An arthritogenic alphavirus uses the α1β1 integrin collagen receptor

Ross River (RR) virus is an alphavirus endemic to Australia and New Guinea and is the aetiological agent of epidemic polyarthritis or RR virus disease. Here we provide evidence that RR virus uses the collagen-binding alpha1beta1 integrin as a cellular receptor. Infection could be inhibited by collagen IV and antibodies specific for the beta1 and alpha1 integrin proteins, and fibroblasts from alpha1-integrin-/- mice were less efficiently infected than wild-type fibroblasts. Soluble alpha1beta1 integrin bound immobilized RR virus, and peptides representing the alpha1beta1 integrin binding-site on collagen IV inhibited virus binding to cells. Abstract The spectrophotometric and thermodynamic properties of molecular complexes of flavine adenine dinucleotide (FAD) with some dihydro β-carboline derivatives have been investigated in aqueous solution. The molecular associations have been examined by means of electronic absorption spectra, since in each a new charge-transfer band has been located, and also the variation of the fluorescence emission of FAD on the solutions has been observed. The Fourier transform infrared spectra of Ac-(E)-deltaAbu-NHMe were analyzed to determine the predominant solution conformation(s) of this (E)-alpha,beta-dehydropeptide-related compound and the electron density perturbation in its amide groups. Dynamics of a harmonic oscillator coupled with a Glauber amplifier

A system of a quantum harmonic oscillator bi-linearly coupled with a Glauber amplifier is analysed considering a time-dependent Hamiltonian model. The Hilbert space of this system may be exactly subdivided into invariant finite dimensional subspaces. Resorting to the Jordan-Schwinger map, the dynamical problem within each invariant subspace may be traced back to an effective SU(2) Hamiltonian model expressed in terms of spin variables only. This circumstance allows to analytically solve the dynamical problem and thus to study the exact dynamics of the oscillator-amplifier system under specific time-dependent scenarios. Attraverso un’analisi dell’espressione ἁβρὰ παθεῖν nel frammento 24 W. di Solone e di alcune ricorrenze eschilee dei derivati della radice ἁβρ- (Pers. 41, 135, 541, 543, 1073, Ag. 690-1, 918-20) questo lavoro si inserisce nel dibattito critico esistente intorno alla nozione di ἁβροσύνη, alle implicazioni ad essa connesse in quanto segno di prestigio sociale, e ai modi in cui essa fu percepita nel contesto culturale ateniese del V secolo.
