Evaluation of Franz Marc’s Color Theory using Implicit Testing Procedures

2018

In the early 20th century, the German expressionist painter Franz Marc formulated assumptions concerning the meanings of color, based on his individual sensations. He characterized the ‘cool’ blue as the ‘masculine principle’. Yellow represented the ‘feminine principle’ which he declared as ‘gentle, cheerful, and sensual’. This leaves red, the color he perceived as ‘brutal and heavy’. Here, we tested some of the color–meaning associations assumed by Franz Marc via implicit measures based on response times, using Single Category Implicit Association Tests. The participants had to classify words as belonging to one of two semantic categories (e.g., masculine or feminine) by pressing one of tw…

La palliazione endoscopica dell’ittero ostruttivo da carcinoma inoperabile del pancreas. Nostra esperienza

2005

Aim of the study: Few patients with pancreatic cancer are eligible for resection. In the remainder; estimation of prognosis is important to optimise various aspects of care, including palliation of biliary obstruction and trial of chemotherapy. The aim is to refer our personal experience about the palliation with endoscopic stenting in patients with unresectable pancreatic cancer. Methods: The Authors reviewed retrospectively 132 patients affected by unresectable pancreatic cancer who underwent palliative interventions with endoscopic stenting from 2000 to 2004. Results: Jaundice dramatically decreased in 86% of patients within 36 hours, in 12% within 48 hours and in 2% after two days. As c…

Dissolution of resin acids, retene and wood sterols from contaminated lake sediments.

2005

The dissolution potency of hydrophobic resin acids (RAs), retene and wood sterols from sediments was studied. These wood extractives and their metabolites are sorbed from pulp and paper mill effluents to downstream sediments. With harmful components like these, sediments can pose a hazard to the aquatic environment. Therefore, sediment elutriates with water were produced under variable conditions (agitation rate and efficiency, time), and concentrations of the dissoluted compounds were analyzed. Both naturally contaminated field sediments and artificially spiked sediments were studied. By vigorous agitation RAs can be released fast from the sediment matrix and equilibrium reached within 3 d…

Reoperation for persistent or recurrent secondary hyperparathyroidism. Surgical treatment of renal hyperparathyroidism

2017

Background: Secondary hyperparathyroidism is a common acquired disorder seen in chronic renal failure. Its pathophysiology is mainly due to hyperphosphatemia and vitamin D deficiency and resistance. When medical treatment fails, subtotal and total parathyroidectomy with autotransplantation are the standard procedures, although both are associated with high recurrence rates. Methods and Results: 4 patients experienced persistence and 9 relapse. The first 4 were subjected to reoperation after 6 months for the persistence of symptoms due to the finding of a supernumerary adenomatous gland while the remaining patients at the reoperation showed in 5 cases 2 more glands in over thymic position, a…

Large Number Asymptotics for Two-Component Systems with Self-Consistent Coupling

2014

We shall consider the large number asymptotics of particle models for partial differential equations describing two component mixtures with simplest kind of self-consistent couplings. We shall recall in particular two examples related to different classes of models, the first one having both particle-like components and the second one having only one particle-like component (the other being described as a fluid); for these examples, different techniques on the probabilistic and analytic point of view are to be used to rigorously prove the convergence to a limit of the self-consistent terms in a “mean-field”-like asymptotics. The two models were analysed resp. in Bernardin and Ricci (Kinet R…

ARIA 2016: Care pathways implementing emerging technologies for predictive medicine in rhinitis and asthma across the life cycle

2016

The Allergic Rhinitis and its Impact on Asthma (ARIA) initiative commenced during a World Health Organization workshop in 1999. The initial goals were (1) to propose a new allergic rhinitis classification, (2) to promote the concept of multi-morbidity in asthma and rhinitis and (3) to develop guidelines with all stakeholders that could be used globally for all countries and populations. ARIA-disseminated and implemented in over 70 countries globally-is now focusing on the implementation of emerging technologies for individualized and predictive medicine. MASK [MACVIA (Contre les Maladies Chroniques pour un Vieillissement Actif)-ARIA Sentinel NetworK] uses mobile technology to develop care p…

Clinical use of intracoronary imaging. Part 1: guidance and optimization of coronary interventions. An expert consensus document of the European Asso…

2018

This Consensus Document is the first of two reports summarizing the views of an expert panel organized by the European Association of Percutaneous Cardiovascular Interventions (EAPCI) on the clinical use of intracoronary imaging including intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) and optical coherence tomography (OCT). The first document appraises the role of intracoronary imaging to guide percutaneous coronary interventions (PCIs) in clinical practice. Current evidence regarding the impact of intracoronary imaging guidance on cardiovascular outcomes is summarized, and patients or lesions most likely to derive clinical benefit from an imaging-guided intervention are identified. The relevance of the u…

Koronāro bifurkāciju perkutānās ārstēšanas stratēģijas ietekme uz intrahospitālajiem notikumiem

2022

Ievads.
