Incomplete 3D motion trajectory segmentation and 2D-to-3D label transfer for dynamic scene analysis
2017
International audience; The knowledge of the static scene parts and the moving objects in a dynamic scene plays a vital role for scene modelling, understanding, and landmark-based robot navigation. The key information for these tasks lies on semantic labels of the scene parts and the motion trajectories of the dynamic objects. In this work, we propose a method that segments the 3D feature trajectories based on their motion behaviours, and assigns them semantic labels using 2D-to-3D label transfer. These feature trajectories are constructed by using the proposed trajectory recovery algorithm which takes the loss of feature tracking into account. We introduce a complete framework for static-m…
Pre-service Primary Teachers' Scientific Knowledge and Attitudes towards Science Learning and Their Influence on the Understanding of the Nature of S…
2016
The present study focused on the knowledge about the nature of science and the question of the extent to which this knowledge could be explained by employing scientific knowledge, as well as attitudes towards science learning. We obtained data from 171 Spanish pre-service primary school teachers on their knowledge about: a) science concepts, b) science process skills, c) the nature of science (that was split into science construction and validation and the role and function of scientific models), and d) their attitudes towards science learning. Quantitative and qualitative analyses provided interesting results: a) there were significant correlations between any pair of scores of conceptual …
Influence Of The Electrical Parameters On The Fabrication Of Copper Nanowires Into Anodic Alumina Templates
2009
Abstract Metallic copper nanowires have been grown into the pores of alumina membranes by electrodeposition from an aqueous solution containing CuSO 4 . and H 3 BO 3 at pH 3. In order to study the influence of the electrical parameters on growth and structure of nanowires, different deposition potentials (both in the region where hydrogen evolution reaction is allowed or not) and voltage perturbation modes (constant potential or unipolar pulsed depositions) were applied. In all cases, pure polycrystalline Cu nanowires were fabricated into template pores, having lengths increasing with the total deposition time. These nanowires were self-standing, because they retain their vertical orientati…
Who Wants to Be Understood? The Desire for Social Affirmation and the Existential Challenge of Self-Understanding
2019
The guiding thesis of this chapter is that self-understanding is centrally an existential challenge. In particular, the chapter aims to lay bare the massive potential of our desire for social affirmation to influence and distort our self-understanding, mostly in a covert and unacknowledged fashion. To the extent that we are driven by this desire, we are primarily concerned with assessing, in an emotionally charged and self-deceptive manner, the social worth of our self, whereas we lack the will and ability to understand ourselves in an open and unqualified manner. Ultimately, it is argued that whatever the cognitive demands of self-understanding and our ability to meet these demands may be,…
Public communication of emerging sciences and technologies. Problems and challenges in the case of nanotechnology
2014
This work deals with public understanding of nanoscience and nanotechnology. Concerns about public attitudes towards both, including a lack of knowledge on the part of the general public, have lead scholars in a number of countries to conduct early studies on the social perceptions of these fields. However, this has not been the case in Spain or Latin America, where studies on the popularisation and public understanding of nanotechnology are almost non-existent. This work has a double aim. First, it seeks to contextualise and explain the Spanish situation in this regard. Second, it aims to communicate the results of a Delphi study involving nanotechnology experts (n=38) and designed to fill…
Abstract: Through the ana…
La portada de la iglesia de las Escuelas Pías de Gandía. Su proceso constructivo y modulación arquitectónico-musical
2020
The facade of the church of the Pious Schools of Gandia has not attracted the attention of researchers. However, its conception has a great architectural culture and constitutes an essential work to understand its context, fundamentally, that of the theoretical treatises of the Renaissance. From this study it is wanted to value its architecture and that it is considered as an outstanding ingredient to know its period of construction in general and jesuit architecture in particular. For its understanding, its interpretation in the culture of contemporary architecture treaties and, especially, in the architectural-musical theory of Leon Battista Alberti will be necessary.. Compréhension de scènes urbaines basées sur la polarisation
2021
Humans possess an innate ability to interpret scenes under any condition. Computer Vision tends to mimic these capabilities by implementing intelligent algorithms to address complex understanding problems. In this regard, we are interested in understanding outdoor urban scenes in various weather conditions. This thesis specifically addresses the problems arising from the presence of specularity in the scenes. To this end, we aim to take advantage of polarization indices to define such surfaces in addition to traditional objects. In terms of understanding, we aim to introduce polarization to the fields of computer vision and deep learning. This thesis focuses on the following underlying challeng…

GAIML: A New Language for Verbal and Graphical Interaction in Chatbots
2008
Natural and intuitive interaction between users and complex systems is a crucial research topic in human-computer interaction. A major direction is the definition and implementation of systems with natural language understanding capabilities. The interaction in natural language is often performed by means of systems called chatbots. A chatbot is a conversational agent with a proper knowledge base able to interact with users. Chatbots appearance can be very sophisticated with 3D avatars and speech processing modules. However the interaction between the system and the user is only performed through textual areas for inputs and replies. An interaction able to add to natural language also graph…
