Aging measurements with the gas electron multiplier (GEM)

2001

Abstract Continuing previous aging measurements with detectors based on the Gas Electron Multiplier (GEM), we investigated a 31×31 cm 2 triple-GEM detector, as used in the small area tracking of the COMPASS experiment at CERN. With a detector identical to those installed in the experiment, long-term high-rate exposures to 8.9 keV X-ray radiation were performed to study its aging properties. In standard operation conditions, with Ar/CO2 (70:30) gas filling and operated at an effective gain of 8.5×103, no change in gain and energy resolution is observed after collecting a total charge of 7 mC / mm 2 , corresponding to seven years of normal operation. This observation confirms previous results…

THE HYPERFINE STRUCTURE of the ROTATIONAL SPECTRUM of HDO and ITS EXTENSION to the THz REGION: ACCURATE REST FREQUENCIES and SPECTROSCOPIC PARAMETERS…

2015

The rotational spectrum of the mono-deuterated isotopologue of water, HD16O, has been investigated in the millimeter- and submillimeter-wave frequency regions, up to 1.6 THz. The Lamb-dip technique has been exploited to obtain sub-Doppler resolution and to resolve the hyperfine (hf) structure due to the deuterium and hydrogen nuclei, thus enabling the accurate determination of the corresponding hf parameters. Their experimental determination has been supported by high-level quantum-chemical calculations. The Lamb-dip measurements have been supplemented by Doppler-limited measurements (weak high-J and high-frequency transitions) in order to extend the predictive capability of the available s…

High-resolution study of Gamow-Teller transitions in the47Ti(3He,t)47V reaction

2013

In this work we have studied ${T}_{z}=+2\ensuremath{\rightarrow}+1$, Gamow-Teller (GT) transitions in the $^{48}\mathrm{Ti}(^{3}\mathrm{He},t)^{48}\mathrm{V}$ charge-exchange reaction at 140 MeV/nucleon and ${0}^{\ensuremath{\circ}}$ at the Research Center for Nuclear Physics, Osaka. From the high-resolution facility, consisting of a high-dispersion beamline and the Grand Raiden spectrometer, the spectrum had an energy resolution of 21 keV, among the best achieved. Individual GT transitions were observed and GT strength was derived for each state populated up to an excitation energy of 12 MeV. The total sum of the $B$(GT) strength observed in discrete states was 4.0, which is 33% of the sum…

Precision experiments with time-resolved Schottky mass spectrometry

2004

Abstract A large area on the mass surface of neutron-deficient nuclides (36≤Z≤85) was measured with time-resolved Schottky mass spectrometry at the FRS-ESR facilities. The masses of 114 nuclides were obtained for the first time from which 43 were determined via known decay energies. The improved mass accuracy of 30 keV allowed to study the isospin dependence of nuclear pairing, to precisely locate the one-proton dripline for odd-Z isotopes from Tb to Pa and to make crucial tests of the predictive powers of modern mass models.

Performance of the ATLAS silicon strip detector modules

1998

Abstract The performance of the silicon strip detector prototypes developed for use in ATLAS at the LHC is reported. Baseline detector assemblies (“modules”) of 12 cm length were read out with binary electronics at 40 MHz clock speed. For both irradiated and unirradiated modules, the tracking efficiency, noise occupancy, and position resolution were measured as a function of bias voltage, binary hit threshold, and detector rotation angle in a 1.56 T magnetic field. Measurements were also performed at a particle flux comparable to the one expected at the LHC.

Charge collection efficiency and resolution of an irradiated double-sided silicon microstrip detector operated at cryogenic temperatures

1999

Abstract This paper presents results on the measurement of the cluster shapes, resolution and charge collection efficiency of a double-sided silicon microstrip detector after irradiation with 24 GeV protons to a fluence of 3.5×10 14  p/cm 2 and operated at cryogenic temperatures. An empirical model is presented which describes the expected cluster shapes as a function of depletion depth, and is shown to agree with the data. It is observed that the clusters on the p-side broaden if the detector is under-depleted, leading to a degradation of resolution and efficiency. The model is used to make predictions for detector types envisaged for the LHC experiments. The results also show that at cryo…

Silicon detectors for forward tracking in ATLAS

1996

Abstract A 12 cm long silicon microstrip detector module with a fan geometry has been designed and constructed. The performance of the detector has been studied in a test beam at CERN. Results are presented on the hit efficiency and the position resolution as a function of position along the strips. With a hit efficiency of 99.5% and a spatial resolution of typically 35 μm the performance of these detectors exceeds that of other candidate technologies for the precision forward tracker of the ATLAS inner detector.
