A compact linear Paul trap cooler buncher for CRIS
2020
A gas-filled linear Paul trap for the Collinear Resonance Ionisation Spectroscopy (CRIS) experiment at ISOLDE, CERN is currently under development. The trap is designed to accept beam from both ISOLDE target stations and the CRIS stable ion source. The motivation for the project along with the current design, simulations and future plans, will be outlined. peerReviewed
Measurements of Thermal and Resonance Neutron Fluence and Induced Radioactivity Inside Bunkers of Medical Linear Accelerators in the Center of Oncolo…
2016
Emission of high-energy X-ray and electron therapeutic beams from medical linear accelerators is related to undesirable neutron production and to induction of radioactivity. In this work, measurements of thermal and resonance neutron fluence and induced radioactivity were performed inside two bunkers with medical linacs — Elekta in the Center of Oncology in Opole (Poland). The bunkers differ with a construction of their walls. The neutron measurements were performed by means of the induced activity method during emission of the 18 MV X-ray beam. The investigation of radioactivity induced by neutrons was based on the method of off-line gammaray spectroscopy measurements. This work has shown …
Isomer and decay studies for the rp process at IGISOL
2012
This article reviews the decay studies of neutron-deficient nuclei within the mass region \ensuremathA=56--100 performed at the Ion-Guide Isotope Separator On-Line (IGISOL) facility in the University of Jyväskylä over last 25 years. Development from He-jet measurements to on-line mass spectrometry, and eventually to atomic mass measurements and post-trap spectroscopy at IGISOL, has yielded studies of around 100 neutron-deficient nuclei over the years. The studies form a solid foundation to astrophysical rp -process path modelling. The focus is on isomers studied either via spectroscopy or via Penning-trap mass measurements. The review is complemented with recent results on the ground and is…
JYFLTRAP: a Penning trap for precision mass spectroscopy and isobaric purification
2012
In this article a comprehensive description and performance of the double Penning-trap setup JYFLTRAP will be detailed. The setup is designed for atomic mass measurements of both radioactive and stable ions and additionally serves as a very high-resolution mass separator. The setup is coupled to the IGISOL facility at the accelerator laboratory of the University of Jyväskylä. The trap has been online since 2003 and it was shut down in the summer of 2010 for relocation to the upgraded IGISOL facility. Numerous atomic mass and decay energy measurements have been performed using the time-of-flight ion-cyclotron resonance technique. The trap has also been used in several decay spectroscopy expe…
Fabry-Pérot Interferometer : construction, calibration and developement
2015
The work presented in this thesis concentrates on the construction and development of a Fabry-Perot Interferometer (FPI). Resonance ionization spectroscopy (RIS) is a powerful technique for the extraction of nuclear structure, namely nuclear spins, moments and changes in mean-square charge radii. However, due to the pulsed nature of the laser, the technique may be limited by the laser linewidth to low resolution spectroscopy. This thesis presents the construction and characterization of a Fabry-Perot Interferometer in order to measure the laser linewidth and to calibrate the wavelength of a pulsed Ti:Sapphire laser in "Narrowband" mode (<1 GHz). The FPI has been directly utilized in the mea…
Real-time Fluorescence Measurement of Enterovirus Uncoating
2019
Viruses need to open, i.e., uncoat, in order to release their genomes for efficient replication and translation. Especially for non-enveloped viruses, such as enteroviruses, the cues leading to uncoating are less well known. The status of the virus has previously been observed mainly by transmission electron microscopy using negative staining, cryo electron microscopy, X-ray crystallography or gradient separation (reviewed in Tuthill et al., 2010, Myllynen et al., 2016, Ruokolainen et al., 2019). However, monitoring of uncoating has been limited by the lack of methods detecting dynamic changes of the virions. Here, we present a real-time fluorescence based protocol, which detects the viral …
Mikroaaltoplasmageneraattorin happi- ja typpiplasmojen valoemissio näkyvän valon aallonpituusalueella
2016
Happi…
Characterization of pre-treatments on wood chips prior to delignification by near infrared spectroscopy
2017
A near infrared (NIR) spectroscopy-based method for predicting yields and lignin contents of differently pre-treated silver/white birch (Betula pendula/B. pubescens) and Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris) chips was developed. The approach was to create multivariate calibration models from the NIR data by the partial least squares (PLS) method. Both parameters are important factors when adjusting adequate conditions for pre-treatments either with hot-water (HW) as such and slightly acidified HW (collectively referred to as autohydrolysis) or dilute alkaline aqueous solutions prior to alkaline pulping. Pre-treatment conditions were varied with respect to temperature (130 °C and 150 °C) and treatme…
Raman spectroscopy and crystal-field split rotational states of photoproducts CO and H2 after dissociation of formaldehyde in solid argon
2012
Raman signal is monitored after 248 nm photodissociation of formaldehyde in solid Ar at temperatures of 9–30 K. Rotational transitions J = 2 ← 0 for para-H2 fragments and J = 3 ← 1 for ortho-H2 are observed as sharp peaks at 347.2 cm−1 and 578.3 cm−1, respectively, which both are accompanied by a broader shoulder band that shows a split structure. The rovibrational spectrum of CO fragments has transitions at 2136.5 cm−1, 2138.3 cm−1, 2139.9 cm−1, and 2149 cm−1. To explain the observations, we performed adiabatic rotational potential calculations to simulate the Raman spectrum. The simulations indicate that the splitting of rotational transitions is a site effect, where H2 molecules can resi…
Gamma-ray spectroscopy of191,193Bi
2001
Very neutron-deficient Bi-191,Bi-193 nuclei have been studied at the Department of Physics, University of Jyvaskyla, Finland (JYFL) employing the Jurosphere II Ge-detector array coupled to the gas-filled recoil separator RITU and different tagging techniques. For the first time in heavy odd-mass nuclei, a collective band (oblate) is identified above the 2p-1h (1/2(+)) proton intruder state in Bi-191. In both Bi-191,Bi-193, a band based on isomeric 13/2(+) state has been observed and oblate deformation for this state has been deduced. ispartof: Acta Physica Polonica B vol:32 issue:3 pages:1019-1023 ispartof: location:POLAND, ZAKOPANE status: published
