A search for new physics in dijet mass and angular distributions in pp collisions at [subscript √s=7] TeV measured with the ATLAS detector
2011
A search for new interactions and resonances produced in LHC proton–proton (pp) collisions at a centre-of-mass energy ps = 7 TeV was performed with the ATLAS detector. Using a dataset with an integrated luminosity of 36 pb−1, dijet mass and angular distributions were measured up to dijet masses of 3.5 TeV and were found to be in good agreement with Standard Model predictions. This analysis sets limits at 95% CL on various models for new physics: an excited quark is excluded for mass between 0.60 and 2.64 TeV, an axigluon hypothesis is excluded for axigluon masses between 0.60 and 2.10 TeV and quantum black holes are excluded in models with six extra space–time dimensions for quantum gravity…
String dynamics and metastability of fully-heavy tetraquarks
2017
Multiquark states have been advocated to explain recent experimental data in the heavy-light sector, and there are already speculations about multiquarks containing only heavy quarks and antiquarks. With a rigorous treatment of the four-body problem in current quark models, full-charm $(cc\bar c\bar c)$ and full-beauty $(bb\bar b\bar b)$ tetraquarks are found to be unbound. Thus their stability should rely on more subtle effects that are not included in the simple picture of constituent quarks. The case of $(bc\bar b\bar c)$ might be more favorable if the naive color-additive model of confinement is replaced by a string-inspired interaction.
Kl3form factor withNf= 2 +1 dynamical domain wall fermions
2008
We present the latest results from the UKQCD/RBC collaborations for the Kl3 form factor from simulations with 2 + 1 flavours of dynamical domain wall quarks. Simulations are performed on lattices with two different volumes and four values of the light quark mass, allowing for an extrapolation to the chiral limit. The analysis includes a thorough investigation into the sources of systematic error in our fits. After interpolating to zero momentum transfer, we obtain f+(0) = 0.964(5) (or ?f = -0.013(5)) which, when combined with the latest experimental results for Kl3 decays, leads to |Vus| = 0.2249(14).
Is the spectrum of highly excited mesons purely coulombian?
2008
We show that a static central potential may provide a precise description of highly excited light unflavoured mesons. Due to string breaking this potential becomes of chromoelectric type at sufficiently large quark-antiquark distances giving rise to a coulombian spectrum. The same conclusion can be inferred for any other meson sector through a straightforward extension of our analysis.

Toward an Automatic Determination of Enzymatic Reaction Mechanisms and Their Activation Free Energies.
2013
We present a combination of the string method and a path collective variable for the exploration of the free energy surface associated to a chemical reaction in condensed environments. The on-the-fly string method is employed to find the minimum free energy paths on a multidimensional free energy surface defined in terms of interatomic distances, which is a convenient selection to study bond forming/breaking processes. Once the paths have been determined, a reaction coordinate is defined as a measure of the advance of the system along these paths. This reaction coordinate can be then used to trace the reaction Potential of Mean Force from which the activation free energy can be obtained. Th…
Two new syntaxa are described to include plant communities growing on schistose rocks near Calatayud (Zarago…

Salivary properties involved in astringency sensitivity in human differ as a function of age
2022
Astringency is an important sensory characteristic of foods and beverages containing polyphenols. However, astringency perception in elderly people is not documented. Current hypothesis on astringency mechanism involved aggregation of the mucosal pellicle by tannins and its protective role by salivary proteins in particular proline rich-proteins (PRPs). The aim of the present work was to evaluate sensitivity to astringency in function of age and saliva (flow and composition). Fifty-four panelists including (30 elderlies and 24 young) participated in this study. Astringency was evaluated by 2-Alternative Forced Choice procedure. For salivary PRPs, a western blot methodology was set up to eva…
Lightweight BWT Construction for Very Large String Collections
2011
A modern DNA sequencing machine can generate a billion or more sequence fragments in a matter of days. The many uses of the BWT in compression and indexing are well known, but the computational demands of creating the BWT of datasets this large have prevented its applications from being widely explored in this context. We address this obstacle by presenting two algorithms capable of computing the BWT of very large string collections. The algorithms are lightweight in that the first needs O(m log m) bits of memory to process m strings and the memory requirements of the second are constant with respect to m. We evaluate our algorithms on collections of up to 1 billion strings and compare thei…
