Genome-wide characterization of chromatin binding and nucleosome spacing activity of the nucleosome remodelling ATPase ISWI.

2010

The evolutionarily conserved ATP-dependent nucleosome remodelling factor ISWI can space nucleosomes affecting a variety of nuclear processes. In Drosophila, loss of ISWI leads to global transcriptional defects and to dramatic alterations in higher-order chromatin structure, especially on the male X chromosome. In order to understand if chromatin condensation and gene expression defects, observed in ISWI mutants, are directly correlated with ISWI nucleosome spacing activity, we conducted a genome-wide survey of ISWI binding and nucleosome positioning in wild-type and ISWI mutant chromatin. Our analysis revealed that ISWI binds both genic and intergenic regions. Remarkably, we found that ISWI…

Cultivation of Dill (Anethum graveolens L.) with Different Row Arrangements

2011

Dill (Anethum graveolens L.) is an annual plant from the Umbelliferae. Although in cookery also sprouts and tender leaves are used, the drug from dill is represented by the scented fruits (“seeds”), largely used for flavouring conserved foods and liqueurs, but also by the herbal and cosmetic industry. In this work, we present the results of a trial performed in Sicily, putting under comparison four different row arrangements: CR30 (continuous rows 30 cm apart), CR60 (continuous rows 60 cm apart), CR90 (continuous rows 90 cm apart) and TR (twin rows with a distance of 30 cm inside and 60 cm between twin rows). The plant population on the row (12 plants m-1) was constant and according the row…

Domestic vs. International correlations of interest rate maturities

2010

The association between long and short interest rates is traditionally envisaged from a purely domestic perspective, where it is believed an empirical regularity. Hence, the weakening of this relationship in the first half of the 2000s has represented a conundrum, calling for a reassessment of the term structure and the conduct of monetary policy. Some commentators have called for investigations into the international dimension of this puzzle. Hence, in this paper we employ recent advances in panel data econometrics to investigate the co-movement of interest rate maturities both at the domestic and international levels for a sample of industrial countries. Specifically, we use the Ng (2006)…

Ordering effects in extreme high-resolution depth profiling with MeV ion beams

2012

Abstract The continuing development of depth profiling with MeV ion beam methods with depth resolutions in the nanometre, and even sub-nanometre, regime implies the resolved depth become comparable with the interatomic spacing. To investigate how short-range ordering influences depth profiles at these resolutions, we have employed a mathematical modelling approach. The radial, g ( r ) and depth distribution, g ( z ) functions were calculated for (1 0 0) surface, random and amorphous Si structures at 300 K produced using molecular dynamics simulations with the EDIP quasi-empirical potential. The results showed that short-range ordering lead to reduction of the scattering yield below the deep…

Process studies of organizational space

2020

The past decade has experienced an increase in the number of studies on organizational space or where work occurs. A number of these studies challenge traditional views of organizational space as a fixed, physical workspace because researchers fail to account for the spatial dynamics that they observe. New technologies, shifting employee-employer relations, and burgeoning expectations of the contemporary workforce blur boundaries between home and work, connect people and things that historically could not be linked, and extend workspaces to nearly everywhere, not just office buildings. Research on these transformations calls for incorporating movement into the physicality of work. Thus, org…

Universality of level spacing distributions in classical chaos

2007

Abstract We suggest that random matrix theory applied to a matrix of lengths of classical trajectories can be used in classical billiards to distinguish chaotic from non-chaotic behavior. We consider in 2D the integrable circular and rectangular billiard, the chaotic cardioid, Sinai and stadium billiard as well as mixed billiards from the Limacon/Robnik family. From the spectrum of the length matrix we compute the level spacing distribution, the spectral auto-correlation and spectral rigidity. We observe non-generic (Dirac comb) behavior in the integrable case and Wignerian behavior in the chaotic case. For the Robnik billiard close to the circle the distribution approaches a Poissonian dis…

Shape analysis of the level-spacing distribution around the metal-insulator transition in the three-dimensional Anderson model

1995

We present a new method for the numerical treatment of second order phase transitions using the level spacing distribution function $P(s)$. We show that the quantities introduced originally for the shape analysis of eigenvectors can be properly applied for the description of the eigenvalues as well. The position of the metal--insulator transition (MIT) of the three dimensional Anderson model and the critical exponent are evaluated. The shape analysis of $P(s)$ obtained numerically shows that near the MIT $P(s)$ is clearly different from both the Brody distribution and from Izrailev's formula, and the best description is of the form $P(s)=c_1\,s\exp(-c_2\,s^{1+\beta})$, with $\beta\approx 0.…

Collision-induced polarization scattering of dispersion managed solitons

2005

Using a multiscale expansion of coupled nonlinear Schrodinger equations we study the role of map strength and channel spacing for two colliding solitons. We numerically study then the depolarization caused by collisions of dispersion-managed vector solitons.
