Plerixafor is effective and safe for stem cell mobilization in heavily pretreated germ cell tumor patients.

2010

Up to 10% of germ cell tumor patients require salvage high-dose chemotherapy with stem cell support, achieving cure rates in the range of 10-60%. Stem cell mobilization may be difficult in these patients because of multiple lines of treatment known to seriously hamper stem cell recovery. Plerixafor significantly enhances the success of the CD34+ cell harvest, even in cases where prior mobilization attempts have failed. Depth determination of skin cancers treated with superficial brachytherapy: ultrasound vs. histopathology

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to compare high frequency ultrasonography (HFUS) and histpathologic assessment done by punch biopsy in order to determine depth of basal cell carcinoma (BCC), in both superficial and nodular BCCs prior to brachytherapy treatment. Material and methods: This study includes 20 patients with 10 superficial and 10 nodular BCCs. First, punch biopsy was done to confirm the diagnosis and to measure tumour depth (Breslow rate). Subsequently, HFUS was done to measure tumour depth to search for correlation of these two techniques. Determination of the facial/oral alveolar crest using RF-echograms. An in vitro study on the periodontium of pigs.

Abstract This study is a part of a research project in which we have been investigating the use of the ultrasonic pulse echo technique as a means of determining in vivo the facial/oral alveolar crest precisely and routinely. Here, RF-echograms are presented, showing the facial/oral periodontium of pigs. These echograms have been produced using a focussed 20 MHz transducer and a special design of an ultrasonic measuring and analysis system. Ultrasonic B-scans of the facial/oral periodontium in pigs.

In vitro ultrasonic scans of the oral/facial periodontium of pigs were obtained using a special experimental design and with the help of a newly developed ultrasonic measuring and analysis system. These two-dimensional images distinguish themselves from the one-dimensional RF-echograms and A-scans in that they enable the viewer to have a quick overview of the relationship between different interfaces in a scanned sector. Abstract Objective: The objective of this study was to compare the measurement accuracy of A-mode and B-mode ultrasonographic assessments of palatal masticatory mucosal thickness in vivo. Study Design: Thickness of palatal masticatory mucosa in the molar region of 50 volunteers was measured once with a B-mode ultrasound device (10 MHz) combined with a standoff for intraoral applications.
