This is the first of two parts investigating the Flory-Huggins interaction parameter, χ, as a function of composition and chain length. Part 1 encompasses experimental and theorical work. Combined effect of solvent content, temperature and pH on the chromatographic behaviour of ionisable compounds.

The organic solvent content and the pH in the mobile phase are the usual main factors in reversed-phase liquid chromatographic separations, owing to their strong effects on retention and/or selectivity. Temperature is often neglected. However, even in cases where the impact of this factor on selectivity is minor, the reduction in analysis time is still an interesting reason to consider it. Effect of different aqueous solutions of pure salts and salt mixtures in reverse electrodialysis systems for closed-loop applications

Abstract Reverse Electrodialysis (RED) in a closed-loop arrangement is a viable way to convert low-grade heat into electric power. The present work experimentally investigates the use of pure salt- and equimolar two salts-water solutions as feeds in a lab-scale RED unit. RED performances were analysed in terms of Open Circuit Voltage (OCV), stack resistance and corrected power density. The pure salts and the mixtures employed were chosen via a computational analysis. Abstract The extension of the formal kinetics of solid–gas reactions to solid–liquid dissolution is investigated theoretically. The work is based on modelling the dissolution of a solid in a closed system by a stoichiometrically simple chemical reaction A solid ⇄A liquid proceeding up to either an equilibrium state if the solid phase is initially in excess or exhaustion in the reverse situation. The initial amount of solid compared to the capacity of the liquid phase appears as a major factor of complexity. Cloud-point curves and critical curves (Tc = f(p)) have been measured for the system trans-decahydronaphthalene/polystyrene and three different molecular weights of the polystyrene component (2,5 · 106; 3,9 · 105; 1,1 · 105). It turned out that by variation of the pressure the metastable region can be investigated up to the spinodal curve. The graphical analysis of the impedance plots is used in the study of the electrodic systems that take place through two consecutive single electron transfers. The zinc anodic dissolution is studied by using this procedure. The characteristic points easily allow us to explain and to simulate the impedance behavior of this electrodic system according to the steady-state potential and the roughness of the working electrode. The direct procedure for parametrical identification from the graphical analysis allows us to reduce the time needed for an impedance experiment. This graphical analysis is suggested for studying thin coated galvanized steels.

Correlationship between microscopic observations and electrochemical behaviour of different kind of galvanized steel.

Zinc anodic dissolution has been studied according to the steel galvanized method by means of the electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and microscopic observations. Relevant information on the galvanized method is provided by the analysis of experimental data. The galvanized method has no influence on the kinetics parameters of the zinc anodic dissolution process. The galvanized method only changes the surface texture of the working electrode. Thus, the EIS fitting allows to calculate the fractal dimension of the surface of the working electrode.

Evaluation of the Effects of a Bullying at Work Intervention for Middle Managers.

The aim of the study is to evaluate the effects of a workplace bullying intervention based on the training of middle managers regarding bullying awareness, the consequences of bullying, strategies in conflict resolution and mediation/negotiation abilities. Overall, 142 randomly selected middle managers participated in the study. First, participants completed an information record and two scales assessing bullying strategies, role conflict and role ambiguity. The last two scales were completed again in a second phase three months after the intervention had finished.
