New organotin(IV) complexes with L-Arginine,Nα-t-Boc-L-Arginine and L-Alanyl-L-Arginine.Synthesis, structural investigations and cytotoxic activity
2010
Abstract Novel diorganotin(IV) derivatives of l -Arginine (HArg), N α -( tert -Butoxycarbonyl)- l -Arginine (Boc–Arg–OH) and l -Ala- l -Arg (H 2 Ala–Arg), H 2 NC( NH)NH(CH 2 ) 3 CH(NHR′)CO 2 H, where R′ = H in HArg, R′ = C(O)OC(CH 3 ) 3 in Boc–Arg–OH, R′ = H 2 NCH(CH 3 )CO in H 2 Ala–Arg and triorganotin(IV) derivatives of Boc–Arg–OH have been synthesized and structurally characterized. The complexes were investigated by FT-IR and 119 Sn Mossbauer in the solid state and by 1 H, 13 C, 119 Sn and 1 H– 1 H COSY NMR spectroscopy, in solution. The spectroscopic characterization leading to the proposed molecular structures was accomplished on the basis of these experiments. l -Arginine appears to…
Mononuclear and tetranuclear Fe(III) complexes with two different types of N, O donor Schiff base ligands
2013
Abstract A mononuclear Fe(III) complex of a tetradentate N 2 O 2 donor Schiff base ligand derived from 3-ethoxysalicaldehyde and ethylenediamine has been reported. In addition two tetranuclear Fe(III) complexes with discrete Fe 4 III (μ 4 -O) cores have been synthesized and characterized using two Schiff base ligands (H 2 L 1–2 ) derived from two different aromatic acid hydrazides and diacetyl monoxime. The mononuclear Fe(III) and one of the tetranuclear Fe(III) complexes have been structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray crystallography. The mononuclear complex has a highly distorted octahedral geometry. The tetranuclear Fe(III) complexes are found to be rare examples with discre…

2011
A new series of neutral oxamato-bridged M(II)Cu(II) chiral chains of general formula [MCuL(x)(S)(m)(H(2)O)(n)]·aS·bH(2)O [L(1)=(M)-1,1'-binaphthalene-2,2'-bis(oxamate) with M=Mn (1a) and Co (1b); L(2)=(P)-1,1'-binaphthalene-2,2'-bis(oxamate) with M=Mn (2a) and Co (2b)] and the analogous racemic chains of formula [MCuL(3)(S)(m)(H(2)O)(n)]·aS·bH(2)O [L(3)=1,1'-binaphthalene-2,2'-bis(oxamate) with M=Mn (3a) and Co (3b)] have been prepared by reaction of the corresponding dianionic oxamatocopper(II) complex [Cu(L(x))](2-) with Mn(2+) or Co(2+) cations in either dimethylformamide (DMF) or dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO). Solid circular dichroism (CD) spectra of the bimetallic chain compounds were reco…

2006
Two new series of neutral ox-amato-bridged heterobimetallic chains of general formula [MCu(L x ) 2 ]- m DMSO (m=0-4) (L 1 =N-2-methyl-phenyloxamate, M=Mn (1a) and Co (1 b); L2 = N-2,6-dimethylphenyloxamate, M=Mn (2a) and Co (2b); L 3 = N-2,4,6-trimethylphenyloxamate, M= Mn (3a) and Co (3b)) have been prepared by reaction between the corresponding anionic oxamatocopper(II) complexes [Cu(L x ) 2 ] 2- with Mn 2+ or Co 2+ cations in DMSO. The crystal structures of [CoCu(L 2 ) 2 (H 2 O) 2 ] (2b') and [CoCu(L 3 ) 2 (H 2 O) 2 ]·4H 2 O (3b') have been solved by single-crystal X-ray diffraction methods. Compounds 2b' and 3b' adopt zigzag and linear chain structures, respectively. The intrachain Cu··…
Cationic Mn12 Single-Molecule Magnets and Their Polyoxometalate Hybrid Salts
2003
A carboxy-substituted alkylammonium salt, namely, (4-carboxybenzyl)tributylammonium hexafluorophosphate, ZHPF(6), was prepared and used as incoming carboxylate ligand in a ligand-exchange reaction with [Mn(12)O(12)(O(2)CCH(3))(16)(H(2)O)(4)] (1) to afford a new Mn(12) single-molecule magnet (SMM), [Mn(12)O(12)(Z)(16)(H(2)O)(4)][PF(6)](16) (2), bearing 16 cationic units appended in the periphery. This compound behaves as a single-molecule magnet, exhibiting an out-of-phase ac magnetic susceptibility chi' '(M) signal that shows a single maximum in the 3.1-5.4 K temperature range. The frequency dependence of the maximum follows an Arrhenius law, with an effective energy barrier for reorientati…
Functionality transfer from C8 to C9 in sesquiterpenes. Synthesis of the named Herbolide E from artemisin.
1992
Abstract The key intermediate 6 was obtained in five steps from artemisin (1). The spectroscopic characteristics of the synthetic product 7a reveal that the proposed structure for the natural herbolide E must be revised.
Total Synthesis and Biological Investigation of (−)‐Artemisinin: The Antimalarial Activity of Artemisinin Is not Stereospecific
2018
Here, we describe an efficient and diversity-oriented entry to both (-)-artemisinin (1) and its natural antipode (+)-artemisinin, starting from commercially and readily available S-(+)- and R-(-)-citronellene, respectively. Subsequently, we answered the still open question regarding the specificity of artemisinins action. By using a drug-sensitive Plasmodium falciparum NF54 strain, we showed that the antimalarial activity of artemisinin is not stereospecific. Our straightforward and biomimetic approach to this natural endoperoxide enables the synthesis of artemisinin derivatives that are not accessible through applying current methods and may help to address the problem of emerging resistan…
Does endovascular treatment with curative intention have benefits for treating High-grade AVM versus radiosurgery? Efficacy, safety, and cost-effecti…
2021
BACKGROUND: The treatment of high-grade arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) remains challenging. Microsurgery provides a rapid and complete occlusion compared to other options, but is associated with undesirable morbidity and mortality. The aim of this study was to compare the occlusion rates, incidence of unfavorable outcomes, and cost-effectiveness of embolization and stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) as a curative treatment for high-grade AVMs.METHODS: A retrospective series of 57 consecutive patients with high-grade AVM treated with embolization or SRS, with the aim of achieving complete occlusion, was analyzed. Demographic, clinical, and angio-architectonic variables were collected. Both …
Problems of coding stereo images in human memory
2010
This paper discusses the memorization and recall by man of a sequence of planar or stereoscopic images, including six frames that contain a planar strip (8×8 positions of the stimulus) or a volume strip (8×4×2 positions). At the recall stage, the subject chose between the stimulus and three distractors in each frame. It is shown that the times for recognition and recall are less for volume stimuli, while the percent of correct responses is greater for planar stimuli. For volume stimuli, the distribution of errors depends on the disparity between the target and the selected distractor. A model based on a heteroassociative neural network reproduces the error distribution for planar but not fo…
