Improving Computing Systems Automatic Multiobjective Optimization Through Meta-Optimization
2016
This paper presents the extension of framework for automatic design space exploration (FADSE) tool using a meta-optimization approach, which is used to improve the performance of design space exploration algorithms, by driving two different multiobjective meta-heuristics concurrently. More precisely, we selected two genetic multiobjective algorithms: 1) non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm-II and 2) strength Pareto evolutionary algorithm 2, that work together in order to improve both the solutions’ quality and the convergence speed. With the proposed improvements, we ran FADSE in order to optimize the hardware parameters’ values of the grid ALU processor (GAP) micro-architecture from a b…
SMAA-TRI
2007
ELECTRE TRI is a multiple criteria decision aiding sorting method with a history of successful real-life applications. In ELECTRE TRI, values for certain parameters, such as criteria weights, thresholds, category profiles, and lambda cutting level, have to be provided. We propose a new method, SMAA-TRI, that is based on Stochastic Multicriteria Acceptability Analysis (SMAA), for analyzing the stability of such parameters. The stability analysis can be used for deriving robust conclusions. SMAATRI allows ELECTRE TRI to be used with imprecise, arbitrarily distributed values for weights and the lambda cutting level. The method consists of analyzing through Monte Carlo simulation finite spaces …
Designing Paper Machine Headbox Using GA
2003
Abstract A non-smooth biobjective optimization problem for designing the shape of a slice channel in a paper machine headbox is described. The conflicting goals defining the optimization problem are the ones determining important quality properties of produced paper: 1) basis weight should be even and 2) the wood fibers of paper should mainly be oriented to the machine direction across the width of the whole paper machine. The novelty of the considered approach is that maximum deviations are used instead of least squares when objective functions are formed. For the solution of this problem, a multiobjective genetic algorithm based on nondominated sorting is considered. The numerical results…
Catalan and Schröder permutations sortable by two restricted stacks
2020
Abstract Pattern avoiding machines were introduced recently by Claesson, Cerbai and Ferrari as a particular case of the two-stacks in series sorting device. They consist of two restricted stacks in series, ruled by a right-greedy procedure and the stacks avoid some specified patterns. Some of the obtained results have been further generalized to Cayley permutations by Cerbai, specialized to particular patterns by Defant and Zheng, or considered in the context of functions over the symmetric group by Berlow. In this work we study pattern avoiding machines where the first stack avoids a pair of patterns of length 3 and investigate those pairs for which sortable permutations are counted by the…
Direct sequencing of human gut virome fractions obtained by flow cytometry
2015
The sequence assembly of the human gut virome encounters several difficulties. A high proportion of human and bacterial matches is detected in purified viral samples. Viral DNA extraction results in a low DNA concentration, which does not reach the minimal limit required for sequencing library preparation. Therefore, the viromes are usually enriched by whole genome amplification, which is, however, prone to the development of chimeras and amplification bias. In addition, as there is a very wide diversity of gut viral species, very extensive sequencing efforts must be made for the assembling of whole viral genomes. We present an approach to improve human gut virome assembly by employing a mo…
Mannose-Decorated Multicomponent Supramolecular Polymers Trigger Effective Uptake into Antigen-Presenting Cells
2018
A modular route to prepare functional self-assembling dendritic peptide amphiphiles decorated with mannosides, to effectively target antigen-presenting cells, such as macrophages, is reported. The monomeric building blocks were equipped with tetra(ethylene glycol)s (TEGs) or labeled with a Cy3 fluorescent probe. Experiments on the uptake of the multifunctional supramolecular particles into murine macrophages (Mφs) were monitored by confocal microscopy and fluorescence-activated cell sorting. Mannose-decorated supramolecular polymers trigger a significantly higher cellular uptake and distribution, relative to TEG carrying bare polymers. No cytotoxicity or negative impact on cytokine producti…
The gut microbiota instructs the hepatic endothelial cell transcriptome
2021
Summary The gut microbiota affects remote organ functions but its impact on organotypic endothelial cell (EC) transcriptomes remains unexplored. The liver endothelium encounters microbiota-derived signals and metabolites via the portal circulation. To pinpoint how gut commensals affect the hepatic sinusoidal endothelium, a magnetic cell sorting protocol, combined with fluorescence-activated cell sorting, was used to isolate hepatic sinusoidal ECs from germ-free (GF) and conventionally raised (CONV-R) mice for transcriptome analysis by RNA sequencing. This resulted in a comprehensive map of microbiota-regulated hepatic EC-specific transcriptome profiles. Gene Ontology analysis revealed that …

Multivariate approach to reveal relationships between sensory perception of cheeses and aroma profile obtained with different extraction methods
2014
A new and original statistical approach was used to compare the effectiveness of 4 different methods to analyse aroma compounds of seven different commercial semi-hard cheeses with regard to their orthonasal sensory perception. Four extraction methods were evaluated: Purge and Trap, Artificial Mouth, Solid-Phase Microextraction (SPME) and Solvent-Assisted Flavour Evaporation (SAFE). Among the headspace methods, Artificial Mouth gave the closest representation of the studied product space to the sensory perception one. The SAFE method was complementary to the dynamic headspace methods, as it was very efficient in extracting the heavy molecules but less efficient for extracting the most volat…
Exosome A Clinical Compendium - Chapter 1: Exosome basic mechanisms
2019
Cell-cell communication plays a key role in maintaining homeostasis in multicellular organism. Cells communicate each other not only via the canonical pathways (cytokines, neurotransmitters, direct contact, ECM-mediated interactions or hormones) but also releasing extracellular vesicles that can reach different regions of the organism acting as a new “endocrine signalling mechanism”. Among extracellular vesicles, exosomes are emerging as efficient players to modulate target cells phenotype through the delivery to compliant receiving cells of a multitude of molecules such as mRNAs, microRNAs, long non-coding RNAs, DNA, lipids, metabolites and proteins. A deeper understanding of their content…
