The photon tagging facility at the Saskatchewan Accelerator Laboratory

1993

Abstract A photon tagging facility has been constructed for use with the c.w. electron beam at the Saskatchewan Accelerator Laboratory (SAL). The facility consists of a “clam-shell” type magnetic spectrometer with a 62 channel plastic scintillator focal plane detector allowing a post-bremsstrahlung electron energy resolution of 1%. Specialized focal plane and coincidence electronics have been designed and constructed at SAL and allows experiments to be performed with average tagged photon rates of greater than 1 × 108/s.

In-beam electron spectrometer used in conjunction with a gas-filled recoil separator

2004

The conversion-electron spectrometer SACRED has been redesigned for use in conjunction with the RITU gas-filled recoil separator. The system allows in-beam recoil-decay-tagging (RDT) measurements of internal conversion electrons. The performance of the system using standard sources and in-beam is described.

Identification of excited states in 167Os and 168Os: shape coexistence at extreme neutron deficiency

2001

Excited states in the very neutron-deficient isotopes Os-167 and Os-168 have been observed using the reaction Sn-112(Ni-58, 2pxn). The JUROSPHERE gamma -ray spectrometer array was used in conjuncti ...

Physics at the electron accelerator MAMI

1995

Abstract An overview of physics at the Mainz Microtron facility MAMI is given. After a short description of the essential parameters of the accelerator, selected results of three different collaborations A1, A2, and A3, each centered around one major experimental facility, are presented. The A1 collaboration has installed a setup of three large acceptance magnetic spectrometers. Results presented are high momentum components (pm ≤ 700MeV/c) in 16O(e, e′p), L T separation and LT interference structure functions in p(e, e′π+), and angular distribution of p(e, e′p)π0 at π0 threshold. The A2 collaboration has installed a broad band tagger for experiments with nonpolarized and polarized photons.…

Evidence for oblate structure inPb186

2005

In-beam $\ensuremath{\gamma}\ensuremath{\gamma}$ coincidence data have been collected for $^{186}\mathrm{Pb}$ by combining the JUROGAM Ge-detector array and the GREAT spectrometer with the RITU gas-filled recoil separator for recoil-decay tagging measurements. In addition to the known prolate yrast band in $^{186}\mathrm{Pb}$, these data have enabled a new low-lying side band to be identified. Based on the analysis of its decay pattern and comparison with Interacting Boson Model (IBM) calculations, the new band is associated with an oblate shape.

Energy calibration and monitoring of the KATRIN experiment

2011

A new high precision voltage divider has been built for monitoring the analysing potential of the KATRIN main spectrometer. In addition a condensed 83mKr calibration source has been set up at the modified 1 eV resolving Mainz spectrometer, our measurements show that energy calibration and monitoring for KATRIN is feasible at the few ppm level.

Very Low Energy Protons From the Beta Decay of Proton Rich Nuclei For Nuclear Astrophysics

2010

The MARS group at TAMU has developed a new experimental technique to measure very low energy protons from β-delayed proton-decay of proton-rich nuclei produced and separated with the MARS recoil spectrometer at TAMU. Recently we have investigated the β-delayed p-decays of 23Al [1], and 31Cl [2], and obtained information on the resonances in the 22Na(p,γ)23Mg and 30P(p,γ) 31S reactions, respectively. These reactions are important in explosive H-burning in Novae [3]. Recently an experiment looking at the β-delayed p-decay of 20Mg was also done in order to obtain information on resonances in the 19Ne(p,γ)20Na reaction. A simple setup consisting of a telescope made of a thin double sided Si str…

Physics at MAMI

2008

The Mainz Microtron MAMI has delivered a high quality electron beam with maximum energy of 880MeV for many years. Recently the MAMI C stage with its maximum energy of 1.5GeV was put into operation successfully and is delivering beam routinely now. The A1 collaboration is doing electron scattering experiments with a “Three Spectrometer Setup”. A first experiment using the MAMI C beam to measure the “Recoil polarisation and beam-recoil double polarisation of eta electroproduction on the proton in the region of the S11(1535) resonance” has been finished. A new, very compact magnetic spectrometer (KaoS) suitable especially for the detection of kaons is being installed now. The A2 collaboration …

Hypernuclear Spectroscopy with Electron Beams

2011

A Λ-hyperon bound to a nuclear core, forming a hypernuclei, is a unique probe of the interior of hadronic many-body systems. Only recently, the spectroscopy of Λ-hypernuclei with electron beams was realized. Today, two places worldwide offer the possibility to study hypernuclei with high intensity continuous electron beams: MAMI at Mainz, Germany, and Jefferson Lab (JLab), Virginia. At least two different techniques exist for such studies: reaction spectroscopy, which requires two high-resolution spectrometers, one for kaons and one for the scattered electrons, and decay particle spectroscopy of hyperfragments. In the latter case a strangeness tagger in forward direction is of great advanta…

Die elektronenstreu-apparatur am mainzer 300 MeV-elektronen-linearbeschleuniger

1972

Abstract In this paper, we attempt to give a general survey and a comprehensive description of the most significant features of the facilities for electron scattering experiments at the Mainz 300 MeV Linear Accelerator, along with a list of literature, where more detailed information on certain subjects can be found. The accelerator provides energies between 80 and 300 MeV. Scattering angles are available up to 160° resulting in a momentum transfer region up to 3.0 fm −1 . The overall experimental resolution is 0.1%. Cross sections down to 10 −34 cm 2 /sr can be measured. The main features of the apparatus are: an achromatic magnet system with 90° deflection, a double focusing spectrometer,…
