Aspetti penalistici del discorso pubblico
2008
The Limits to Free Speech on Social Media : On Two Recent Decisions of the Supreme Court of Norway
2020
In January 2020, two persons in Norway were condemned by a unanimous Supreme Court of Norway for comments posted on ‘closed’ Facebook groups. With the two decisions, the Supreme Court confirmed for the first time the boundaries of hateful, racist, and discriminatory speech in the context of online utterances in social media. It also established a new sanctioning standard for hate speech. Paid Open Access UNIT agreement
The Duty to Punish Racial Hate v. Freedom of Expression: Looking for a Fair Balance in the Domestic Implementation of CERD Obligations

Information disorder. Learning to recognize fake news
2022
The advent of the internet and digital platforms has revolutionised the way information is produced and disseminated. The aim of this paper was to examine whether it is possible to draw from Article 21 of the Italian Constitution that there is a right to good information, as an expression of the rights to be informed and to receive information. It also looked at what form of regulation is possible for the dissemination of information on the Web in order to ensure that it is true, objective, and unbiased and whether public- only regulation, private- only regulation or a form of co- regulation, which seems to be model chosen in the EU’s draft Regulation, the so- called Digital Services Act, i…
The proportionality of limitations of freedom of expression in the context of suppression of terrorism under the Council of Europe Convention on the …
2021
The aim of this thesis is to evaluate the equilibrium between the suppression of incitement of terrorism and the rights of freedom of expression, established by the Council of Europe. Freedom of expression is an important element for a democratic society. Nevertheless, states are under an obligation to ensure the right to life of people within their jurisdiction. Recognising the devastating effect of violent terrorist attacks, the Council of Europe in 2005 adopted the Convention on the Prevention of Terrorism, which was the first legal instrument imposing an obligation on the State Parties to penalise incitement (provocation) of terrorism. The paramount importance in the Convention is devot…
Hearing Voices in Dreams: Freud's Tossing and Turning with Speech and Writing
2002
In The Interpretation of Dreams, Freud repeatedly claims that there is no original speech in dreams. All dreamed speech is lifted from waking life and used as mutable raw material, whereas thought and writing can occur independently of the dream-work. This article examines Freud's insistence of the unoriginality and mutability of speech, which ostensibly reverses the supposed phonocentric tradition of Western metaphysics. Freud's interpretations, the article suggests, point to the importance of a general linguistic system in the production of meaning in dreams. This system includes non-phonetic writing and the concretization of abstract dream-thoughts into visual images. This concretization…
From Nerode's congruence to Suffix Automata with mismatches
2009
AbstractIn this paper we focus on the minimal deterministic finite automaton Sk that recognizes the set of suffixes of a word w up to k errors. As first result we give a characterization of the Nerode’s right-invariant congruence that is associated with Sk. This result generalizes the classical characterization described in [A. Blumer, J. Blumer, D. Haussler, A. Ehrenfeucht, M. Chen, J. Seiferas, The smallest automaton recognizing the subwords of a text, Theoretical Computer Science, 40, 1985, 31–55]. As second result we present an algorithm that makes use of Sk to accept in an efficient way the language of all suffixes of w up to k errors in every window of size r of a text, where r is the…
Homozygous Truncating Intragenic Duplication in TUSC3 Responsible for Rare Autosomal Recessive Nonsyndromic Intellectual Disability with No Clinical …
2014
Intellectual disability (ID), which affects around 2–3% of the general population, is classically divided into syndromic and nonsyndromic forms, with several modes of inheritance. Nonsyndromic autosomal recessive ID (NS-ARID) appears extremely heterogeneous with numerous genes identified to date, including inborn errors of metabolism. The TUSC3 gene encodes a subunit of the endoplasmic reticulum (ER)-bound oligosaccharyltransferase complex, which mediates a key step of N-glycosylation. To date, only five families with NS-ARID and TUSC3 mutations or rearrangements have been reported in the literature. All patients had speech delay, moderate-to-severe ID, and moderate facial dysmorphism. Micr…
Understanding Romanian Texts by Using Gamification Methods
2019
Abstract In recent years, there has been increasing interest in the field of natural language processing. Determining which syntactic function is right for a specific word is an important task in this field, being useful for a variety of applications like understanding texts, automatic translation and question-answering applications and even in e-learning systems. In the Romanian language, this is an even harder task because of the complexity of the grammar. The present paper falls within the field of “Natural Language Processing”, but it also blends with other concepts such as “Gamification”, “Social Choice Theory” and “Wisdom of the Crowd”. There are two main purposes for developing the a…
Sprachentwicklungsstörungen bei Kindern
2009
