Photo-switching spin pairs—synergy between LIESST effect and magnetic interaction in an iron(ii) binuclear spin-crossover compound

2001

The decrease of the magnetic response under irradiation at very low temperature was interpreted as a new evidence of synergy between magnetic interaction and spin transition in an iron(II) binuclear SC compound. Real Cabezos, Jose Antonio, Jose.A.Real@uv.es

Magneto-structural correlations in self-assembled spin-transition nano-architectures of the [][2×2]-grid-type

2004

Abstract The magnetism of a series of tetranuclear complexes of the [ Fe II 4 L 4 ]( BF 4 ) 8 [2×2] -grid-type was investigated, revealing the occurrence of spin-transition (ST) behavior within this class of compounds. The phenomenon depends directly on the nature of the substituent R1 of the ligand L . All FeII ions in compounds with R1 substituents favoring strong ligand fields ( R 1 = H ; OH ) remain completely in the diamagnetic low-spin state. Only the complex bearing R1=Ph exhibits thermally induced ST behavior.

X-ray powder diffraction and LIESST-effect of the spin transition material [Fe(bpp)2](NCS)2·2H2O

2006

Abstract We have studied the X-ray powder diffraction of the spin transition material [Fe(bpp)2](NCS)2 · 2H2O (bpp: 2,6-bis(pyrazol-3-yl)pyridine) at room temperature. Two crystallographic phases have been observed depending on the sample history of this material. The results obtained corroborate the earlier observations from magnetic and calorimetric studies. Relatively prolonged exposure of the sample to X-rays caused a structural change. LIESST and Reverse-LIESST effects, characterised by 57Fe Mossbauer spectroscopy, have been observed in this material.

Enhancement of guest-responsivity by mesocrystallization of porous coordination polymers

2017

Mesocrystals of a porous coordination polymer {Fe(pz)[Pt(CN)4]} (1) showing spin transition were prepared by the reverse micelle method, and the size-controlled mesocrystal 1 kept its porous property and magnetic bistability and exhibited higher guest-responsivity with switching the spin state in both solid and aqueous suspension states than the bulk 1.

Design of Bistable Gold@Spin‐Crossover Core–Shell Nanoparticles Showing Large Electrical Responses for the Spin Switching

2019

<p>A simple protocol to prepare core-shell gold@spin-crossover (Au@SCO) nanoparticles (NPs) based on the 1D spin-crossover [Fe(Htrz)2(trz)](BF4) coordination polymer is reported. The synthesis relies on a two-step approach consisting on a partial surface ligand substitution of the citrate-stabilized Au NPs followed by the controlled growth of a very thin layer of the SCO polymer. As a result, colloidally stable core@shell spherical NPs of 19 nm in size exhibiting a narrow distribution in sizes have been obtained, revealing a switchable SCOshell of <i>ca.</i>4 nm. Temperature-dependent charge transport measurements of an electri…

Guest induced reversible on–off switching of elastic frustration in a 3D spin crossover coordination polymer with room temperature hysteretic behavio…

2021

A binary reversible switch between low-temperature multi-step spin crossover (SCO), through the evolution of the population γHS(T) with high-spin (HS)-low-spin (LS) sequence: HS1LS0 (state 1) ↔ HS2/3LS1/3 (state 2) ↔ HS1/2LS1/2 (state 3) ↔ HS1/3LS2/3 (state 4) ↔ HS0LS1 (state 5), and complete one step hysteretic spin transition featuring 20 K wide thermal hysteresis centred at 290 K occurs in the three-dimensional (3D) Hofmann-type porous coordination polymer {FeII(3,8phen)[Au(CN)2]2}·xPhNO2 (3,8phen = 3,8-phenanthroline, PhNO2 = nitrobenzene), made up of two identical interpenetrated pcu-type frameworks. The included PhNO2 guest (x = 1, 1·PhNO2) acts as a molecular wedge between the interp…

Solvent-induced high-spin transition in double-decker 3d–4f metallacrowns

2019

Element-specific magnetic spin and orbital magnetic moments of $3d\text{\ensuremath{-}}4f$ double-decker metallacrown molecules have been investigated using x-ray magnetic circular dichroism. The double-decker metallacrowns comprise one rare-earth Gd(III) or Tb(III) ion embedded between two squared scaffolds of four Ni(II) ions. We observe a strong increase of the Ni(II) moments if the molecules are dissolved in methanol, indicating a spin crossover from a low-spin to a high-spin state. In contrast, dichloromethane does not change the spin state. This result is explained by a change of the coordination environment of nickel. The comparison of charge-transfer multiplet calculations with the …

Guest Effect on Nanopatterned Spin-Crossover Thin Films

2011

International audience; Nanopatterned thin films of the metal–organic framework {Fe(bpac)[Pt(CN)4]} (bpac=bis(4‐pyridyl)acetylene) are elaborated by the combination of a sequential assembly process and a lithographic method. Raman microspectroscopy is used to probe the temperature dependence of the spin state of the iron(II) ions in the films (40–90 nm in thickness), and reveals an incomplete but cooperative spin transition comparable to that of the bulk material. Adsorption/desorption of pyridine guest molecules is found to have a substantial influence on the spin‐crossover properties of the thin layers. This interplay between host–guest and spin‐crossover properties in thin films and nano…

Anomalous Spin Transition Observed in Bis(2,6-bis(pyrazol-3-yl)pyridine)iron(II) Thiocyanate Dihydrate

2003

Bis(2,6-bis(pyrazol-3-yl)pyridine)iron(II) thiocyanate dihydrate undergoes a two-step singlet (1A1) ⇄ quintet (5T2) transition in which both steps are associated with thermal hysteresis. Thermal cycling of the sample results in its conversion to a second phase which displays a single-step transition with a very narrow hysteresis loop. This second phase slowly reverts to the initial phase on standing at 300 K. The interconversions are completely reversible. The spin state changes have been monitored by measurement of magnetism and Mossbauer spectra and by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) studies.

Reversible Chemisorption of Sulfur Dioxide in a Spin Crossover Porous Coordination Polymer

2013

The chemisorption of sulfur dioxide (SO2) on the Hofmann-like spin crossover porous coordination polymer (SCO-PCP) {Fe(pz)[Pt(CN)4]} has been investigated at room temperature. Thermal analysis and adsorption-desorption isotherms showed that ca. 1 mol of SO2 per mol of {Fe(pz)[Pt(CN)4]} was retained in the pores. Nevertheless, the SO2 was loosely attached to the walls of the host network and completely released in 24 h at 298 K. Single crystals of {Fe(pz)[Pt(CN)4]}·nSO2 (n ≈ 0.25) were grown in water solutions saturated with SO2, and its crystal structure was analyzed at 120 K. The SO2 molecule is coordinated to the Pt(II) ion through the sulfur atom ion, Pt-S = 2.585(4) Å. This coordination…
