In inverse dynamics computations, the accuracy of the solution strongly depends on the accuracy of the input data. In particular, estimated joint moments are highly sensitive to uncertainties in acceleration data. The aim of the present work was to improve classical inverse dynamics computations by providing an accurate estimation of accelerations. Optimization of fluorescence enhancement for silicon-based microarrays

An optical technique for the enhancement of fluorescence detection sensitivity on planar samples is presented. Such a technique is based on the simultaneous optimization of excitation and light collection by properly combining interference and reflectance from the sample holder. Comparative tests have been performed in microarray applications, by evaluating the proposed solution against commercial glass-based devices, using popular labeling dyes, such as Cy3 and Cy5. The proposed technique is implemented on a substrate built with standard silicon technology and is therefore well suited for integrated micro total analysis systems (microTAS) applications.

Cajaninstilbene acid (CSA; 3-hydroxy-4-prenyl-5-methoxystilbene-2-carboxylic acid) is a major active constituent of pigeonpea leaves, has been proven to be effective in clinical treatment of diabetes, hepatitis, measles and dysentery. Structure and Matrix Isolation Infrared Spectrum of Formyl Fluoride Dimer:  Blue-Shift of the C−H Stretching Frequency

Infrared spectroscopy (IR) of formyl fluoride (HCOF) dimer is studied in low-temperature argon and krypton matrixes. New IR absorptions, ca. 17 cm(-1) blue shifted from the monomer C-H stretching fundamental, are assigned to the HCOF dimer. New tyrosinase inhibitors selected by atomic linear indices-based classification models.

In the present report, the use of the atom-based linear indices for finding functions that discriminate between the tyrosinase inhibitor compounds and inactive ones is presented. In this sense, discriminant models were applied and globally good classifications of 93.51% and 92.46% were observed for non-stochastic and stochastic linear indices best models, respectively, in the training set. The external prediction sets had accuracies of 91.67% and 89.44%. In addition, these fitted models were used in the screening of new cycloartane compounds isolated from herbal plants. The enterotoxin from Clostridium difficile (ToxA) is one of the causative agents of the antibiotic-associated pseudomembranous colitis. In cultured monolayer cells ToxA exhibits cytotoxic activity to induce disassembly of the actin cytoskeleton, which is accompanied by morphological changes. ToxA-induced depolymerization of actin filaments is correlated with a decrease in the ADP-ribosylation of the low molecular mass GTP-binding Rho proteins (Just, I., Selzer, J., von Eichel-Streiber, C., and Aktories, K. The Dnmt2 RNA methyltransferase homolog of Geobacter sulfurreducens specifically methylates tRNA-Glu

Dnmt2 enzymes are conserved in eukaryotes, where they methylate C38 of tRNA-Asp with high activity. Here, the activity of one of the very few prokaryotic Dnmt2 homologs from Geobacter species (GsDnmt2) was investigated. GsDnmt2 was observed to methylate tRNA-Asp from flies and mice. Unexpectedly, it had only a weak activity toward its matching Geobacter tRNA-Asp, but methylated Geobacter tRNA-Glu with good activity. In agreement with this result, we show that tRNA-Glu is methylated in Geobacter while the methylation is absent in tRNA-Asp. Numerical expressions for the computation of coincidence-summing correction factors in γ-ray spectrometry with HPGe detectors

Numerical expressions to compute gamma-gamma and gamma-X(K) coincidence summing corrections were deduced by using a suitable computer program and a matrix representation of a decay scheme. For point sources only full-energy peak and total efficiencies are needed. Alternatively, values of peak-to-total ratio can be introduced. For extended sources, the same expressions can be considered with the introduction of "effective efficiencies". Examples of the use of the expressions for point sources and a particulate filter sample measured with a 60% relative efficiency HPGe detector are reported.
