Modification of a commercial atomic force microscopy for low-noise, high-resolution frequency-modulation imaging in liquid environment.
2011
A key issue for high-resolution frequency-modulation atomic force microscopy imaging in liquids is minimizing the frequency noise, which requires a detailed analysis of the corresponding noise contributions. In this paper, we present a detailed description for modifying a commercial atomic force microscope (Bruker MultiMode V with Nanoscope V controller), aiming at atomic-resolution frequency-modulation imaging in ambient and in liquid environment. Care was taken to maintain the AFMs original stability and ease of operation. The new system builds upon an optimized light source, a new photodiode and an entirely new amplifier. Moreover, we introduce a home-built liquid cell and sample holder …
Non-homogeneous Dirichlet problems with concave-convex reaction
2022
The variational methods are adopted for establishing the existence of at least two nontrivial solutions for a Dirichlet problem driven by a non-homogeneous differential operator of p-Laplacian type. A large class of nonlinear terms is considered, covering the concave-convex case. In particular, two positive solutions to the problem are obtained under a (p -1)-superlinear growth at infinity, provided that a behaviour less than (p -1)-linear of the nonlinear term in a suitable set is requested.
Solutions with sign information for nonlinear Robin problems with no growth restriction on reaction
2019
We consider a parametric nonlinear Robin problem driven by a nonhomogeneous differential operator. The reaction is a Carathéodory function which is only locally defined (that is, the hypotheses concern only its behaviour near zero). The conditions on the reaction are minimal. Using variational tools together with truncation, perturbation and comparison techniques and critical groups, we show that for all small values of the parameter λ > 0, the problem has at least three nontrivial smooth solutions, two of constant sign and the third nodal.
Kymmenen Suomen parhaimmistoon kuuluvan keskimatkan (800-5000 metrin) miesjuoksijan juoksun taloudellisuutta mitattiin v…
Shape staggering of midshell mercury isotopes from in-source laser spectroscopy compared with density-functional-theory and Monte Carlo shell-model c…
2019
Neutron-deficient Hg177-185 isotopes were studied using in-source laser resonance-ionization spectroscopy at the CERN-ISOLDE radioactive ion-beam facility in an experiment combining different detection methods tailored to the studied isotopes. These include either α-decay tagging or multireflection time-of-flight gating for isotope identification. The endpoint of the odd-even nuclear shape staggering in mercury was observed directly by measuring for the first time the isotope shifts and hyperfine structures of Hg177-180. Changes in the mean-square charge radii for all mentioned isotopes, magnetic dipole, and electric quadrupole moments of the odd-A isotopes and arguments in favor of I=7/2 s…
Cytoplasmic parvovirus capsids recruit importin beta for nuclear delivery
2020
Parvoviruses are an important platform for gene and cancer therapy. Their cell entry and the following steps including nuclear import are inefficient limiting their use in therapeutic applications. Two models exist on parvoviral nuclear entry: classical import of the viral capsid using nuclear transport receptors of the importin (karyopherin) family, or direct attachment of the capsid to the nuclear pore complex leading to local disintegration of the nuclear envelope. Here, by laser scanning confocal microscopy and in situ proximity ligation analysis combined with co-immunoprecipitation we showed that infection requires importin β-mediated access into the nuclear pore complex and nucleopori…
