Nonmalleable encryption of quantum information
2008
We introduce the notion of "non-malleability" of a quantum state encryption scheme (in dimension d): in addition to the requirement that an adversary cannot learn information about the state, here we demand that no controlled modification of the encrypted state can be effected. We show that such a scheme is equivalent to a "unitary 2-design" [Dankert et al.], as opposed to normal encryption which is a unitary 1-design. Our other main results include a new proof of the lower bound of (d^2-1)^2+1 on the number of unitaries in a 2-design [Gross et al.], which lends itself to a generalization to approximate 2-design. Furthermore, while in prime power dimension there is a unitary 2-design with =…
QUANTITATIVE CONVERGENCE RATES FOR SUBGEOMETRIC MARKOV CHAINS
2015
We provide explicit expressions for the constants involved in the characterisation of ergodicity of subgeometric Markov chains. The constants are determined in terms of those appearing in the assumed drift and one-step minorisation conditions. The results are fundamental for the study of some algorithms where uniform bounds for these constants are needed for a family of Markov kernels. Our results accommodate also some classes of inhomogeneous chains.
Trend Analysis Using Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) for Non-stationary NDVI Time Series in Tunisia
2021
In this paper, the trends in non-stationary Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) Time Series (TS) over different areas in Tunisia are analyzed by applying wavelet transform and statistical tests. In the first step, the Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) was applied on three different time series in order to detect changes. Therefore, the different parameters of DWT were tested. In fact, the level of decomposition was calculated. The Maximum Energy to Shannon Entropy Ratio Criterion (MEER) was then investigated to choose the more suitable mother wavelet. Finally, the Mann-Kendall test (MK) was calculated for the last approximation of components to identify the variation in trend. In f…
A Metric for Automatic Word categorization
2008
This paper presents a metric to be used by the working prototype WIH (Web Intelligent Handler). This metric (referred here as po) is designed to reflect main topic words and discriminate certain text profiles through word weightings. The actual version is designed only for Spanish web texts. Statistical analyses show that it is possible to differentiate text profiles upon po behavior. A poll is presented also, showing that it is a good main words discriminator. This paper is posted here as a new algorithm useful for Spanish text processing.
Use of Supercomputing towards the Generation of a Process Execution Plan in Distributed Real-Time Systems
2010
This work consider the scheduling of periodic tasks or processes with real-time constraints in a distributed environment. Each task must be executed meeting deadlines, precedence relationships and resources constraints. The problem of scheduling tasks on a distributed environment can be viewed as a problem of assigning processes to the processors but keeping the schedulability in local environments. Thus, the problem can be divided in two phases: the first phase is assigning processes to processors and the second is to schedule assigned processes in each processor in the distributed environment. This paper focuses in the first phase. It introduces a heuristic mechanism for assigning process…
Diode-pumped self-Q-switched erbium-doped all-fibre laser
2004
A diode-pumped self-Q-switched erbium-doped fibre laser is developed and studied. The laser has an all-fibre configuration containing a piece of an active heavily erbium-doped fibre and two fibre Bragg grating mirrors and does not require any additional intracavity elements to obtain short pulses. Analysis of the laser operation suggests that the most probable mechanism of passive Q-switching of the laser cavity is absorption from the excited state of erbium resulting in the thermally induced nonlinear change in the refractive index in the erbium-doped fibre.
Monte Carlo Simulation of a Modified Chi Distribution with Unequal Variances in the Generating Gaussians. A Discrete Methodology to Study Collective …
2020
The Chi distribution is a continuous probability distribution of a random variable obtained from the positive square root of the sum of k squared variables, each coming from a standard Normal distribution (mean = 0 and variance = 1). The variable k indicates the degrees of freedom. The usual expression for the Chi distribution can be generalised to include a parameter which is the variance (which can take any value) of the generating Gaussians. For instance, for k = 3, we have the case of the Maxwell-Boltzmann (MB) distribution of the particle velocities in the Ideal Gas model of Physics. In this work, we analyse the case of unequal variances in the generating Gaussians whose distribution w…
An empirically grounded agent based model for modeling directs, conflict detection and resolution operations in air traffic management
2017
We present an agent based model of the Air Traffic Management socio-technical complex system that aims at modeling the interactions between aircrafts and air traffic controllers at a tactical level. The core of the model is given by the conflict detection and resolution module and by the directs module. Directs are flight shortcuts that are given by air controllers to speed up the passage of an aircraft within a certain airspace and therefore to facilitate airline operations. Conflicts resolution between flight trajectories can arise during the en-route phase of each flight due to both not detailed flight trajectory planning or unforeseen events that perturb the planned flight plan. Our mod…
Monte Carlo simulation of many-arm star polymers in two-dimensional good solvents in the bulk and at a surface
1991
A Monte Carlo technique is proposed for the simulation of statistical properties of many-arm star polymers on lattices. In this vectorizing algorithm, the length of each arml is increased by one, step by step, from a starting configuration withl=1 orl=2 which is generated directly. This procedure is carried out for a large sample (e.g., 100,000 configurations). As an application, we have studied self-avoiding stars on the square lattice with arm lengths up tol max=125 and up tof=20 arms, both in the bulk and in the geometry where the center of the star is adsorbed on a repulsive surface. The total number of configurations, which behaves asN∼l γ G–1μ fl , whereμ=2.6386 is the usual effective…
Proposition d'un dispositif sécurisé de suivi statistique de la diversité dans les entreprises signataires de la Charte de la diversité
2015
It appears to be quite difficult to verify compliance of non-discrimination and diversity promotion priniciplesin the enterprises, in terms of recruitment, career management and job stability. Beyond the methodologicalconcerns, it seems indeed particularly sensitive to give full account of these phenomenum on all aspects ofcareer paths and for each enterprise signatory of the French Charter of Diversity. This paper will outline someengineering items in statistics in order to try to address these issues with statistical matching techniques. It will also put into perspective the evolution of the statistical matching techniques perception in connectionwith the law project for a digital Republic
