Localization of n-alcohols and structural effects in aqueous solutions of sodium dodecyl sulfate
1997
Small-angle neutron Mattering measurements OD sodium dodecyl sulfate aqueous solutions have been performed in the presence of n-alcohols, from methanol to octanol, at different alcohol concentrations. By modeling the experimental intensities, it was possible to obtain structural information and to derive simultaneously the distribution of the alcohols between the aqueous and the micellar phases. It was found that short chain alcohols tend to remain in the aqueous phase and, by altering the solvent properties, induce a decrease in the aggregation number of sodium dodecyl sulfate micelles. On the other hand, alcohols with longer hydrocarbon chains were found to be present in both phases thoug…
Absolutely continuous variational measures of Mawhin's type
2011
Abstract In this paper we study absolutely continuous and σ-finite variational measures corresponding to Mawhin, F- and BV -integrals. We obtain characterization of these σ-finite variational measures similar to those obtained in the case of standard variational measures. We also give a new proof of the Radon-Nikodým theorem for these measures.
Potential of human serum albumin as chiral selector of basic drugs in affinity electrokinetic chromatography-partial filling technique
2006
The enantiomeric resolution of compounds using HSA by means of affinity EKC (AEKC)-partial filling technique is the result of a delicate balance between different experimental variables such as protein concentration, running pH (background electrophoretic buffer (BGE), protein, and compound solutions), and plug length. In this paper, the possibility of using HSA as chiral selector for enantioseparation of 28 basic drugs using this methodology is studied. The effect of the physicochemical parameters, the structural properties of compounds, and compound-HSA protein binding percentages over their chiral resolution with HSA is outlined. Based on the results obtained, a decision tree is proposed…
Influence of PVP/VA copolymer composition on drug–polymer solubility
2015
In this study, the influence of copolymer composition on drug-polymer solubility was investigated. The solubility of the model drug celecoxib (CCX) in various polyvinylpyrrolidone/vinyl acetate (PVP/VA) copolymer compositions (70/30, 60/40, 50/50 and 30/70 w/w) and the pure homopolymers polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) and polyvinyl acetate (PVA) was predicted at 25 °C using a thermal analysis method based on the recrystallization of a supersaturated amorphous dispersion (recrystallization method). These solubilities were compared with a prediction based on the solubility of CCX in the liquid monomeric precursors of PVP/VA, N-vinylpyrrolidone (NVP) and vinyl acetate (VA), using the Flory-Huggins …
High Resolution CT Angiography in Detection of an Aneurysm of the Vein of Galen as a Source of Intracranial Haemorrhage in a Newborn.
2011
Cerebral haemorrhage is a rare condition in infants and carries a known poor prognosis. Common causes of spontaneous haemorrhage include various vascular venous lesions due to incomplete hydrovenous maturation, among them Galen vein aneurysm may be a very rare cause of cerebral haemorrhage. This report emphasizes the role of multidector CT with high resolution CT angiography in a newborn with cerebral hemorrhage caused by Galen vein aneurysm rupture. MDCT with high resolution CT angiography helps to differentiate the cause of haemorrhage, and to address the appropriate treatment.
Ion mobility spectrometry as a fast analytical tool in benzalkonium chloride homologs determination.
2017
Abstract A novel procedure is proposed for the determination by ion mobility spectrometry (IMS) of C 12 , C 14 and C 16 benzalkonium chloride (BAC) homologs. The proposed method requires minimum sample treatment and the measurement was made in less than one minute. A high sensitivity was obtained for BAC determination by IMS with limit of detection values from 37 to 69 µg L −1 . Accuracy of the proposed methodology was evaluated through the analysis of aqueous and alcoholic samples spiked with BAC at concentration levels from 0.002% to 20% (w/v), providing recovery values from 91% to 104%. BAC was determined in sanitary alcohols, nasal sprays, postharvest products, algaecides, and treated s…
Tolerability and efficacy of high-dose furosemide and small-volume hypertonic saline solution in refractory congestive heart failure
2000
Thirty patients aged 65-85 years, with refractory New York Heart Association (NYHA) class IV congestive heart failure (CHF) were treated with an intravenous infusion of furosemide (250-2000 mg/d) and small-volume hypertonic saline solution (150 mL of 1.4-4.6% NaCl) twice a day for 6 to 12 days. A daily fluid oral intake of 1000 mL and previous cardiac therapy were maintained. Clinical signs and symptoms of CHF, such as dyspnea, edema and weakness, improved, as did severity of illness as defined by NYHA class. The infusion was well tolerated. After a 12-month follow-up, 24 patients (80%) were alive and in the NYHA class assigned on discharge from the hospital. This therapeutic combination is…
Transformaciones multiescala no lineales
2013
Discrete multiresolution analysis and generalized wavelets. J. Appl. Numer. Math., 12:153–192 (1993)], generaliza un cierto tipo de wavelets bio…
High resolution Time of Flight determination based on reconfigurable logic devices for future PET/MR systems
2013
Abstract This contribution shows how to perform Time of Flight (TOF) measurements in PET systems using low-cost Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) devices with a resolution better of 100 ps. This is achieved with a proper management of the FPGA internal resources and with an extremely careful device calibration process including both temperature and voltage compensation. Preliminary results are reported.
FLEX End-to-End Mission Performance Simulator
2016
The FLuorescence EXplorer (FLEX) mission, selected as the European Space Agency's eighth Earth Explorer, aims to globally measure the sun-induced-chlorophyll-fluorescence spectral emission from terrestrial vegetation. In the frame of the FLEX mission, several industrial and scientific studies have analyzed the instrument design, image processing algorithms, or modeling aspects. At the same time, a common tool is needed to address the overall FLEX mission performance by combining all these features. For this reason, an end-to-end mission performance simulator has been developed for the FLEX mission (FLEX-E). This paper describes the FLEX-E software design, which combines the generation of co…
