Probing human beta1- and beta2 -adrenoceptors with domain-specific fusion protein antibodies.

In order to generate antibodies suitable for immunological studies on beta-adrenoceptors constitutively expressed at low levels in cells or tissues we have produced fusion proteins of the amino- and carboxy-terminus, and the second extracellular loop of the human beta 1- or beta 2-adrenoceptors with bacterial glutathione-S-transferase in E. coli. Rabbit antibodies raised against these fusion proteins strongly reacted with intact human beta 1- or beta 2-adrenoceptors in a subtype- and domain-specific manner. Development of type-specific and cross-reactive serological probes for the minor capsid protein of human papillomavirus type 33.

Human papillomavirus type 33 (HPV33) is associated with malignant tumors of the cervix. In an attempt to develop immunological probes for HPV33 infections, antisera against various bacterial fusion proteins carrying sequences of the minor capsid protein encoded by L2 were raised in animals. Antigenic determinants on the HPV33 L2 protein were identified by using truncated fusion proteins and were classified as type specific or cross-reactive with respect to HPV1, -8, -11, -16, and -18. Cross-reactive epitopes map to amino acids 98 to 107 or to amino acids 102 to 112 and 107 to 117, respectively, depending on the fusion protein used for immunization. Cross-Reactivity of Antibodies Immunoadsorbed to Laminin with Recombinant Human La (SS-B) Protein

Anti-La (SS-B) antibodies cross-reacting with mouse B1 laminin were reported in sera of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus. However, the common epitope had not been characterized. Immunoblotting conditions were established, allowing detection and elution of anti-La (SS-B)/laminin cross-reacting antibodies. Antibodies adsorbed to mouse B1 laminin represented a subclass of anti-La antibodies. They strongly reacted with human full length recombinant La protein. This paper reviews an ongoing debate about moral standards for vocational education in German speaking countries. The ecological success of a social parasite increases with manipulation of collective host behaviour.

Many parasites alter the behaviour of their host to their own advantage, yet hosts often vary in their susceptibility to manipulation. The ecological and evolutionary implications of such variation can be profound, as resistant host populations may suffer lower parasite pressures than those susceptible to manipulation. To test this prediction, we assessed parasite-induced aggressive behaviours across 16 populations of two Temnothorax ant species, many of which harbour the slavemaker ant Protomognathus americanus. Abstract Aliphatic and triterpene alcohols present in vegetable oils have been identified and determined by HPLC using UV–vis and MS detection after previous derivatization with diphenic anhydride. The alcoholic fraction was obtained by saponification, extraction and TLC (according to the European Union official procedure). Derivatization was performed in tetrahydrofuran in the presence of suspended grinded urea, which increases the reaction rate and yield. In situ localization of the Antennapedia gene on the chromosomes of nine Drosophila species of the obscura group.

The homeotic Antennapedia gene, cloned from the genomic DNA of D. subobscura, was localized on the polytene chromosomes of nine species of the Drosophila obscura group. In all of them, the probe used hybridized on chromosomes equivalent to the E element of Muller's terminology. These results are consistent with the idea that single copy genes do not move around the genome and that chromosomal elements have conserved their genetic identity during evolution.

Cloning of a novel putative G-protein-coupled receptor (NLR) which is expressed in neuronal and lymphatic tissue.

AbstractA novel G-protein-coupled receptor was isolated from mouse and rat neuronal and lymphatic tissues. The amino acid sequence of the rat receptor (rNLR) shows an overall homology of 80% to a recently cloned receptor from Burkitt's lymphoma cells (BLR1) which is exclusively expressed in lymphatic tissues [(1992) Eur. J. Immunol. 22, 2795]. Much less homology between rNLR and BLR1 was observed at the N-terminus (about 40%), whereas rNLR and the mouse homologue mNLR show 92% amino acid identity.
