Design, synthesis and biological evaluation of novel stilbene-based antitumor agents

A series of novel stilbene derivatives has been synthesized and studied with the main goal to investigate SAR of the amino compound 1a, as well as to improve its water solubility, a potentially negative aspect of the molecule that could be a serious obstacle for a pre-clinical development. We have obtained derivatives with good cytotoxic activity, in particular, the derivatives 5c and 6b could represent two novel leads for further investigation. Compound 8b, a morpholino-carbamate derivative, prodrug of 1a, has a very good solubility in water, and is active in suppressing growth of tumor cells at a concentration of 5000 nM, which is a concentration 100 times higher than the parent stilbene …
Artemisia arborescens L.: essential oil composition and effects of plant growth stage in some genotypes from Sicily

Essential oils from aerial parts of several Artemisia arborescens L. populations, collected in five different localities of Sicily, were analyzed by gas chromatograph–flame ionization detector (GC–FID) and GC–mass spectrometry (GC–MS) in order to study the chemical composition and its variability due to phenological stage. Forty-three compounds, accounting for more than 92% of the oil, were identified. Monoterpene fraction with the exception of Petru population was higher than the sesquiterpene fraction. β-Thujone (20.5–55.9%), chamazulene (15.2–49.4%), camphor (1.3–10.7%) and germacrene D (2.3–3.4%) were the main compounds. ABSTRACT The aim of this research was to examine the relationships between transformational parenting, autonomy support displayed by mothers and fathers, and sport burnout in 360 junior soccer players (324 males, range age = 12-18 years). To this end, four steps were followed. Steps 1 and 2 tested the psychometric properties (i.e., factorial structure, internal consistency, and evidence of discriminant validity) of the Spanish version of the Transformational Parenting Questionnaire (TPQ), and steps 3 and 4 examined the proposed relationships.
