Comparison of impact characteristics of different ice hockey arena dasher boards

During last years the incidence and severity of ice hockey related concussions have been increased and, hence, something should be done to stop this growth. The main aim of this study was to find out how dasher board materials and structures affect impact characteristics and, thereby, the risk of concussions. The measurements were divided into two parts; in the first part, the physiological characteristics of body checks were determined in real game measurements, and the second part, consisted of simulation of body checks in the laboratory. Lost in translation : implementing personal assistance in an East Asian context

Since 2012, Taiwanese citizens with disabilities have been entitled to personal assistance from local authorities. To explore current features of personal assistance and barriers to its implementation, and distinguish it from homecare services, 33 disabled people and 12 staff members representing 10 local authorities in Taiwan were interviewed. Findings indicate that disabled people prefer personal assistance to homecare and perceive that relationships with their families have improved since the availability of personal assistance. Entre les majors amenaces de l'apicultura contemporània es troba el parasitisme de Varroa destructor, Anderson & Trueman (Acari: Varroidae). Aquest àcar ectoparàsit altament especialitzat s'alimenta directament de les pupes i els adults de l'abella mel·lífera europea, Apis mellifera L. (Hymenoptera: Apidae), la qual cosa debilita greument a les abelles i les indueix una immunosupressió que desemboca en brots d'infeccions preexistents o vectorizades pels àcars que comprometen la viabilitat de les colònies.
