Parenting Stress in Families of Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and ADHD

2015

The purpose of this study was to compare the parenting stress experienced by parents of 121 children from 5 to 9 years old with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), comorbid ASD+ADHD, and typical development in different domains related to child and parent characteristics using the Parenting Stress Index. The three clinical groups presented greater perceived parenting stress than did the comparison group (CG). The ADHD group obtained higher levels of parenting stress related to attachment and depression than did the other groups. The ASD+ADHD group presented a unique profile of differences from the CG on Health and Spouse subscales. Results highl…

On the Fučík spectrum of the p-Laplacian with no-flux boundary condition

2023

In this paper, we study the quasilinear elliptic problem \begin{align*} \begin{aligned} -\Delta_{p} u&= a\l(u^+\r)^{p-1}-b\l(u^-\r)^{p-1} \quad && \text{in } \Omega,\\ u & = \text{constant} &&\text{on } \partial\Omega,\\ 0&=\int_{\partial \Omega}\left|\nabla u\right|^{p-2}\nabla u\cdot \nu \,\diff \sigma,&& \end{aligned} \end{align*} where the operator is the $p$-Laplacian and the boundary condition is of type no-flux. In particular, we consider the Fu\v{c}\'{\i}k spectrum of the $p$-Laplacian with no-flux boundary condition which is defined as the set $\fucik$ of all pairs $(a,b)\in\R^2$ such that the problem above has a nontrivial solution. It turns out…

Modeling and Performance Analysis of Channel Assembling in Multichannel Cognitive Radio Networks With Spectrum Adaptation

2012

[EN] To accommodate spectrum access in multichannel cognitive radio networks (CRNs), the channel-assembling technique, which combines several channels together as one channel, has been proposed in many medium access control (MAC) protocols. However, analytical models for CRNs enabled with this technique have not been thoroughly investigated. In this paper, two representative channel-assembling strategies that consider spectrum adaptation and heterogeneous traffic are proposed, and the performance of these strategies is evaluated based on the proposed continuous-time Markov chain (CTMC) models. Moreover, approximations of these models in the quasistationary regime are analyzed, and closed-fo…

Performance analysis of underlay two-way relay cooperation in cognitive radio networks with energy harvesting

2018

Abstract Cognitive radio and energy harvesting are two important approaches to solve the problem of spectrum scarcity and energy constraint in wireless communications. In this work, we study a two-way relay cooperation scheme in underlay cognitive radio networks (CRNs) with energy harvesting in which two secondary users exchange information via an energy harvesting relay node. Since the relay node collects energy from the received signals and utilizes it to forward the information, the secondary transmission power can be markedly reduced. Therefore the interference of the secondary network to the primary network can be substantially reduced. We derive the outage probability of the secondary…

Sorting of Single Biomolecules based on Fourier Polar Representation of Surface Enhanced Raman Spectra

2016

AbstractSurface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) spectroscopy becomes increasingly used in biosensors for its capacity to detect and identify single molecules. In practice, a large number of SERS spectra are acquired and reliable ranking methods are thus essential for analysing all these data. Supervised classification strategies, which are the most effective methods, are usually applied but they require pre-determined models or classes. In this work, we propose to sort SERS spectra in unknown groups with an alternative strategy called Fourier polar representation. This non-fitting method based on simple Fourier sine and cosine transforms produces a fast and graphical representation for sor…

Enhancing HSUPA system level performance with dual carrier capability

2010

The purpose of this paper is to analyze how dual carrier capability can enhance High Speed Uplink Packet Access performance in comparison to using only single carrier. Dual carrier operation gives the User Equipment the possibility to transmit simultaneously using two 5 MHz bands, theoretically doubling the peak data rates and user throughput. The analysis is conducted with a system level simulation tool. This paper first indicates with single carrier simulations that, especially in small cells, terminals have spare power available for dual carrier operation. These observations are verified with dual carrier simulations by showing that the burst throughput can be practically doubled. In the…

Boolean Networks: A Primer

2021

Abstract Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASDs) stand out as a relevant example where omics-data approaches have been extensively and successfully employed. For instance, an outstanding outcome of the Autism Genome Project relies in the identification of biomarkers and the mapping of biological processes potentially implicated in ASDs’ pathogenesis. Several of these mapped processes are related to molecular and cellular events (e.g., synaptogenesis and synapse function, axon growth and guidance, etc.) that are required for the development of a correct neuronal connectivity. Interestingly, these data are consistent with results of brain imaging studies of some patients. Despite these remarkable pr…

SMART-ASD, model and ontology definition: a technology recommendation system for people with autism and/or intellectual disabilities

2018

There are many studies that encourage the use of mobile device solutions to improve the skills of people with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). There are a number of apps that may be useful for people with ASD, some specifically designed for them, and others not. The main goal of the SMART-ASD project is to assist in the selection of adequate technology and all related accessories. In this project, the users' data are maintained into an ontology. This ontology also includes information about devices, apps, and protection. The system is a hybrid recommendation system that guides parents and professionals in the selection of the adequate technology. This paper presents the SMART-ASD model an…
