Rich dynamics and anticontrol of extinction in a prey-predator system

2019

This paper reveals some new and rich dynamics of a two-dimensional prey-predator system and to anticontrol the extinction of one of the species. For a particular value of the bifurcation parameter, one of the system variable dynamics is going to extinct, while another remains chaotic. To prevent the extinction, a simple anticontrol algorithm is applied so that the system orbits can escape from the vanishing trap. As the bifurcation parameter increases, the system presents quasiperiodic, stable, chaotic and also hyperchaotic orbits. Some of the chaotic attractors are Kaplan-Yorke type, in the sense that the sum of its Lyapunov exponents is positive. Also, atypically for undriven discrete sys…

N* resonances in the ππNsystem

2010

We have solved the Faddeev equations for the ππN system and coupled channels resulting into the dynamical generation of two N* , N* (1710) and N* (2100), and one ∆ states, ∆ (1910), all of them with J P = 1/2+ . In addition, signatures for a new N* resonance with JP = 1/2+ are found around at an energy of 1920 MeV.

Diluted Heisenberg Ferromagnets with Competing Ferro- and Antiferromagnetic Interactions: Evidence for a New Universality Class?

1993

The site-diluted classical face-centered cubic (fee) Heisenberg model with exchange between nearest and (J nn > 0) next nearest (J nnn =-J nn /2) neighbors is studied by Monte Carlo simulations using the heatbath algorithm in conjunction with histogram reweighting techniques. Finite size scaling analysis suggests that the diluted system crosses over to a new type of critical behavior, different from that of the pure system, in contrast to the prediction of the Harris criterion. But this model possibly can explain related experimental findings in Eu x Sr 1-x S.

Morphology of the galaxy distribution from wavelet denoising

2005

We have developed a method based on wavelets to obtain the true underlying smooth density from a point distribution. The goal has been to reconstruct the density field in an optimal way ensuring that the morphology of the reconstructed field reflects the true underlying morphology of the point field which, as the galaxy distribution, has a genuinely multiscale structure, with near-singular behavior on sheets, filaments and hotspots. If the discrete distributions are smoothed using Gaussian filters, the morphological properties tend to be closer to those expected for a Gaussian field. The use of wavelet denoising provide us with a unique and more accurate morphological description.

Renormalization group approach to chaotic strings

2012

Coupled map lattices of weakly coupled Chebychev maps, so-called chaotic strings, may have a profound physical meaning in terms of dynamical models of vacuum fluctuations in stochastically quantized field theories. Here we present analytic results for the invariant density of chaotic strings, as well as for the coupling parameter dependence of given observables of the chaotic string such as the vacuum expectation value. A highly nontrivial and selfsimilar parameter dependence is found, produced by perturbative and nonperturbative effects, for which we develop a mathematical description in terms of suitable scaling functions. Our analytic results are in good agreement with numerical simulati…

Second generation Car-Parrinello molecular dynamics

2014

Computer simulation methods, such as Monte Carlo or molecular dynamics, are very powerful theoretical techniques to provide detailed and essentially exact informations on rather complex classical many-body problems. With the advent of ab initio molecular dynamics (AIMD), where finite-temperature dynamical trajectories are generated using interatomic forces which are calculated on the fly using accurate electronic structure calculations, the scope of computational research has been greatly extended. This review is intended to outline the basic principles as well as being a survey of the field. Beginning with the derivation of Born–Oppenheimer molecular dynamics, the Car–Parrinello method and…

Monte Carlo Study of Diffusion Noise Reduction in GaAs Operating under Periodic Conditions

2009

The effects of an external correlated source of noise on the intrinsic carrier noise in a low‐doped GaAs bulk, operating under periodic conditions, are investigated. Numerical results confirm that the dynamical response of electrons driven by a high‐frequency periodic electric field receives a benefit by the constructive interplay between the fluctuating field and the intrinsic noise of the system. In particular, in this contribute we show a nonmonotonic behavior of the integrated spectral density, which value critically depends on the correlation time of the external noise source.

A two-dimensional hydrodynamic code for astrophysical flows

1990

We present a two-dimensional hydrodynamic code suited to study astrophysical flows in many different environments. The code solves the hydrodynamic equations in conservative form in the most used coordinate systems and is based on an explicitfully two-dimensional flux corrected transport (FCT) technique, which ensures an accurate description of steep gradient regions and shocks, a relatively ample flexibility to include a variety of physical effects, and a good efficiency for speed on vector or array processors. Extensive testing has allowed an accurate «tuning» of the FCT numerical parameters. This code is among the best FCT codes and performs well in a whole set of demanding strongly nonl…

Dynamics of a FitzHugh-Nagumo system subjected to autocorrelated noise

2008

We analyze the dynamics of the FitzHugh-Nagumo (FHN) model in the presence of colored noise and a periodic signal. Two cases are considered: (i) the dynamics of the membrane potential is affected by the noise, (ii) the slow dynamics of the recovery variable is subject to noise. We investigate the role of the colored noise on the neuron dynamics by the mean response time (MRT) of the neuron. We find meaningful modifications of the resonant activation (RA) and noise enhanced stability (NES) phenomena due to the correlation time of the noise. For strongly correlated noise we observe suppression of NES effect and persistence of RA phenomenon, with an efficiency enhancement of the neuronal respo…
