The dynamic behavior of piezoelectric active repair bonded on cracked structures is analyzed in this article. The boundary element code used to perform the simulations is implemented in the framework of piezoelectricity in order to model the coupling between the elastic and the electric fields, which represents the most important feature of piezoelectric media. Mathematical modeling of vehicle frontal crash by a double spring-mass-damper model

This paper presents development of a mathematical model to represent the real vehicle frontal crash scenario. The vehicle is modeled by a double spring-mass-damper system. The front mass m1 represents the chassi of the vehicle and rear mass m2 represents the passenger compartment. The physical parameters of the model (Stiffness and dampers) are estimated using Nonlinear least square method (Levenberg-Marquart algorithm) by curve fitting the response of a double spring-mass-damper system to the experimental displacement data from the real vehicle crash. The model is validated by comparing the results from the model with the experimental results from real crash tests available.
COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF RIGID AND FLEXIBLE STRUCTURES OF THE ECCENTRIC PRESSES

Abstract The aim of this paper is to make a comparative study of the static behaviour of the eccentric presses, using the finite elements method, on the rigid structure and on the flexible structure, respectively. The finite elements modelling of the component elements of the presses are done in two ways: node by node link type (rigid structure) or using a linking element spring damper type (flexible structure). On these two structures there is successively applied a number of static analyses, in order to determine the strain of working area and the design of the stiffness graph.

This article presents a new approach to the vibration mitigation problem in structures subject to seismic motions. These kinds of structures are characterised by the uncertainties of the parameters that describe their dynamics, such as stiffness and damping coefficients. Moreover, the dampers used to mitigate the vibrations caused by earthquakes are usually nonlinear devices with frictional or hysteretic dynamics. This paper presents some properties of two restricted classes of multi-degree-of-freedom potential systems subjected to Gaussian white-noise excitations. Specifically, potential systems which exhibit damping terms with energy-dependent polynomial form are referred to. In this context, first systems with coupled stiffness terms and damping terms depending on the total energy are investigated. Then, systems with uncoupled stiffness terms and damping terms depending on the total energy in each degree-of-freedom are considered. On the Stiffness and the Reinforcement Effect of Electrical Resistance Strain Gauges

The reinforcement effect of a strain gauge installed on low modulus materials can be significant. The increasing use of low modulus materials requires therefore the evaluation of such effect. This paper concerns the relationship between the local reinforcement effect and the strain gauge stiffness. The conclusion is that the gauge stiffness alone does not allow the user a thorough evaluation of the reinforcement effect.
Compensation of compliance errors in parallel manipulators composed of non-perfect kinematic chains

The paper is devoted to the compliance errors compensation for parallel manipulators under external loading. Proposed approach is based on the non-linear stiffness modeling and reduces to a proper adjusting of a target trajectory. In contrast to previous works, in addition to compliance errors caused by machining forces, the problem of assembling errors caused by inaccuracy in the kinematic chains is considered. The advantages and practical significance of the proposed approach are illustrated by examples that deal with groove milling with Orthoglide manipulator.

The paper presents the compliance errors compensation technique for over-constrained parallel manipulators under external and internal loadings. This technique is based on the non-linear stiffness modeling which is able to take into account the influence of non-perfect geometry of serial chains caused by manufacturing errors. Fast MATLAB assembly of FEM matrices in 2D and 3D: Edge elements

We propose an effective and flexible way to assemble finite element stiffness and mass matrices in MATLAB. We apply this for problems discretized by edge finite elements. Typical edge finite elements are Raviart-Thomas elements used in discretizations of H(div) spaces and Nedelec elements in discretizations of H(curl) spaces. We explain vectorization ideas and comment on a freely available MATLAB code which is fast and scalable with respect to time.
