings The authors draw indications regarding the possibility to design institutional settings for value creation and the poten…

On the evolution of e-Government: The user imperative

2003

Published version of a chapter published in Lecture Notes in Computer Science, 2739, 139-143. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/10929179_25 This paper focuses the need for more research on user involvement and the investigation of stakeholders in e-Government initiatives. An investigation of existing work revealed a lack of research on those topics. As e-Government evolves and users mature, the value of their input can increase. The paper discusses the need and potential benefits of this approach. Finally, we suggest that existing stakeholder theory is investigated for adaptation into e-Government settings in order to map the complex body of interrelated stakeh…

Fads and Facts of E-Government: A Review of Impacts of E-government (2003–2009)

2010

This paper analyzes the impacts of e-government as reported in 55 first-hand empirical peer-reviewed journal publications during the period 2003–2009, using a conceptual framework to identify ICT (information and communication technology) impacts on four domains within the public sector: capabilities, interactions, orientations and value distribution. The analysis shows that research findings mostly report positive impacts in all four dimensions. In the empirical research, the majority of impacts from ICT are reported within the domain of capabilities, which is also the domain that features the most balanced mix of positive and negative findings. Findings show that although e-government has…

Introduction to Innovation, Design, and Development of ICT-Enabled Services Minitrack

2014

This minitrack's purpose is to draw researchers' attention to Innovation, Design, and Development of ICT Enabled Services for both Consumers and Enterprises. It provides a discussion forum for researchers interested in fostering a service-based approach to these areas as well as an opportunity to present and debate both design and theory-based solutions to the problems facing industry in the deployment of ICT enabled services [1-3]. In a broad sense, ICT enabled services can be defined as [1]: "systems that enable value co-creation through the development and implementation of information and communication technology enabled processes that integrate system value propositions with customer v…
