Interorganisational Collaboration in a Norwegian Prison—Challenges and Opportunities Arising from Interagency Meetings
2021
AbstractIn prison, the provision of care and the surveillance of inmates takes place in multiple locations with several often contradictory demands. Inmates may experience a fragmentation of services because of the separate silos in which criminal justice service and mental health professionals work and the distinct ways of working that develop within these. A greater alignment between services is required. This chapter focuses on interagency meetings in a Norwegian prison. These are groups that aim to develop an holistic perspective of the inmate’s situation and problems, and are seen as an innovative way to overcome the contradiction between ‘treatment’ and ‘punishment’ prison paradigms a…
Perceived family cohesion, social support, and quality of life in patients undergoing treatment for substance use disorders compared with patients wi…
2021
Abstract Purpose Support from family and other social network elements can be important in helping patients to cope with practical and emotional consequences of diseases. The aim of the study was to examine perception of family and social support and quality of life (QoL) in patients undergoing treatment for substance use disorders (SUDs). We compared them with patients in treatment for mental disorders (MDs) and physical disorders (PDs). Methods We used data from a national multicenter study that recruited patients (N = 518) from three treatment domains; SUD treatment units, MD treatment units, and PD treatment units (severe neurological conditions or cancer). Data on family cohesion, so…
Peer Support for People Living With HIV: A Scoping Review
2021
Peer support for people living with HIV has gained increasing traction and is considered a way to take an active role in self-management. The existing research examining peer support interventions has reported promising evidence of the benefits of peer support. The purpose of our scoping review was to describe research on peer support for people living with HIV. We included 53 studies and sorted them into analytic categories and conducted descriptive analyses. The studies that were published between November/December 2000 and May 2021, had a range of study designs and heterogeneous priority groups, and included 20,657 participants from 16 countries. We identified 43 evaluations of the effe…
Dark consequences of social media-induced fear of missing out (FoMO): Social media stalking, comparisons, and fatigue
2021
Research on the dark side of social media usage has explored the fear of missing out (FoMO), social media fatigue (fatigue), social media stalking (stalking), and online social comparison (social comparison) independently. Accordingly, the complex interrelationships among these phenomena have remained understudied, creating a chasm that hinders a clearer understanding of their drivers and the potential counterstrategies to mitigate the collateral damage they may cause. We attempt to bridge this gap by drawing upon the theory of social comparison and the theory of compensatory internet use to formulate a framework that hypothesizes the mechanism of interaction among these negative fallouts. …
Social media users’ online subjective well-being and fatigue: A network heterogeneity perspective
2021
Scholars have drawn increasing attention to the implications of the dark side of social media for users’ online subjective well-being (OSWB). We develop a research framework based on the limited-capacity model to examine the relationship between OSWB and social media fatigue. Moreover, we explore the associations between specific aspects related to network heterogeneity and social media fatigue for social media users in the United States of America (USA). Further, we examine the mediating effect of network heterogeneity on the association between OSWB and social media fatigue. We utilised a cross-sectional research design to collect data from Prolific Academic (N = 320) and analysed the dat…
construction of a ‘traumatized’ refugee child in need of safety in Norwegian kindergartens
2022
This paper explores how kindergarten teachers relate to the concept of safety in the integration of refugee children. My research findings reveal that the concept of safety, or trygghet in Norwegian, is understood as emotional support and comfort accorded to children. The notion of trygghet emerges as an important value-laden concept that shapes and largely influences teachers’ everyday work, and how they relate to children and their parents. The idea of safety is traceable within an institutional discourse mediated by social technology, such as the International Child Development Programme and the Resource Centre for Violence and Trauma programmes, which have their roots in psy-discourses.…
Pohjoismaisen Vastarintaliikkeen kieltäminen ja sen seuraukset
2020
Kansallissosialistisen Pohjoismaisen Vastarintaliikkeen toiminta on kielletty Suomessa. Järjestö vaikuttaa reagoineen kieltoon perustamalla uusia ryhmiä sekä hajauttamalla toimintaansa. Tulevan kehityksen kannalta merkityksellistä on, millaisia johtopäätöksiä viranomaiset tekevät järjestön kieltämisestä, sekä miten he reagoivat mahdollisiin yrityksiin jatkaa järjestön toimintaa. nonPeerReviewed
Citizen-Patient Involvement in the Development of mHealth Technology: Protocol for a Systematic Scoping Review
2020
Background The development of mobile technology for information retrieval and communication, both at individual and health organizational levels, has been extensive over the last decade. Mobile health (mHealth) technology is rapidly adapting to the health care service contexts to improve treatment, care, and effectiveness in health care services. Objective The overall aim of this scoping review is to explore the role of citizen-patient involvement in the development of mHealth technology in order to inform future interventions. By identifying key characteristics of citizen-patient involvement in system development, we aim to improve digital communication and collaboration between health ca…
How are ICTs used as tools in raising public awareness, and what makes them effective : a case study of the work of ODPEM in Kingston, Jamaica
2013
Master thesis development management- University of Agder 2013 The last couple of decades the world has seen an incredible development within the field of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). Not only has the number and quality of ICTs increased, but also its reach, penetration and the amount of new and different ICTs. It is also increasingly a part of everyday lives in most countries of the world. Simultaneously to this development there has been an increase in disasters and the loss of livelihoods and lives due to them. The disasters are affecting poor and developing countries disproportionally due to their vulnerability. Hence incorporating disaster management into the devel…
