Mono and dinuclear copper(II) complexes of 2,4,6-tris(2-pyridyl)-1, 3,5-triazine and halide or pseudohalide ions: Synthesis and spectral studies

1986

By inhibiting the copper(II) assisted TPT (TPT = 2,4,6-tris(2-pyridyl)-1,3,5-triazine) hydrolysis, monomeric and dimeric copper(II) complexes having as general formulae Cu(TPT)X, · nH2O (X = Cl, Br, NCS, NCO or N3) and [Cu(TPT)X]2(PF6)2 · nH2O (X = Cl, Br, NCS or N3) have been synthesized and characterized by i.r., electronic and e.p.r. spectra, x-ray powder diffraction and analytical data. Spectroscopic results indicate five-coordinate geometry around the copper(II) ion, intermediate between trigonal-bipyramid and square-pyramid structures. The half-field absorption in the ΔMS = 2 region of powdered X-band e.p.r. spectra has been observed for the dimeric species.

On the Importance of Carbohydrate-Aromatic Interactions for the Molecular Recognition of Oligosaccharides by Proteins: NMR Studies of the Structure a…

2005

The specific interaction of a variety of modified hevein domains to chitooligosaccharides has been studied by NMR spectroscopy in order to assess the importance of aromatic-carbohydrate interactions for the molecular recognition of neutral sugars. These mutant AcAMP2-like peptides, which have 4-fluoro-phenylalanine, tryptophan, or 2-naphthylalanine at the key interacting positions, have been prepared by solid-phase synthesis. Their three-dimensional structures, when bound to the chitin-derived trisaccharide, have been deduced by NMR spectroscopy. By using DYANA and restrained molecular dynamics simulations with the AMBER 5.0 force field, the three-dimensional structures of the protein-sugar…

Diastereoselective formation of highly functionalised α-substituted amino acid derivatives via aldol addition

2005

Abstract Highly diastereoselective aldol additions of (2 R ,4 S )-3- tert -butyl 4-methyl 2- tert -butyloxazolidine-3,4-dicarboxylate ( 1 ) are reported. The utility of the highly substituted oxazolidines of type 1 for diastereoselective α-addition of the fully protected amino acid l -serine with achiral and chiral carbonyl compounds is demonstrated and the relative and absolute configuration of the aldol products are discussed on the basis of NOESY data and solid state structures of selected examples. The aldol products represent highly useful intermediates in the syntheses of sphingosine-related metabolites.

Substituent effects on axle binding in amide pseudorotaxanes: comparison of NMR titration and ITC data with DFT calculations

2012

The binding behaviour of differently substituted diamide axle molecules to Hunter/Vögtle tetralactam macrocycles was studied with a combination of NMR titration, isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC) experiments and calculations employing density functional theory (DFT), along with dispersion-corrected exchange-correlation functionals. Guests with alkyl or alkenyl chains attached to the diamide carbonyl groups have a significantly higher binding affinity to the macrocycle than guests with benzoyl amides and their substituted analogues. While the binding of the benzoyl and alkenyl substituted axles is enthalpically driven, the alkyl-substituted guest binds mainly because of a positive bindi…

New Triterpene Saponins fromAcanthophyllum pachystegium

2004

Four new triterpenoid saponins, pachystegiosides A (1), B (2), C (3), and D (4), were isolated from the roots of Acanthophyllum pachystegium K. H. Their structures were elucidated by means of a combination of homo- and heteronuclear 2D-NMR techniques (COSY, TOCSY, NOESY, HSQC, and HMBC) and by FAB-MS. The new compounds were characterized as 3-O-{O-β-D-galactopyranosyl-(12)-O-[β-D-xylopyranosyl-(13)]-β-D-glucuronopyranosyl}quillaic acid 28-{O-β-D-xylopyranosyl-(13)-O-β-D-xylopyranosyl-(14)-O-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(12)-O-[3,4-di-O-acetyl-β-D-quinovopyranosyl-(14)]-β-D-fucopyranosyl}ester (1), 3-O-{O-β-D-galactopyranosyl-(12)-O-[β-D-xylopyranosyl-(13)]-β-D-glucuronopyranosyl}quillaic acid 28-{O-…

Analogues of cytotoxic squamocin using reliable reactions: new insights into the reactivity and role of the α,β-unsaturated lactone of the annonaceou…

2006

Abstract A small library of squamocin analogues has been prepared and screened biologically (cytotoxicity, inhibition of mitochondrial complex I and complex III). To centre diversity on a crucial part of the molecule (i.e., the α,β-unsaturated lactone), an original and reliable lactone opening reaction has been discovered and exploited among other efficient reactions.

Conformational preferences of side-chain protected amino acid residues and their impact in peptide synthesis

1983

Using the host-guest technique, tentative scales for the helix-inducing power and the β-structure-forming potential of various side-chain protected amino acid residues in trifluoro-ethanol are established mainly by CD measurements. The generally lower tendency for β-structure formation of the host–guest peptides compared to that of the host peptide is discussed. The influence of these conformational features on the solubility of the peptides is also pointed out.
