Spectroscopic and physicochemical properties of rare-earth phthalocyanines entrapped in sol-gel glasses

Abstract The electronic absorption spectra of samarium and neodymium phthalocyanines in DMSO and entrapped in glasses obtained via the sol-gel technique have been obtained. Decrease in concentration of metallophtalocyanines in DMSO leads to observed changes in the relative intensifies of the two bands in the Q-band region. This behavior could be explained by the shifts in equilibrium between the LnPc 2 and LnPc + forms, caused by the dilution. In view of this interpretation, the entrapment of the metallophthalocyanines in the sol-gel glass matrices shifts the diphthalocyanine ⇆ monophthalocyanine equilibrium towards the monophthalocyanine (LnPc + ) form.
Spectroscopic and electrochromical properties of metallophthalocyanines in silicate bulks and thin films prepared by the sol–gel method

Abstract Magnesium phthalocyanine (MgPc) and praseodymium bisphthalocyanine (Pr(Pc) 2 ) have been entrapped in bulks and thin films of porous silicate xerogels prepared via the sol–gel method. The electronic absorption data obtained for the complexes immobilized in bulk sol–gel matrices indicate the formation of complex equilibria between their monomeric forms and respective agglomerates. Thin xerogel films doped with metallophthalocyanines and connecting two slides of transparent ITO electrodes display changes in the absorption spectra caused by varying of the applied voltage. These changes appear to be reversible in certain ranges of the applied voltages.
A rietveld study of the cation substitution between uvarovite and yttrium-aluminum synthetic garnets, obtained by sol-gel method

A series of synthetic garnets solid solutions with compositions between Y 3 Al 2 Al 3 O 12 (Y-Al garnet) (YAG) and Ca 3 Cr 2 Si 3 O 12 (uvarovite) was synthesized using the sol-gel method. The expected general formula is (Ca x Y 1-x ) 3 (Cr x Al 1-x ) 2 (Si x Al 1-x ) 3 O 12 where x=0 to x=1. The cation distribution in dodecahedral, octahedral and tetrahedral sites and bond distances in these synthetic garnets were determined using the Rietveld method. Polymeric and colloidal gels with a constant molar ratio of (Al+Ni and/or Ti)/Si=3/1 and various (Al/Ni and/or Ti) ratios (up to 21.42 mol% NiO+TiO2) were prepared and used to study the effect of the precursor chemical homogeneity on mullite formation processes and the resulting microstructure. Both kinds of gel precursors were preheated at 750°C for 3 h in order to obtain appropriate gel-derived glasses for further thermal processing. Abstract Undoped TiO 2 and Ag–TiO 2 (up to 23 at.% Ag) cermet thin films and polycrystalline powders have been prepared by sol–gel process. Their structure, composition, surface morphology and optical properties have been investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), differential thermal analysis (DTA), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS) and ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy (UV–VIS spectroscopy). Preparation and Characterization of Nanostructured Fe-TiO2 Thin Films Produced by Electrophoretic Deposition

Fe-TiO2 thin films have been produced by a sol-electrophoretic deposition method on metallic Ti foil substrates. X-ray diffractograms and Raman spectra confirms the anatase structure of deposited and annealed Fe-TiO2 films. Obtained Fe-TiO2 thin films demonstrate photoactivity under visible light radiation due to the doping with Fe3+ ions. Open circuit potential results shows that increase of the film thickness and surface area improves the photoactivity of Fe-TiO2.
Photocatalytic thin films of TiO2 formed by a sol-gel process using titanium tetraisopropoxide as the precursor

Abstract Thin TiO 2 films were prepared with the dip-coating technique by using sols deriving from titanium tetraisopropoxide. TiO 2 films were formed on glass substrates previously covered by a SiO 2 layer obtained from a tetraethylortosilicate sol. The films, after a thermal treatment at 673 K, mainly consisted of TiO 2 anatase. The samples were characterised by X-ray diffraction, UV–Vis spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy. Phase formation in mixed TiO2-ZrO2 oxides prepared by sol-gel method

Pure titania, zirconia, and mixed oxides (3—37 mol.% of ZrO2) are prepared using the sol-gel method and calcined at different temperatures. The calcined samples are characterized by Raman spectroscopy, X-ray powder diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and nitrogen adsorption porosimetry. Measurements reveal a thermal stability of the titania anatase phase that slightly increases in the presence of 3—13 mol.% of zirconia. Practically, the titania anatase-rutile phase transformation is hindered during the temperature increase above 700 C.
