Research perspectives for the study of Neandertal subsistence strategies based on the analysis of archaeozoological assemblages

Abstract The discipline of archaeozoology holds the potential to considerably contribute to knowledge about the social behaviour of Neandertals. However, the translation of proposed subsistence strategies into predictions about Neandertal social organisation still remains a challenge. The paper discusses the current state of archaeozoological research with respect to Neandertal subsistence. It is concluded that the methodological research focus in archaeozoology has shifted from its original holistic perspective to intensified/specialised studies of particular taphonomic components. Evolution of the taste of a bitter camembert cheese during ripening : characterization of a matrix effect

The objective of this study was to characterize the effect of ripening on the taste of a typically bitter Camembert cheese. The first step was to select a typically bitter cheese among several products obtained by different processes supposed to enhance this taste defect. Second, the evolution of cheese taste during ripening was characterized from a sensory point of view. Finally, the relative impact of fat, proteins, and water-soluble molecules on cheese taste was determined by using omission tests performed on a reconstituted cheese. The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of the components of a goat cheese water-soluble extract (WSE) on its flavor by both physicochemical and sensory techniques with special emphasis on taste. After characterization of the organoleptic properties of the cheese, the WSE was extracted with pure water and submitted to successive tangential ultrafiltrations and nanofiltration. The aim of this work was to determine the relative impact of water-soluble compounds on the gustatory properties of a goat cheese water-soluble extract (WSE). Using a semisynthetic model mixture (MWSE) previously elaborated in physicochemical and gustatory accordance with the cheese WSE (see part 1, Engel et al. J. Agric. Food Chem. 2000, 48, 4252-4259), omission tests were performed. ‘We Don't Question Whether We Can Do This’: Teacher Identity in Two Co-Teachers' Narratives

Through the concept of teacher identity, this article examines in detail the factors in the process through which the two teachers under study changed from traditional teachers into co-teaching professionals. The interview data were analysed by thematic narrative analysis. The results showed that the teachers' own attitudes, conflicts in their classrooms and experience of collaboration had created an idea of co-teaching. This idea, combined with a supportive school culture, resulted in the final solution — a shared classroom. A modified benzyloxycarbonyl (BOC) protective group, the 3,5-di-tert-butyl substituted BOC (3,5-tBBOC) group, was introduced to the stepwise synthesis of molecularly uniform oligourethanes based on 1,5-naphthalene diisocyanate (NDI) and 1,4-butanediol (BDO) for the protection of the amino functions of the starting material 1,5-naphthalene-diamine (NDA). The tert-butyl substituents of the 3,5-tBBOC group significantly improved the solubility of the intermediate products in the oligourethane synthesis. Self-assembled MgxZn1−xO quantum dots (0 ≤ x ≤ 1) on different substrates using spray pyrolysis methodology

By using the spray pyrolysis methodology in its classical configuration we have grown self-assembled MgxZn1−xO quantum dots (size [similar]4–6 nm) in the overall range of compositions 0 ≤ x ≤ 1 on c-sapphire, Si (100) and quartz substrates. Composition of the quantum dots was determined by means of transmission electron microscopy-energy dispersive X-ray analysis (TEM-EDAX) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Selected area electron diffraction reveals the growth of single phase hexagonal MgxZn1−xO quantum dots with composition 0 ≤ x ≤ 0.32 by using a nominal concentration of Mg in the range 0 to 45%.
